Why cant you understand that if NTL release information officially then its a commitment to the customer and likely to happen. If information is released via this site then it has to be taken in the light that the information is provided and that is its a provisional schedule, with no commitment which therefore may or may not happen due to unforseen issues.

Stop whinging, get a life and let the guys and girls at NTL get on with resolving the problems that they have obviously found and that they have trapped before the customer was aware.

Why should i change my tv, phone and broadband? Too much f'ing hassle, that's why. Cable should be miles ahead of Sky in terms of developement but it's not. I'm holding out that one day they'll get their act together and give us a service that's worth £90 a month that I pay. I think the phone is the only thing that works as it should.

I for one am getting just a little bit sick and tired of the attitude of some people on this forum. It has come to the point now where I only read the NTL or Telewest †˜helpâÃà ‚¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ sections because I am fed up of looking in the basement area of the forum and seeing how perfectly reasonable topics of conversation turn into bitter slanging matches because some people think others arenââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t allowed to have an opinion. You should not have to justify your opinions! People have vendettas against certain individuals and instead of being adult about their problems by discussing their issues in private, they post pathetic threads on the forum to stir up trouble which is absolutely appalling and total out of order. Why do people feel the need to post these attacks? Because they are not adult enough to discuss it one on one †“ they need others to help stir up the trouble.

If people are going to act like children then maybe its time we started treating them like it i.e. taking away their privileges such as participating in the basement section of the site.

I think people fail to realise what a privileged position they are in being a member of this forum. You get to know an awful lot more than the average NTL customer, who are its fair to say, are left in the dark till the very last minute in a lot of cases. It angers me that all the hard work of the Cable Forum team, forging those links with NTL are thrown back in their faces when people spit the dummy out when 11 new channels donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t launch. I would not blame the mods/admin if they never bothered to post information earlier than is necessary ever again. And I also wouldnââ‚Ã⠀šÃ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t blame NTL for not allowing them to post such information again because of the negative response from some members.

I feel that the NTL employees who take the time and effort to help people on this site are taken advantage of. They are useful to people when they help them with a problem they are having, but when they try to defend NTL they are slagged off. Labelling NTL employees †˜monkeysâà ƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚¬Ã¢â€à …¾Ã‚¢ for examples is totally out of line because the majority of the staff who work for the company put 100% into their job (others more) and they should not have to defend themselves. Yes NTL arenââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t perfect, neither is Telewest (and believe me they are not), nor or Sky or any other company in the world †“ and neither is any individual. NTL were shocking, I admit as I have had run ins on many occasions, but things have certainly improved and all credit should go to staff who have helped with these changes.

What has really got to me recently is this thread about the new channels. People wonder why NTL donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t give out dates for new channels, software and VoD? Take a look at this thread. People have moaned and groaned about the new channels being delayed and how appalling NTL are that they have missed the launch date. Failing to realise that NTL themselves never did officially announce a date to any of its customers, and therefore have no reason to be sorry that they still havenââ‚ƚ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t launched. Cable Forum did us a favour by letting us know before it happened and they had the permission of NTL to do so. When you see a thread such as this, you realise how clever NTL actually are not to give specific dates. At the end of the day these are new channels that you have coped with perfectly well without for a number of months are years in a few cases, so a few more days are not going to hurt.

Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢m fed up of those people who insist on hijacking every thread to post the same complaint over and over and over as if itââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s going to make a difference. There is a perfectly good thread to post that problem, so why do persist in saying the same thing every time you post? It gets very boring and its puts people off helping you in the future. These people rarely have anything constructive to say.

The Cable Forum team do an amazing job in running such a useful forum and I think the personal attacks on certain team members should stop. Any decision made is not going to please everyone †“ and thatââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s tough! A decision is made because that mod/admin feels it was the right course of action at the time †“ and thatââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s final. And as has been said on many occasions, if you donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t like it go elsewhere!

erhaps its time that people look again at the purpose of this forum and realise that its here to help customers of NTL and Telewest in anyway it can and perhaps its time the basement area of the site is removed so focus is on helping rather than intimidating people. There is plenty of other sites out there where you can discuss the topics raised in the basement.

There's something up this morning in Swansea as my STB is running through an update of some sort. New channels maybe.........? Will keep you posted.

Anybody else in Swansea getting the same thing?

Internet is fine as I can post this didn't notice till I turned the telly on just got a purple screen on the cable channel other channels working ok.

i apreciate it will come when it comes .the software upgrade is higher on my list of when the hell will it arrive as i am board with re-booting my box and etc etc

it does grate with me given the issues we all have, that the problem with the channels is so bad it could make the problems worse ,i know a fair bit about broadcast so it worries me that this has happened, and in my opinion we wont get them till the network is on a level playing field when it comes to systems. given that i doubt the bromley rollout will be completed before the end of the year (from what friends have told me the poor NTL techs are haveing a mare and my hat goes off to them given what they have to work with/around and are doing a great job )

the channels themseves must be more annoyed than any of us as they must have nagotiated advertising contracts with the extra veiwer potential which they wil have lost or maybe not i wouldnt know

we should start a book on the date i will say 10th Oct :D

There has been talk of them coming on the 5th of october, but i dunno wether this is true of not as the 5ths a wednesday, and so far all the proposed launch dates have been thursdays.

It is now 20 days sicne the new channels were supposed to be launching. Any chance of them appearing?

Also, given that they seem not to have got round to launching these new channels, what about More4? Will this channel be appearing on ntl and will it be there from launch?

Similarly, what is the position with Sky 3 and ITV4, which launch in five weeks time?

