well my spam dropped markedly when the spam filters were introduced. from around 20-30 a day to zip. i have a had a couple a day of the last week or so.

every time a spam thread has popped up i have mentioned this yet some claim no one has mentioned anything on these forums. ntl use the spamhaus filtering list.

Out of interest-I got this today for my Virgin account;

Quote:

Hello,

We're upgrading our email service and, as part of a range of improvements, you'll automatically receive the latest anti-virus protection and email anti-spam on your Virgin.net email account. This will significantly reduce the amount of junk emails you receive, as we'll remove the spam emails before they reach your Virgin.net email inbox.

Are ntl doing any virus checking??

Im the admin email admin at work and sometimes to check our systems i send virus's out to my ntl webmail account so i can try and get them back into the system.

I have just sent 2 copies of the Netsky-p virus to my ntl account and they have not arrived?? send a few tests and they have all got here???:erm: :erm: :erm:

Seems a bit strange to me??? Are NTL virus checking our mails??

they are scanning for some viruses, hence the reason that some people are getting the "error 550-554 mutant bagle..." message if they are infected and trying to send email. I am not exactly sure if they are filtering netsky, but there is definately something in place.

MB-How lame is it when a company doesn't even tell it's employees what positive steps it is taking regarding spam etc? :rolleyes:

yes they are... otherwise people wouldn't be getting the message shown in this thread. They may only be scanning outgoing messages at the moment, but the anti spam legislation brought in in december requires all ISP to take some kind of action.

If any user sends more than 50 (or it might be 100 i can't remember) individual messages in an hour, action will be taken against them.

For news on proper spam/ av filtering at server level, all i can say is... watch this space... ;)

I find that Mailwasher doesn't deter repeat offenders, in most cases. I found the only way to shake off these gits is to leave all of your spam on the server. It seems that if it appears that there has been no activity in your email account for a couple of weeks then they decide its a dead account and go away, for a while at least.
I use a program like Poptray to preview my messages on the server. Any I need to open properly in OE I forward to another email account.
