Re: Wandavision
Actually it was the episode’s opening theme that was The Office ... we”d just watched an episode of that as it happens, and the kids spotted it straight away - and hummed along. Given the rumours flying around that John Krasinski was going to show up this week playing Reed Richards, it seems a mighty big coincidence that while there’s no Krasinski, there’s the theme tune of the show he’s most famous for. I’m wondering whether Marvel has been playing with the fan base by disseminating misinformation and then acknowledging it in the musical score.

Re: Wandavision
I've been watching the US Office again recently and didn't make the connection although afterwards, I remember thinking 'they should do an opening based on The Office' so subconsciously it must have registered.

Re: Wandavision
Thanks - the opening scene "to camera" from the couch reminded me of Phil from Modern Family,

Re: Wandavision
I like Marvel but I am not their biggest fan. I find them fun, enjoyable films that I'll go to see and usually leave them at that. This is by far my favourite thing to have come out of them though, it's so different and inventive the way they're playing with the format and the audience's expectations.

Re: Wandavision
I wonder what's next? They're sticking to family/comedy shows so unlikely to see a Breaking Bad (although that WOULD fit the theme of what's happening) intro or a West Wing one.
Given it's Disney they could get away with doing a direct Simpsons copy but it wouldn't match the tone of the next show. So far they've been good at using the right show format for the direction of the episode. |
Re: Wandavision
Well, it’s been progressing through the decades, so it should be a 2010s show next...
|
Re: Wandavision
Incidentally ... 'Agatha All Along' is riffing on The Munsters.
|
Re: Wandavision
I wonder if, given the darkening tone, they will move away from the family fun intros and into more sinister show openings? They like to play with the meta, self-awareness, of the whole thing as well so maybe an iconic streaming show like House of Cards.

Re: Wandavision
I think now that we've had the Agnes reveal that the show might step away from the TV show themes.

I think if this becomes a struggle for control of Westview, there’s a good chance the next episode is going to start with a new version of Agatha’s theme, styled on a 2010s era crime or horror thriller (although bear in mind the show is rated for family audiences so they’re not going to lean in too hard on any 15- or 18-rated references). |
Re: Wandavision
An X-Files intro would work.

Also, everything else that went on this week seems to have led us to completely overlook Monica Rambeau's origin story as a superhero. Her comic book counterpart has had a lot of different names but given her mother's nickname in the MCU my money would be on her becoming Photon.

Also, Re: the closing credits always zooming through an RGB pixellated view of Vision's eye - last night we zoomed through Wanda's eye ... :spin:

Re: Wandavision
All getting very interesting.
Please stop using spoilers all over the place, its incredibly irritating to try and read. If people dont want to be "spoiled" then dont read the topic until you have watched the episode(s). ---------- Post added at 19:52 ---------- Previous post was at 19:50 ---------- Quote:

There was a classic “super hero” landing, as exposed by Deadpool.

... as exposed by Hugh’s video above ;)

X-Files wouldn't match the era but I think they could get away with it because they're composite opening anyways so a hybrid of X-Files/Breaking Bad e.t.c could work. |
Re: Wandavision
Latest issue of SFX if you want to pop out this weekend and grab yourself a copy
|
Re: Wandavision
Wanda finally named as Scarlett Witch. Liked the bit of Agatha's back story too. Can not wait till next week now

Yes, a lot of gap filling this week.

Re: Wandavision
Well they totally had us blagged. What an excellent series loved the finale. I will be watching it all through a few times I imagine

Re: Wandavision
I’ve seen C-Beams glitter in the dark at the Tanhauser Gate.
No Dr Strange, but he did get name checked. |

Yeah. Little link to Captain Marvel too. Still a great episode |
Re: Wandavision
Excellent ending - stay for the mid and post-credit sequences.

Re: Wandavision
Cracking stuff. Show really picked up after those first two episodes and kept delivering.
The Evan Peters thing was an absolute stinker though. Can imagine the mass disappointment. |
Re: Wandavision
The Evan Peters thing must still be leading to something, it's too intentional a casting for it not to be so.
|
Re: Wandavision
Well Disney owns the world now and Fantastic Four and X Men are coming and I for one would like to see the existing X Men cast to cross over instead of having new ones
---------- Post added at 22:24 ---------- Previous post was at 22:22 ---------- the worst thing coming though is Spiderman going back to Sony |
Re: Wandavision
Sony gives us the excellent Spiderverse and the Spiderman games though.
|
Re: Wandavision
I don't think Sony will be taking Spiderman back anytime soon. Disney is making a fortune off from it, so Sony will be to.
WandaVision has been excellent though and hopefully this is a sign of things to come with the Marvel shows. |
Re: Wandavision
Sony gets its name on the opening credits alongside the all-conquering Marvel, while not having to actually lift a finger to do anything ... I suspect they’ll be happy to take the money and let Marvel Studios do the work. Did Marvel really licence Spiderman to them in perpetuity though?
Wandavision was brilliant by the way, ad has nicely set up future appearances for Monica as well as a new series for Wanda and the ‘real’ Vision who is flying around somewhere ... |
Re: Wandavision
I believe Spiderman is one of the casualties of Marvel needing money so Sony more or less own the character outright. The same thing with what happened with X Men and F4.

I didn’t realise that Marvel only get 5% of the Spidey films gross, but own all the merchandise rights. https://donttellharry.com/2020/01/04...ony-or-marvel/ |

It feels like they are scraping the bottom of the barrel tbh. I didn't watch Wandavision and think "omg what an amazing character, I wish I could see more of her".
