They're going to close it eventually anyway. This site is the best possible protest ... it does everything .com did but without being under the shadow of ntl. It's been nice to see some familiar names on here in the last 24 hours that don't usually come to .co.uk much. Hope everyone hangs around a while longer. :wavey:

having met Frank, recently, during which I couldn't help thinking he is a thoroughly decent bloke, I would be quite prepared to boycott *.com in protest at his treatment? - that may be putting neil etc out on a limb - and having met Neil I wouldn't want to upset him, either. Why are people so worried about a forum going down?

One of my regulars has been hacked but I'm not going on about it.

The internet is not foolproof and sites and servers go down for no apparant reason from time to time.

Get over it and stop worrying about it.

There is more to life than a web site.

Roger K, we got internally borked on our servers today - someone sent a 4 meg powerpoint file attached in an email to all users, over 1000 of us.. intranet & link to file hasn't sunk in!

sorry, to make it clear that is our company intranet - not ntl, we run on NT with a Lotus Notes client.

So from what I can guess (and this is a guess), Ash G has taken over .com, posting a rather late security article on the front page, Frank has been suspended and had all his news + forum rights removed, Mick has quit and gone back to being Minder and NTL have been threatening KingPhoenix about the content of Frank's blog!
Meanwhile on this site, our membership has increased at nearly the rate of our opening day... :spin:

Does this mean that all the admins are resigning?

Frank is suspended. Mick has left. Craig is suspended. If Neil and Ben leave then there is a slight problem over there esp if they don't think about it first.

Well I would say at present no.

Frank has to be in bed by a certain time according to NTL.

There are currently no Mods on there at present and hopefully they are considering their options.

Now that leaves the authorisation down to that ****wit Ash G who has successfully destroyed the site and Frank career within NTL.

So dont hold your hopes out of getting your membership there authorised.

Sorry to appear blunt but I am guessing thats the way it is.

I guesed as much but I don't think that Ash G has admin CP access as he is just a normal user like everyone else.

Surely it will mess things up a lot if no-one has access to the CP as they will then have to wipe the site and start afresh or just give up and do something with community

He will have, nobody else would have banned Frank.
I remember seeing part of the email on Frank's blog that quoted AshG as saying "I would like the passwords for the site".

Well after all the speculation earlier today, this really could be the writing on the wall for .com. Certainly someones gonna have to get a grip fast if they arent to be left without any admins / mods. Ntl can't have an unmoderated site in their control, far too much of a liability. Community anyone?

Well I had my own 'disapointment' at the hands of Ashley. Details of a private phone discussion I had with him and follow up private email ended up on the .com forums within a day. I certainly lost much trust in him following that. He claimed that he was not the source and had discussed these things with only a 'very few' people.

Not a great track record.

The old site is gone... its not too hard to tell who is here, and what there motives are, but hopefully this site won't be all "I hate Ntl, f**K Ntl, Ntl are to$$ers etc" and hopefully it wont require Ntl employees to intervine on the behalf of customers..

maybe Ntl will look at this site and see the problems / issues raised and do something pro-active for a change..

we can dream...

OK this could be a bit of a controversial post, but here goes.....

I don't know how old Frank is, but from the fact he mentions on his blog site he was finishing a Uni course I estimate under 25 years. I also assume from that he has never worked for a large corporation before (if worked in commerce at all).

It appears he was a bit naive in expecting to start work for ntl and be able to dictate not only what job he did but to also dictate how it was done. In a situation like this (i.e. another number on a large company salary sheet) you do what you are told, when you are told and you do not make decisions. You can put forward ideas but do not expect answers. Oh and you do not start grievance procedures against your boss !! One last thing..if you don't get on with your line manager, you are doomed. No question.

I'm afraid IMO Frank's position in ntl is now untenable, he has nowhere to go. He took on a particular role and that is now bolloxed and with it I very much fear will go .com also without him at the helm.

That is unless there are some very determined people in the right places who are of a mind to save it !!

From the moment NTL got hold of .com it was a doomed site.
does anybody really expect anything other than a disaster and a lot of angry annoyed people where ntl are concerned.
If anybody thought it would turn out any different you are daft enough to work for the company, so go and apply for a job.

I think it was all the comments about how much of an a****** AshG was that caused it to be deleted. To be fair there were a number of personal attacks againt the gen... person in question.

However, he appear's to be stating that the original topic will not be allowed to be discussed because it is contentious. i.e. Fracks internal dispute with NTL.

Hmm, that's a lot to ask of anyone. This isn't a life changing situation, it's a forum. Neil is employed to do a job, which he does well. Frank has some issues that a lot of people support, including Neil. The option to resign is a personal one to Neil and would not be based just on the current dealings with Frank.

I doubt that Frank would ever ask that anyone resign to support him.

Community has been 'coming soon' for getting on 5 months and counting ... but then BB has been 'coming soon' for UDT et al for several years. Pick a number and multiply it by the amount BK earns per hour, reckon the result to be in years and you might be close.

5) I have spoken to Frank briefly this afternoon, & would like to stress that he has put me under no pressure whatsoever to resign/stay etc-although as a friend I fully support Frank in what he does, & what he is currently going through.

6) I hope I have addresses people's concerns, please understand also what a hard time this has been for us-I logged on this morning to find all hell breaking loose because of someone's mistake with VBulletin.

7) I genuinely want the site to remain open & believe it 'could' be a site that revolutionises the way online help is given, but I will not allow ntl to dictate to me, as I feel I know the site's members far better than they do.

That's it really, please be patient, & if anyone posts a question-don't start $lagging me off because I don't reply straight away-I do have a life & a job away from this site (believe it or not!)

I just tried to reply on his blog but there is an error on it so I'll just say it here instead.

Judging by the 'who's online' bit at the bottom of the forum front page, a lot more people are frequenting this site lately. Is this as a result of folks coming over for a look while .com was down?

Anyone with access to the full-on hit stats want to tell us exactly what the impact on this site has been?

Also, the old version of the forum told us how many unique visits the site had had during the day. I always used to look at that as a comparison between .com and .co.uk to see how well this site was doing at expanding its appeal (not in competition with .com necessarily, but using it as a benchmark). That stat has now gone, but it would be nice to have it back... :)
