Re: connection problem ?
how would i know if a trans proxy is in use here ?
|
Re: connection problem ?
The NTL proxies do use NTL dns .... JAN confirmed, but apparently it depends on the proxy being used.

Work pretty good for most too :)

Re: connection problem ?
i specify dns server as stated earlier and it seems to have improved but when i look in winipcfg the dns is still 194.168.4.100 which is the usual ntl, so i am confused or perhaps just misunderstanding.

Re: connection problem ?
try specifying a poxy in ie see if that works here could be the reliable poxy routing software
|
Re: connection problem ?
some things that are confusing me a bit:
when i check for proxy via nthell "whats my proxy" it says i am not using a proxy. when i specify a proxy in ie my browsing speed drops by a third. without a specified proxy i get the following result from robin walker speedtest: 1st 128K took 12313 ms = 10645 Bytes/sec = approx 89 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 12703 ms = 10318 Bytes/sec = approx 86 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 12047 ms = 10880 Bytes/sec = approx 91 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 12515 ms = 10473 Bytes/sec = approx 87 kbits/sec with proxy specified i get: 1st 128K took 7500 ms = 17476 Bytes/sec = approx 145 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 7203 ms = 18197 Bytes/sec = approx 151 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 8156 ms = 16071 Bytes/sec = approx 134 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 7391 ms = 17734 Bytes/sec = approx 148 kbits/sec I shall use the specified proxy for a day to see if it resolves the original problem. |
Re: connection problem ?
NTL have routing software to the proxies that allegedly balances the load. It has been known for this software to frequently fall over.:td:
I think its called wccp software. Obviously if you are getting better results by specifying a proxy please report this to NTL. Who will get the relevant dept looking at it eventually .:D |

TS are quite correct in this regard, WCCP balances cache loading. Think PEM meant it's not some proprietary piece of software that NTL have installed, it's part of Cisco IOS just like the standard routing protocols, etc |
Re: connection problem ?
It seems that specifying a proxy has resolved the problem (now i sussed the correct method re port 8080) so the swansea proxies are the problem.
Last time i called cable support re this they told me to delete temp internet files/re install os as the problem was with my system. Think i'll just stick with the cardiff proxy for now. |
