Re: NTL Green Box
Hey All,
I've noticed another green box needing attention in my area. The number is NO150 (I think, or it might have been NO159). Its door is open and it looks like someone tried to tape it closed with insulating tape. Its on Deanery Road in Stratford (E15) near to the junction with the Romford Road. Hope this helps, Phil. |
Re: NTL Green Box
Its a nightmare to get cabinets close to be honest. They get opened so frequently that the odd time the engineer does not close them properly (they are only human). Plus wee vandal aswell :(

Re: NTL Green Box
Sorry for being nosey, just curious, what is actually housed in these cabinets? I just know that it must be each invidual property's connection to the NTL network.

Re: NTL Green Box
now that would be telling :)

Re: NTL Green Box
There is a load of taps (what the coax screws into) with different power ratings.
Lowest tap = least power Highest tap = highest power. and there is also all connections for your telephone lines. |

Our inspection covers have hand prints moulded into the concrete covers, Hollywood style. We have had the 'Cable' removed from the embossed 'Diamond Cable' as this far better reflects the feel of the neighbourhood. The pavement trenches have been gilt inlaid, to match the original gold paving, and our UBR housing has a mock Gothic facade so as to be superficially indestiguishable from other fine emporia and edifices in the locality. |
Re: NTL Green Box
On the subject of vandalism of equipment - what's the policy regarding protecting wires with metal conduit? That might be a daft question :erm: Around here (Holbeck - LS11) the houses are all terraced and many are direct onto the street. Kids take pleasure in yanking at the cables attached to the fronts/sides of the houses. My broadband cable has lost 3 clips already - the phone and aerial cables have also suffered. I've noticed that on some houses the broadband/TV cables are liable to trip or garrote pedestrains :D At my old flat the engineers did install protective conduit, but not here - where it's needed most.

Re: NTL Green Box
might be a stupid question but....is there where the contention ratio of 15:1 comes from? as in 15 individual NTL installations to each green box or am i incorrect?
Mine are dark green here in Coventry. |
Re: NTL Green Box
All the Nynex networks (Wirral and Bromley) from what I seen used black cabs.
|
Re: NTL Green Box
i live in a former nynex area. and they are all Leaf green...the BT ones are olive green really.
in greenwich all the boxes are black...to fit in with the rest of the street furniture. :) |
