The website shut down in October so not surprising
https://www.boxplus.com/index.html

It was a strange move at a time when MTV, NOW, TRACE channels etc were moving from traditional linear channels to FAST channels, Channel 4 decided to kill of the streamed versions of their channels. With no presentation and running multiple channels from a single computer server, the channels must be as cheap as chips to run. An odd direction to take for an organisation planning to become a "digital first public service streamer".

They could add music FAST channels to Channel 4 app though & other platforms

Which is why Sky acquired 412....for EPG reshuffle of their channels.

Sky Sports Arena is showing Swansea City v Leeds United on 13th February for example.

The Sky Sports Tennis channel will also be available on Virgin Media.

Virgin customers can find Sky Sports Tennis HD on channel 520 and Sky Sports Tennis SD on channel 537.
I think Virgin Media will move Sky Sports Tennis again at the later date.

Indeed. It would add value to the app and be a relatively cheap way of distributing channels which are also relatively cheap to playout. Exactly what Paramount has done by adding MTV channels to their Pluto app. So, it raises a question why Channel 4 hasn't done this with the existing Box channels. I wonder if it might have something to do with the Bauer branding. It might be better to launch fresh, new channels without the cost burden of brand licensing. It will be interesting to see the eventual outcome.

It would be difficult to extend the existing range of Sky Sports channels without clashing with the Eurosport channel range. Then it becomes an issue if one broadcaster has their channels demoted to add a competitor's channel. Moving out Sky Sports News HD or Sky Sports Racing HD to 537, with a minor reshuffle of existing Sky Sports channels, could give a tidier layout, assuming Sky are happy with that. Otherwise, it will just have to wait until Virgin decides to do an EPG clean-up and reshuffle for the Sport genre.

A load of new channels have been added to my Stream box - far too many for me to check individually right now. But at quick glance, entertainment, +1s, movies, music etc. So presumably all the ones that had subscription codes added recently.

The Sky Sports UHD channels are also listed, though not currently available to subscribe to through the Subscriptions app.

I've had another quick look. It seems pretty much every channel on 360 is now on Stream - except for: Sky Sports SD, MUTV, LFCTV and the non-BBC radio stations. Haven't been able to check the adult channels.

It looks like Stream could be being geared up to become VM's primary TV offering, especially given the XGS-PON rollout. Now, it just needs some cloud recording!

Virgin did close Yesterday+1 and Eden+1 in 2008 for Watch channels (Now called W and W+1) to launch.

The A+E Networks UK are own by both A+E and Sky UK - both 50%.

I keep on forget also this - so maybe a new deal.

SD Channels are rumoured on other web sites that set to close soon on Sky (Astra) in the coming months. So maybe Sky History +1 is on the unknown list of channels closing.

Unfortunately, just another downgrade to the system since Mr Musk took over Twitter. You now need an account to view posts, although even that seems a bit hit and miss. I created an account to view it but I don't plan on becoming a regular Twitter user, especially not with it's current management.

Bluesky and/or Mastodon may be added when the system goes fully live in March. It depends how things go. (I don't know if they are any easier to view).

Probably an EPG error as the "Channel No Longer Available" descriptions have shuffled forward to February 8th.

Sky History HD along with Sky History +1, Crime+Inv HD & Crime+Inv +1 have had a minor switch of subscription codes, moving from Documentaries to Entertainment. This means that any subscribers with any of the legacy personal picks will now receive the channels. Previously available to personal pick subscribers with the Entertainment & Documentaries pick.

In other news, SONY SAB is currently available to all users, possibly only for a limited period.

That look like (to me anyway) that Virgin has signed a last minute deal with A&E Network UK/

Why do I think this way?

*Crime+Inv HD - Channel 133.
*Sky HISTORY +1 - Channel 331.
*Crime+Inv +1 - Channel 333.
*Sky HISTORY HD - Channel 131.
-Channel listed has change subscription packages from Documentary to Entertainment.
-All Mixit users with personal picks will now be able to view these channels.

Or Virgin is progressively trying to get rid of the personal picks completely. I suppose it depends on how many subscribers are actually on personal picks. Numbers will be going down as they are no longer sold to new users.

VM is now selling Mega TV bundles in nexfibre areas via Stream boxes. I assume that this is a new development following the additional channels that were added to the Stream service earlier this month.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)

VM aren't doing the best job of showcasing what they have to offer.

I was having a look at their website earlier and out of the '190+' TV channels in the 'Bigger Combo bundle' the 6 channels that they have chosen to highlight are Sky Showcase, MTV, Gold, Comedy Central, W and Drama.

Given that W and Drama are both free channels, they are hardly the best at showing the value of a pay TV package costing £49 per month.

Channels like Alibi, Discovery, National Geographic or Crime + Investigation would all be much better choices.

Yes, they don’t even promote their own Virgin Ultra HD channel.

Well they have been gradually trying to push people over to 360 and Stream for a while now, using various apps as an incentive, i.e. Disney+, Paramount+, Apple TV+ etc.

I'm surprised that they haven't just told the customer base that the old boxes will be changed out for TV360's over a short period.

They would rather have the customers themselves making this decision.

Seeing that Virgin is not forcing their customers to change their boxes until they are no longer capable of coping with newer technology.

No mention of it being added to Virgin, wonder if it will be? Really annoys me when those who don't pay for TV get channels that we don't.

I don't think we should have to. When we pay for a TV service it should be there (and recordablep) if it's on Freeview. It also allows the STB to suggest programmes.

Virgin Ireland customers to lose out on the new Sky Sports Tennis channel:

Looking at that date , i suspect Tiny Pop is going to turn into GREAT! Real, so not really a new channel.

The introduction of Freely later this year will remove the need for an aerial.

Someone like Manhattan or Humax might make a box. I'm quite pleased by this development as the number of hotels and BnBs I've stayed in with poor TV reception is disappointing and this might help them in the future.

Possibly but they can't even get enough stock of their current models onto the market. Heaven knows how many years it could take them to design and produce new models.

Yes, the lack of technical details from Everyone TV makes it difficult to determine exactly what Freely will involve. At the moment it seems to involve DVB-I, so perhaps new tuning sequences will be required, as is the case with the BBC IP channels on Freeview Play.

The difficulty of retro-fitting extra tuning stages and the possible need for more powerful processors, different memory requirements etc probably mean that it will only be added to new TVs.

I assumed that the internet was needed to receive the FAST streaming channels, but it's been said that on Virgin they are converted into regular DVB-C broadcast channels. Is this correct and can they be accessed without the internet?

No, if the internet is down, they won't load any further than their launch slates on traditional cable. Obviously, if internet services are down, stream devices won't be very useful at all.

Not entirely unexpected. The "Talk" rebranded local TV channels will now have to scramble for replacement filler content. A return of Judge Judy perhaps?

It's the Ofcom way, send a stern letter and then do nothing. They should have taken action years ago.

I imagine the Government leant on them to take a Softly Softly approach to save them from embarrassment.

Now, with a General Election fast approaching where the Tories are likely to lose, they feel more confident in doing something about it.

I would expect OFCOM to allow them to ditch local content to an absolute minimum - just like ITV1 has now.
Local TV does not work in UK - except maybe London.

They're now down to 4 x showings of 15 mins a day during the night and often show out of area news and try to make it apply to other areas by mentioning the in area name!

London Live is probably the best local channel, but even that has cut it's local news and I believe still loses money.

Don't forgot different dramas and programs are sometimes shown too on STV. Or like BBC they show things at different times or days.
