Re: Rollout of the HUB5

So I've done a little testing and everything appears to be rather stable. I even plugged in my old trial WiFi pod and to my amazement it locked on instantly and works a treat - It never did work with my last hub3!
Quite handy for the occasional wired device at the far end of the house.

You need the 'Smart WiFi' option enabled on the hub for it to work, it must be noted.

Today I had about 30s of downtime and loads of T3's - Config file changed to cscp.boot and my modulation dropped to QAM32 (since reverted back to 64). Performance doesn't seem to have changed, nor the firmware version, however. Probably just some noise on the network locally.

If only VM could bring back the option to change DNS, I reckon this could be quite usable for me.

I have an issue since my hub, I just cannot for the life of me login ty TP router, I even changed its login address when they are both different anyway.

Anyone know what the issue is maybe?

The Hub is a TP Link AX6000 V1. Fully upto date firmware.

HUB5 users can now use the POD's and the App has been updated to support the HUB4/5.

The question is are the SuperPOD's (POD's are discontinued) WIFI 5 like VM gave us to test and till recently to customers or newer WIFI 6 models for the HUB5 users (Plume now also have WIFI 6E models).

Interesting so if you apply for a hub 5 surely they will see I have hub 4 and I.also tested the super pods as well they should ask for those 2 back with the hub 4 and replace with hub 5 and 2 pods, or will they mess this up.

Like at the moment my hub 4 is ok and as they as they say don't fix what isn't broken and with hearing or so many issues people have had I'm a bit on the fence as work from home and can't have outages

Virgin Media will still send out both PowerPods and SuperPods depending on your tier of service and kit. Both are still WiFi 5.

humey 20-10-2022 17:01

Re: Rollout of the HUB5

All I said was Plume have discontinued the POD, they are what VM get be it their own branding and Firmware.

That makes little sense as the HUB4 had the POD's even though the App did not support it till recently and now HUB5 has the same support but no PODs till recently and they are still the lower WIFI 5 Models

Plume have had WIFI 6 SuperPODs since about Feb 2022 and just recently launched WIFI 6E SuperPOD's so once again VM are as late as the cow's tail.

Thank you

I use my own router linked via Ethernet so at present that is limited to 940M by the Hub4.

But 360s have problem with many (non VM) routers so the Hub 4 is still in Modem mode for those.

I don't think the WiFi range is any stronger on the Hub5, I barely get a signal 10ft from my front door, it's fine for what I need though.

Re: Rollout of the HUB5

I appliedvia the link a couple of weeks ago and to my suprise they sent the hub 5 despite me having 1 gig and 2 pods.

Its made a big difference to the WIFI as before I was getting a max og 250mps but now I get between 700-900mps. Some parts og the day it drops to 100mps but wfat frustrates me is that some days my Virgin connect app cannot see the Hub and despite of rebooting, I have to wait until it suddenly finds it again. At the moment, it cannot see it again saying 'Oops!Something went wrong, try again.' So at the moment, I can't unpause devices.

So those that have the superpods and upgraded from huh 4 to hub 5 did the superpods require a firmware update or do you wait for customer services to assign the superpods to the new Mac address of the hub 5

I just had VM ring to offer a upgrade to 1GB and a Hub 5 and after initially refusing the upgrade the sales lady made me laugh out loud so decided to be a sport and go for it.

So I have read through this thread and I see folks are still using the Hub in modem modem and opting for a separate router. So i think it might be time to update my Nighthawk router and get one with a 2.5GBe port. is it just one of the LAN ports need to be 2.5 or does the WAN port need to be 2.5?

Any recommendations on a router that works well with 1Gb service?

Not sure if this is what you're asking 1 x 2.5Gbps LAN port and 3 x 1Gbps LAN ports.

Thanks. I am asking if buy a new router to use the hub in modem mode does the new router need a WAN port 2 be 2.5gbe or a LAN 2.2=5gbe?

So the WiFi is alot better for you than the Hub3?

