Re: Extension fault - callout charge?!?!
James, I am still not sure what is meant by unplugging the socket? Can you briefly describe how the sockets are connected to each other. You can check the master socket by removing the face plate and plugging a telephone directly into the socket inside the master socket. If all works well doing that then the problem lies in the other socket or the wiring to it.
I have seen houses where the NTL master socket has been placed near to the BT master socket and the two connected by various means to enable the use of extension sockets on the BT system. Is that what has been done in your house? |

Re: Extension fault - callout charge?!?!
Hi Guys,
I have had Sky digital for over 5 years now and I still occasionally see the modem light on my digibox light up every now and then. Prior to having Sky digital I installed an extension phone socket in each room of the house when the floorboards were up due to re-wiring. The socket for the digibox is right behind the TV so I have never unplugged it as I have no reason to, plus it keeps Sky happy I guess. When I installed the extension sockets we had an old style BT master socket (the sort where there isnââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t a removable lower plate) and I contacted BT to ask them if they would replace it free of charge. Bt said no problem and sent an engineer round the following week, but to my surprise he didnââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t connect the lead I had dropped down through the ceiling to the new socket, instead he wired it into the junction box where the black wire from outside comes in and terminates, so from there I have one cable up into the ceiling to my extension sockets and the other goes to the master socket. At the time I asked him was this ok and he said that it made no difference, each of my extension sockets had its own ringer and my wiring was better than some of BT's engineers, he wired directly from the junction box to make it look neater. He was the sort of engineer that treated customerââ‚à ƒ‚¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s homes like his own. Anyway just thought Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢d tell you guys that, with regards to the problem with the cracking line etc, sounds like a faulty connection and the number of sockets and the way they are wired is very confusing. All the best Dan |
Re: Extension fault - callout charge?!?!
Thanks for your input into the thread Dan, unfortunately it's nearly 12 months since the post prior to yours so I would hope that the problem is sorted now.....
