I think a bit of wee just came out.

How do I know what equipment I'm on? Currently HW300 with 16 DS channels, 2 US, in area 31.

CMTS-MAC=0c:11:67:03:8e:41;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;

CMTS MAC comes back as a Cisco on the Wintelguy site, so CBR-8?

My CMTS MAC is 00:01:5c:7b:ac:6a

That comes back as "CADANT INC." on the Wintelguy site.

CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:7b:ac:6a;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;

Where you live in Bristol will determine which kind of CMTS you're currently connected to. As only part (the majority of) has been upgraded. It won't be long until the whole of Bristol is on E6000s though

True. Just a bit of a pain you have to pay for a download speed you don't need / want just go get a decent upload.

Yep, I rarely need 200 M download, but use the 20 M upload a lot.

I'd rather have something like 150 / 50.

Seems the demand is there for it, maybe not widespread but I wonder how hard it would be for Virgin to create a package similar to the "gamer" one, but with a *lower* download and higher upload for those who want it.

Does anyone know how well the network would cope with higher (say 50mbps) US?

Depends on the area, so they couldn't really offer a national package, it would end up being like HW300 and only available in some places. I'm on HW300 but with only 2 upstream channels, which is nearly 50mbit of bandwidth. Some areas have more channels, and can offer more.

But the channels are shared, if I had 50mbit upstream then I'd get contention as soon as anyone else used any upstream for anything.

Yep can get 300HW here too but also on 2 upstreams still, so I imagine i'd be in the same boat as you if they did roll it out to areas with only 2 upstreams.

For comparison, they won't give you HW300 unless you have 12 DS channels, which is about 456mbit of bandwidth. Many areas (including my own) are now on 16 DS channels, which is 608mbit of bandwidth.

They couldn't really sell a service where one person could saturate the segment alone, leaving nothing for anyone else.

I've got 16 DS now, but only 2 US which I suspect is why we were allowed 300 when we had it for a few months.

Worked well, always got about 330 down and 20 up, even at peak times.

I can see VM doing another upgrade soon as the new equipment I hear can handle 24 downstreams not sure about the upsteams

Free speed upgrade? They haven't even finished the one from 2015 yet.

I'm on 16 down and 2 up but 300Mb isn't available here yet.

It's hard to find on the website, I also found the call centre useless. Went into the store near me and they sorted it out in about 3 minutes.

Free boost from 100-150, 200-250 with a 10:1 US boost too? :D

That's strange, CS would probably put 300 through for you if you rang up about it

It's not on the website unless available in your area. Well that's looking at it as a new customer, not sure about upgrading.
