nothing to do with this conversation, but zinglebarb how come you got a clan on spearhead but not breakthrough??? is spearhead better??? i play breakthrough mainly

There are breakthrough clans its just a lot of the leagues play spearhead and have done for longer. Breakthrough only really brings a couple of different maps and the Liberation game type

your machine is a scaleo p. okies :) this board should do the trick then http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/98335 .

and at least you dont have to worry about low profile graph cards which are a pita to find.

smiffer 23-10-2006 23:04

Re: Help with PCmaking

ok and the other motherboard that docdutch pointed out you would be able to have a PCI-e or AGP card connected??

zing_deleted 23-10-2006 23:05

Re: Help with PCmaking

on a little side note I built a table top arcade game system today using an old pc and an adapter that turns the joystick and buttons to usb.Ill post pictures tomorrow its still in bits. Its going to run MAME in 2 player mode with 1000's of games

smiffer 23-10-2006 23:06

Re: Help with PCmaking

doesn't say on there that it has PCI-e ports or AGP i'm just probably being annoying now i know. They should make it harder for simple people like me to get in these things and ask loads of idiot questions

DocDutch 23-10-2006 23:06

Re: Help with PCmaking

only pci-express Smiffer. cheaper nowadays then AGP.

go on Zing recommend him some nice graph cards you know you want to ;)

thats an atx board not a matx are you sure that would fit? you could buy the asrock twin board and have both agp and pci-e for 40 quid if that will fit

X1800xt for about 150 quid x1900xt about 220<<< both pci e

smiffer 23-10-2006 23:08

its the machine Zing. http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/Resou.../463260357.pdf (details..bit little from siemens but still)

smiffer that is a nice card, I myself prefer ati but thats personal opinion, the Nvidia cards I've had always had something wrong with the drivers.

thats not that far im near coventry more gfx ram will not compensate for the much better x1900xt card even with only 256 meg remember this card was top of its game not very long ago and cost 350 quid the 7900GS was never a top card only a cut down version of the lowest of its core type (I think lol )

No to that card dude

Sapphire X1600 Pro 512MB DDR2 AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-115-SP)

Not that i'm mocking all the time you've gave me but my missus would have horses (nevermind kittens) if i spent around £160 on a graphics card. so kinda thinking budget!! whats this like??? or would you say save the pocket money i'm aloud??

zing_deleted 23-10-2006 23:36

Re: Help with PCmaking

how much is that?

---------- Post added at 22:36 ---------- Previous post was at 22:35 ----------

Stretch to the x1800gto and ill let you off

smiffer 23-10-2006 23:44

Re: Help with PCmaking

<STRONG><FONT face=Arial>(£82.24 Including VAT at 17.5%)

---------- Post added at 22:44 ---------- Previous post was at 22:37 ----------

thast still about £120 you know how much i paid for my 128mb geforce 5200??? a wholesome £45!!!

zing_deleted 23-10-2006 23:45

Re: Help with PCmaking

and it wasnt worth that however if you can stretch to the x1800 gto or better still the xt you are getting value for money. Trust me mate :)

smiffer 23-10-2006 23:51

Re: Help with PCmaking

so the x1800xt is the one to get. can you really tell the difference??

zing_deleted 23-10-2006 23:52

Re: Help with PCmaking

lol only just a lot its all in the pipes lol

when you get it download the toyshop demo from ATI its wicked

smiffer 23-10-2006 23:53

Re: Help with PCmaking

and the x1800xt the 512mb version could you tell difference between that and the 256mb??

zing_deleted 23-10-2006 23:54

Re: Help with PCmaking

not massively not as much as a difference between the 1600pro and 1800xt lol

smiffer 23-10-2006 23:54

Re: Help with PCmaking

its all in the pipes??? is that just a saying or does it mean summat

zing_deleted 23-10-2006 23:55

Re: Help with PCmaking

it does mean something its pixel pipelines theres a lot more on the x1800xt to the x1600 pro

the x1650xt is the best of the x16xx cards and thats not as good as the x1800gto according to micromarts review this week

smiffer 23-10-2006 23:59

Re: Help with PCmaking

ok so just to sort it i need:-
Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA motherboard skt775 VIA PT880 1066FSB PCI-E AGP 8x SATA RAID LAN ATX (Dual core & compatible)
and;
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)

and thats all i can remove my processor from this motherboard and slot it straight into top motherboard, laugh at old geforce 5200 and play any game i want

zing_deleted 24-10-2006 00:00

Re: Help with PCmaking

Re: Help with PCmaking

well everything plugs into it. You need to do a bit of research before you tackel this mate its not beyond anyone to do the job but be sure you know what in entails before you start :)

smiffer 24-10-2006 00:28

Re: Help with PCmaking

ok maybe dumb but how would you know if it isn't??? and please don't say if it starts smoking turn it off quick

zing_deleted 24-10-2006 12:57

Re: Help with PCmaking

well the system would struggle to power everything. If your just running 1 or 2 hard drives 1 optical drive and the card unless its a seriously rubbish psu it will work. One thing to watch for is if your mobo now has a 20 pin and the new one demands a 24 pin atx power supply. If you fancy a day out ill do it all for you for a nominal charge.?(unless of course your 200 miles away then you should maybe find someone closer lol )

Gareth 24-10-2006 14:14

Re: Help with PCmaking

My nvidia displays a nice warning when it's not getting enough power... something along the lines of certain features being disabled due to lack of power. You click OK, and another pop-up appears to replace it just as quickly.

That's how I knew it was time to replace my PSU (shame cause it was a very nice, virtually silent Antec 380W, but it just didn't want to work with my card :()