How many downstream and upstream channels did you end up with? I have 31 down but only 4 up.

Will be sending the Hub3 back tomorrow before they send me another email asking for it.

I got my Yodel delivery slot email on the day at 11:46...... The delivery slot was 11:23-13:23 and was delivered at 12:20, I wasn't in but stuck a note on the door asks to deliver to a neighbour rather than specifically do that in the app.

---------- Post added at 16:36 ---------- Previous post was at 16:36 ----------

So my email came during the 2hr slot.

Just dropped the Hub3 off for collection.

Must disagree with you.

From having stupid jitter and latency at peak time on the Hub 3, i now have a pretty good line 24/7, so quite the opposite of your comment. Know a few others with the Hub 5 and they have the same result as myself, a better line than before...

I couldnt many years ago.

Of course times change.

My area has no FTTP, Openreach are not even planning it here despite it been a large city, and City Fibre recently informed me I have a minimum 9 month wait.

I currently have a fault on my DSL which looks like it potentially will drag on and on, and with the modern era of games been 100+ gig downloads and regular 10s of gigs patches, 80mbit VDSL is feeling old now.

So I thought I would give VM another go, as it has been some years.

I agree, my hub 5 was great for a whole 4 months before it committed suicide, oh and the Wi-Fi was just as shit as hub 1, 2, 3 & 4 was (granted some of that will vary on your size of house/sort of construction)

Still perhaps it's better now.

No issue so far for me.

Plenty issues in plenty threads on VM forum, it is part of the reason I have not taken a HUB 5 up to now but let's see if it has improved with FW updates.

You'll always find plenty of issues if you go to official forums for anything.

Re: Rollout of the HUB5

Correct but does not change the fact the HUB5 was even more a balls-up "launch" than the HUB4 (which did get beta tested) and that is saying something.

The SH2ac was about VM best effort.

Didnt the hub 3 and 4 have a "cant fix" chipset issue?

Yes the Hub3 has the Puma chipset and the monstrosity looking Hub4 does too but not sure which version.

So far for me the Hub5 is working great, it's nice to see all those 31 downstream channels and the WiFi 6 icon on some of my devices, which are PS5, S20FE Phone and S7 Tablet.

Both did but the HUB 4 was powerful enough they did a band aid fix via FW and moved some of the load to the WIFI CPU, not ideal but makes the BQM graphs prettier.

I did state the SHUB2ac was the best but the HUB5 in the VM forum has had more complaints that the HUB3 and HUB4 (I have had both).

The poor sods who got it first were not beta testers and did not know it was basically one when they got invite emails.

My HUB4+1 SuperPod gets me 600+Mb/s anywhere in the home bar the bathroom and that is about max on the HUB 4 WIFI 5 ac Wireless, would need be 20/40/80/160 to get higher on ac.

I assume the large shower cabinets metal frame blocks it same as Bluetooth and I do not need a phone to shit.

Yes, the wording of that "invite" was poor to say the very least.

Is there a new generation of the WiFi Pods for the Hub 5?

I can't seem to get mine working that I got when I upgraded to Gig1 earlier this year along with the Hub 4.

EDIT: model I have is SP01-VM

Are they still hassling you ? they should be able to see it tracked as sent as they paid the courier. If they hassle call em and tell them the tracking number they can not argue with that. Once it is out of your hands it is the couriers responsibility as far as I see it and VM chose Yodel so their fault its a crap service. RM do a 2KG pick up for less now

I don't know what all the fuss is about, surely everyone got proof of postage? Anything else is out of your hands.

Well hopefully a receipt with a tracking code is good enough, but this is VM we're talking about and if they charge me when the Hub3 is enroute still I won't be happy as it will be a hassle to sort out I suspect.

They last sent me an email saying please return the Hub on 20th, I took to a collection point 12 days ago on the 24th.

If they try and charge me I will just pull it back with the DD guarantee

Its not so much hassle its more an annoyance at the constant text messages and an email asking for it back when it has been sent back.
