Everton and possibly Arsenal have the longest continuous stay in the top division, Premiership or old 1st division.

I found it annoying that Villa had been left out of the privileged 14 when they have spent more years in the Premiership than Man City, surely it’s not all about money.

14 clubs expected to shoot down proposal today. Obviously that leaves six. Not sure if that's THE six.

Re: 2020/2021 season

I like some of these plans. Getting rid of the Charity Shield = good. I wouldn't get rid of the League Cup but I would exempt any team in Europe from it. It's one of the less popular ideas but I also support reducing the teams to 18. I think there are far too many games but I worry they'll simply find more time for European football instead.

I like the reduction to 18 teams because I think you could do a post-Christmas winter break with those reduced fixtures. Something has to be done about fixture congestion, whenever there is a cancelled game it causes real headaches for teams. We're seeing more and more cases of teams having games really close to each other.

I think this is the opening salvo of a longer-term war. The big six will keep trying and these proposals might have been designed to make a concession more palatable. The big six want an NFL style league IMO. Not because they're worried about relegation but they're worried about more Manchester Citys, it's not about dropping out but other teams coming in.

To be in a protected slot instantly increases the value of the clubs because any new investor can't just buy a 'lower' tier club to get a seat at the big boy's table.

And so long as Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Manchester City and Chelsea are part of it then they'll have the prospect of making such a league possible.

adzii_nufc 14-10-2020 11:10

Re: 2020/2021 season

There's already another Manchester City on the horizon dependent on how the legal battle goes. Southampton are for sale. Leicester and Everton are still making decent inroads. There's still strong suggestion with subtle hints from De Marco that the Premier League caved in and PIF will be arriving in the league very soon.

As earlier in the thread. Seems quite coincidental this that both Liverpool and Spurs (Also a few others) Tried to interfere and lobby the Premier League against Saudi Arabia taking over a Premier League club. Not a peep from anyone when they made enquiries about Manchester United. Two teams that absolutely didn't make an attempt were Manchester United and Manchester City. The former rolling in the Saudi sponsorship and the latter with deep links to the Saudi state.

I think removing teams in European competition from the league cup is a good idea, even we don't fancy playing it half of the time but it may sway that if the bottom half fancy their chances a bit more. I think giving the EFL a bursary each season is a good idea. That's it. That seems more like common sense than having to change the complexion of an entire league to justify it. Essentially all because the usual suspects are wetting the bed at the thought of being stretched even further.

I used to remember watching multiple teams play on a weekend and actually enjoying it. I really don't anymore. Arsenal invincibles, Mourinho's Chelsea and the Ronaldo show at Manchester United. Peak Premier League for me. Those teams really elevated the status but the point was fans of every team watched in admiration. The league belongs to us.

80 million quid for a standout defender in an above average team at Leicester. You'll find that can end up translating to an average or above average player at a world class team. £80 million is world class money and he's so far from it.

Teams came close to taking Lascelles off us for £40 million, Longstaff for £50m. You wouldn't pay that for the pair of them combined right now.

Very poor England performance. Undoubtedly the sending off and the 'penalty' changed how England played. Referee was poor in my opinion mind.

Just a quick snippet for my Anti-Southgate agenda (Yep I still think he's absolutely awful)

Gareth Southgate is now the second worst England Manager statistically in the past 20 years. Bumping Roy Hodgson up after tonights dismal display. Hodgson having played 10 more games too before accumulating that many losses.

The worst ironically being his old gaffer, Schteve

Fabio Capello is miles ahead of anyone else at the top and Sven in second. Says a lot about the English manager rhetoric doesn't it.

Also to add on to my frustration. He rolls through interviews like Steve Bruce. I absolutely don't need more of that.

I disagree with you about Southgate entirely. I think he`s a good coach/manager,it`s the players who are letting him down. These past few weeks have highlighted this.

We did not exactly have our strongest 11 last night but what perturbs me more is the lack of professional discipline from footballers when they are not playing football.

Both maguire and james got sent off for on field indiscipline.

maguire, pickford, rashford, walker and kane should never have been on the pitch.

Southgate is a dinosaur picking his favourites for competitive games rather than in form players.

Probably the funniest moment was Hojbjerg clattering into kane's knee.

Agree 100% with you. Pickford should of been shown a straight red for violent conduct. Makes you wonder what on earth VAR are looking at, especially when you take into consideration the 'offside' decision on the Liverpool 3rd goal too.

In a bewildering turn of events, Mike Ashley launches attack on Premier League PPV and Sky over £14.99 pricing, demanding it be lowered to a fiver a game.

Absolutely nothing to do with trying to paint a good guy image and him in the process of a legal battle with the Premier League.

To add to the Premier League's current woes, they've been served a second legal summons this morning by a leading sports lawyer representing Newcastle United fans (not the club) backed by a currently anonymous donor. Odds on Fat Mike. Their papers are served on the basis they believe the Premier League broke UK anti-competition law by allowing 9 Premier League clubs to interfere in the process. Two of which are named as Liverpool and Tottenham by Staveley and Ashley.

Hot on the heels of the Project big picture disaster, this seems very timed and calculated.

Can't beat some Steve Bruce football on a Friday night. :erm:

Can't quite put my finger on how he's the worst manager to ever grace the league. Is it the part where he's made the midfield invisible? Or the having two shots in 90 minutes. Every so often a team comes along and plays like absolute crap and he nicks a 3 pointer and we repeat the vicious circle.

Diabolical manager. It's embarrassing watching a front three of £100 million see absolutely nothing of the ball. £120m worth of forwards and wingers on there at one point.

Southampton should have arguably won by more, 3 points either way though.

Southgate out. Tactically clueless and hopelessly out of his depth.

Not the solution. Abolish the Premuership and limit foreign players if you want a decent national team.

Not entirely Southgate's fault. He had key players missing,i.e. Sterling and Trent Alexander. With the exception of Grealish the players let Southgate and the country down. The answer isn't get rid of the manager, it's players needing to be more passionate when they pull the England shirt on.

Its the Premiership before Country from fans and players. England won't be winning anything for the foreseeable future. Wales however... ;)

Can’t argue with Uniteds penalty or the retake but to rescind the West Brom pen was ridiculous.

Still can't understand why Miller is voted player of the year at City only for Pep to offload him the following season.

An update on the following after a few weeks.

The Premier League did eventually issue a private statement to the Lawyers of the fans group. That was then released removing the privacy. The letter advised that the group stand down from such a legal challenge at the present time as it would be in the best interests of both parties to continue to monitor ongoing legal action against the Premier League itself from Newcastle United football club represented by Nick de Marco and PIF Saudi Arabia represented by numerous.

In other words. The premier league inadvertently revealed that the club had indeed launched legal action against the league when they stated their intent to do so. Was meant to be a private letter too or course.

Its believed to be at the arbitration stage in which both sides can still come out of this with a resolution without the need of a court room but it's expected that if the Premier League fail to approve the sale of the club to Saudi Arabia then we'll end up in the court. It isn't known whether the club also pursuing the same thought that Anti-Competition laws were breached if both Liverpool and Spurs were allowed direct contact with the league during the O&D process. That combined with the project failure that emerged only a few months later could be absolutely damning if it makes it to court.
