i've not got 103 - am watching it on the ad channel which is in the 700's somewhere... I suggest people buy some batteries for the remote this week! Lots of flicking to be done, omg this is going to take some getting used to. :rolleyes:

I live in the Bolton (Lancs) area, and there was no sign of any changes this morning. Not a clue about thwe Bromley/Langley stuff. - Can anyone advise?

The area we're in was originally Nynex -> C&W -> NTL

It does take an age to sort through - I have a Tivo and was watching the channel renumbering live, so to speak (after forcing a telephone call when I saw my box switch from 722 to 512).

As noted by Quadplay- all sorts of odd behaviour ensued for a while, but everything seems ticketty boo now :tu:

It's Nigel and James at NTL who did a lot of work to get things correct on TiVo. So a big TiVo :tu: to them!

Yes tried that on both my boxes but it skips the 200's, 300's, 600's and 800's. (only happens with page up and down)

i got up late, and upon noticing that sky sports had turned into something else entirely had to turf through a pile of mail / 'to be filed' to find the channel listing ntl kindly sent a week ago, I'd be lost without it!

Does anyone know if there's a printable list of the channel numbers online? Yes, I know I have the leaflet from NTL and I've seen the PDF of it but I'm not finding it easy to use. What I could really do with is just a list in two columns which I can print onto the front and back of a sheet of A4 and highlight the channels I use most. I got one I think from Digital Spy for the old numbers but I can't find one on there for the new numbers.

What channel number do you use for main BBC1?

If it's currently "1" then you are Bromley.

Been away for a bit - thought I'd have a peruse after seeing about the number changes......

Looking at the PDF - few strange ones.... Radio 1-5 on 901-905 so you would have thought Radio 6 & 7 would be on 906 / 907.....wrong!.....909/910 - you have World Service / 1Xtra / 5LiveExtra in the middle....

I know not a big thing but just weird!

Notice also the gap between Setanta Sports 1 (538) and CelticTV (540) obviously that will be Setanta 2 ready for the 2007/2008 season.....(but where will they put Setanta 3!):erm:

The channel order is a little better than before in that I haven't had to re-arrange them through the settings menu as much :)

The good thing is that they've left space for channels they don't have to slot nicely into the EPG. I also notice some channel names on the EPG have been modified, such as TCM becoming Turner Classic Movies and five becoming Five. Overall, an improvement, although still not perfect. At least you can rearrange it though.

I got a letter through the post today telling me about the big channel numbers change. The letter actually reads "The changes will take place in the early hours of the morning, which means your viewing won't be interrupted."

So... does that mean tomorrow morning? How did they know it would get to me today if this is the case? :D

I'll be interested to see how soon it does happen... I had a feeling NTL had been playing because our TV service has been nothing short of shocking of late :(

Ah crap..and we've still not found our remote...at least it's been easy to flick up and down the bbc1,2,itv1,2,channel 4 and 5 one at a time as they are single numbers.If it goes to 100 etc then we are going to get fed up fingers.

i have a black one if you want it, never been used. Was sent to me on a field trial but was never used as my STB had been changed to a Samsung, they sent me a blue one for the field trial but didnt want the black one back.

Numbers changed here on the Wirral with no problems channel order was mixed up but setting back to default order sorted that out.

All changed here in Leeds, I can never be bothered to arrange all my channels as it takes so long so I just chose the option were it puts all the channels I don't subscribe to at the end of the list

The first I knew of this channel reshuffle was when I woke up this morning and couldn't get BBC1 by pressing "1" on the remote.

A couple of hours later and there's a letter in the post from NTL telling me that customers had told them that their channel numbers were a little strange, so they've changed them. I'm not sure what exactly was strange about having 1=BBC1, 2=BBC2, 3=ITV, 4=C4, 5=Five. Seemed logical to me.

Previously I knew my favourite channel numbers (such as 15 for ITV4, 8 for ITV3, etc etc); but now I need to remember 117 instead of 15 and so on. Where's the logic? If they were organising the channels to make it easier for all customers, shouldn't BBC3 and BBC4 follow BBC1 and BBC2; and shouldn't ITV2/3/4 follow ITV1?

Then I looked in the TV paper and realised what NTL have *really* done. It's nothing to do with what customers have told them. NTL numbers have changed to the numbers that Telewest use. Instead of changing the Telewest numbers, NTL change NTL numbers. Marvellous.

It is not all that strange, really. There are effectively three parts of NTL:Telewest, the largest whole part was the Telewest area, then the Langley NTL area and finaly the smallest part was the Bromley NTL area (your part that had the renumbering last night).

It makes perfect sense to base the renumbering on the scheme already used by the majority of customers (Telewest). The scheme is also similar to that used by the second largest group of customers (Langley - 101 for BBC1, etc.). Unfortunately, you are in the minority (Bromley) so it was never going to match your old scheme.

Well AFTER the change I got the letter this morning.

Apparently they have kindly put the channels together so that all the childrens channels are together,all the sports are together,all the movies are together,all the documentary channels are together,all the music are together.

This is the third renumbering I've had to learn...and you know you can't teach an old biddy new tricks.

grumble..as if I've got nothing better to do than constantly relearn new sets of numbers..grumble...at 53 most of my brain cells have already died..grumble..:(

Have you seen the info we now need to just operate our lives?A pin number for EVERY card,mobiles,websites and the way in which my daughter just casually changes phone numbers is very hard to keep up with.

I just can't see WHY they even bothered.The reasoning is just rubbish in my opinion and only benifits a very small minority who moaned..I was perfectly happy with the old system.

not wanting 3 different channel numberings for the "same" platform is a pretty good reason to me. having the channels grouped is a lot better than how they were before. tbh, i rarely ever used the numbers directly as i keep the channels i watch at the top of the channel list and just use channel up/down

For some reason all my chanels have changed correctly, except BBC Three and BBC Four which are now on 593 & 594, not 106 & 107 as they should be.

After sitting there for an half an hour this morning re-arranging my favorites, I just switch on the TV now to find they've all been reset again. :rolleyes:


While I don't have a problem with all the new numbers, I really do miss the old days when I could re-number them in the favorites list. IE, Sky1 was on channel 30 but I could put it in favorites slot number 7, Movies that were 51, 52, 53, etc could be moved to slots 11, 12, 13, etc.

Oh well, I'm off to re-do my faves list, and must remember to press 101 and not just 1 before I start channel surfing. :shrug:

I tried the *ok, <, > * reboot earlier, but that did nothing.

rebooting from the wall socket seems to have done the trick though.

weird how every other channel went through fine over night though

Hmph,
Really annoyed at the moment!
I thought as soon as I switched on my box that something had happened because it was tuned to channel 400 which is not where I left it last night. So, after spending about an hour putting the channels back in the order I like them, later on today, the box froze for about 15 seconds and the channels went back to the default order:mad: . Once again I spent another hour reshuffling them only to find that about half an hour later they go back AGAIN:mad: :mad: .

New systems make perfect sense and allows room for expansion (I notice there are some interesting gaps ;) ).

I came home from work today to find my channels done (im in Brighton). Why havn't NTL let anyone know about this? They are quick enough to send me a letter each month asking me to sign up to broadband, even though I have it!