Hiya

I can't give any new dates for the channels to launch, but I can confirm that we are not waiting for the new software to rollout before launching anything more so there's no reason to think that they will be delayed until next year.

I hope that the channels will launch in October, but it's subject to some more testing being completed successfully.

My guess with More4 is that it'll launch at the same time or soon after the others, if the others don't come before the 10th.

Sad that i say this but i doubt we will get more4 on the 10th my bigest gripe with all this new channels not launching (on a date we all learned from one or two of the channels themseves and not from NTL so it doesnt count as an official press realise i know all that) is that is seems like no testing was done before the day and thats just bad practise,

saying all that i cant help feeling that NTL had said (to the channels)"we will start doing the tests on this date, if its fine we will just go ahead and launch but only if its ok"

I doubt it, why would they release launch dates to this forum if that was the case? Sam B has already mentioned in an earlier post that they had hoped to launch on the 8th but couldn't due to 'problems'.

Tests have been on-going since at least August 23rd when someone on another forum noticed hidden channels, which co-incidentally is around the time the 'channel 7' switching fault appeared on the Bromley platform.

I believe this is the 'technical problem' causing all the delay and I also believe that the new channels could have launched on Langley with no problem as they have been broadcasting in a hidden state since the start with no side effects and the visible overnight tests back this up. I guess they didn't want to alienate the Bromley customers more than they already have.

Ntl haven't officially announced a launch date to us but they have to the channels involved, twice! They have also been trying to fix this problem for over a month and still can't give any indication on when it will be resolved. Not very impressive for a 'leading' digital televison provider is it! :erm:


I expect so as it can use the space recently vacated by the Express Shopping Channel. Too many people know about it's launch with it being advertised on Channel four, it's non-appearance would generate a lot of unwanted calls to customer services wondering where it was.

Hi all,

I am a bit confused about More4.

E4 are advertising it, the website (channel4.com/more4) have information about it - including the fact that it's on NTL Channel 166 and it starts next week.

However, I've just phoned NTL about it to ask (i) will they be carrying it from the launch and (ii) which 'pack' of TV channels will it be in?

The woman who answered knew nothing about it. When I asked about channel 166 she said that they had nothing planned for that channel at all !

Does anyone here know any more than NTL about this?

As it is an FTA channel you would hope it ends up in all packs, select upward. I imagine an NTL person will be along to answer this soon.

Well I'm not gonna complain at how long its taken,but huge thanks ntl on adding the Horror Channel,its the standout from the 11 other new channels which seem mostly tv sales channels or pay per view porn,I guess E! and VH2 could be nice little play in the background as eye candy/noise channels,and that Motors TV will surely have its fans.

But where are they ? My box sure as hell doesnt pick these up yet unless theyre channels that appear for a few hours then disapear when off air

Any night owls about this morning around 2ish like me would have seen the new channels on (probably testing again in London). Even had MORE 4 and MORE 4 +1 listings. They've gone off again now. My only grip was The Horror Channel kept blanking for 1 to 2 secs every couple of mins. Hopefully not too long now to wait.

Hi everybody i am a newbie i am thoroughly naffed off with NTL i got the new channels yesterday i got home last night got E Entertainment,Euronews and StyleGardens,not to mention MotorsTV and The Horror Channel,then came 9pm last night went to watch something on EuroNews found they had dissapeared,they had only been testing and had taken them off,i thought they looked great there was nothing wrong,what is happening-has this happened to everyone else or is it just me ?:erm: :confused: :disturbd:

I'm only about a mile away, just off the Old Shoreham Road on the Hove side.

Must admit I am more interested in the new software, but even more interested in PVR. I currently use a HD/DVD recorder, but with only one tuner it doesn't serve the purpose I want. And with my Samsung box changing to chanel 7 whenever it feels like it, anything I record ends up being previews of Front Row anyway. That means I actually have to be there to record something, in which case I may as well just watch it!!!

yeah mine has done that every day for the past few weeks (box is on standby overnight) and also we keep getting the channel change issue where for example you change from 1 to 2 and it jumps to 3. this morning the box had changed to BBC one overnight (it was on the horror channel)yet the EPG insisted it was on BBC2 and when i pressed up it jumped to ITV which was dull.

Do you have a problem of your pictures losing colour,ie flicking from black and white to colour everytime you change channels ? I do and after 2 stb,s and countless engineers it still does the same i have been told that the software update will clear the problem-but i have to put up with this for another 3 months at the earliest before that happens-it is very,very annoying and irritating i just wonder if anybody else has this problem ?

No I don't get that, but I do get large periods of time when the remote doesn't work (batteries are fine) - mostly when coming out of standby or when its been on a channel for a long time, no idea when the new software is coming here :(

Sorry for those that were disappointed, but we were only testing the channels for a while, they weren't actually launched.

I'm hoping that you should have some official news posted today or early next week about launch dates for those 11 launches, and More 4. I'll make sure as soon as there is any news it's posted on the front page.

I had read and fully understood Sams previous post, I was merely following on from what invisibleboy said adding that if More 4 didn't launch on Monday as it will on every other digital platform, there will be a lot of annoyed people.

All kudos for Sam posting on here giving us a bit of inside information, but all we've had recently is glorified "coming soon" statements, her last post indicating that we will hopefully be getting some official news about the launches which I'm sure will be yet another "coming soon" :rolleyes:

It would be nice to know what this 'problem' actually is thats taken them over five weeks to fix, because every visible test that anyone has seen indicates there are NO problems with the channels.
