Re: PS5 thread
Thanks Ste, I couldn't find it. That looks like it is upside down. It also uses a stand no matter which way you have it stood.
|
Re: PS5 thread
It's interesting but it's growing on me and it's not a boring box for a change.
If they had a black version I would likely go for that though, although I don't think I am buying day one. |
Re: PS5 thread
I'd say the stand comes in the box.
It will look cool in a dark room with the blue glow. |
Re: PS5 thread
Yeah it should, especially since they keep showing the pictures with it. The white doesn't work for me, but it may look better to me if it was black.
|
Re: PS5 thread
I think it looks better vertical not sure it would fit my TV stand, someone will work out the dimensions by the morning.
|
Re: PS5 thread
Looks about the length of 3 discs, based on the disc drive there.
|
Re: PS5 thread
I quite like the colour scheme, but then I like the Xbox one s being two tone and prefer the White ps4.
|
Re: PS5 thread
1 Attachment(s)
Grain of salt needed. I don't think it'll be that much bigger than the Xbox. That makes the Xbox look tiny, which we know it won't be.
|
Re: PS5 thread
I think it's likely the same length as a PS4 Pro.
|
Re: PS5 thread
I'm using my sizes based off the disc drive on the ps5. It looks like it is about 3 disc drives in length which is 14.3inch and the ps4 pro is 13inch.

Estimated height dimensions are 35-36cm! this thing is huge and would have to lie flat on my TV stand!

Re: PS5 thread
Yeah so close to what I guessed based off the drive. It looks better without a drive though. The Pro version will be about the length of the Xbox when that comes out. Oh and the Spiderman game isn't actually a new game. It's an expansion for the PS5 version of Spiderman. Still looks class though.
|
Re: PS5 thread
I know people are lining up the drive slot and usb but I don't think that works out. Especially when you see the controller looks huge compared to the Series X one, in some of the comparisons where the controllers were left in it.

Re: PS5 thread
I worked out roughly how many drives would go across the length of it which is 3, then I looked to see what the length a disc is and multiplied it. That does give an accurate length of it.
---------- Post added at 20:23 ---------- Previous post was at 20:22 ---------- Here it says it's an expansion https://www.ign.com/articles/ps5-spi...ion-not-sequel ---------- Post added at 20:24 ---------- Previous post was at 20:23 ---------- OK they've expanded on it now, earlier it just said it was an expansion. |
Re: PS5 thread
A size comparison, i actually really like the look of the PS5 now in this orientation and it would be great if the white parts are customer swappable.

Re: PS5 thread
I think I prefer the look of the XSX.
|
Re: PS5 thread
I don't like the look of the XSX lying down, but I'm only a one console household so I will have to get used to the PS5, but not planning on buying day one as my Pro is silent and I don't want to start buying £50 games again, my whole digital games purchase over a year is easily less than £100 and would like to keep it that way and still buy great games.
|
Re: PS5 thread
l think apart from the real hard gamers many will wait a while before they start considering whether to purchase a PS5.

And the thought of near instant loading is a huge plus, I gave up trying to play The Witcher 3 because the loading was insane, but with the new consoles especially newer games there won't be loading screens. I will try and refrain from buying to early like I did with my Xbox One, if I had held off I would have come to my senses and got the PS4 far sooner as it was much better, atlleast in my opinion. |
Re: PS5 thread
The XSX so far has better backwards compatibility implementation as well as, the smart download thing. If you buy an X1 game and it get a XSX update then you get that version free.
Don't see Sony doing similar. Only had my 4 Pro 15 months. Had my X1 one since 2014 and the 360 since launch. So for me I'll have a huge Series X catalogue of games, not to mention gamepass. So may stick with my PS4 Pro for a while longer and get the series X at launch. Makes more sense to me. |

I'm sti not sure if that will happen, although I never thought Sony would do an all digital edition of the PS5. So anything is possible I guess.

Re: PS5 thread
I was surprised at the price of the 3D headset to be honest.
Not sure whether to wait till next year for more game choice or sell my ps4 Pro now and buy the digital edition. |
Re: PS5 thread
Just ordered disc version from Amazon it took a while for the page to work properly, these will sell out quickly!
|
Re: PS5 thread
Also got the headset ordered, if I had waited until after work it would not have been possible, first time I have ever pre-ordered a console.
|
Re: PS5 thread
Here are the official PS5 dimensions, not too bad when compared to my PS4 Pro.
PS5: Approx. 390mm x 104mm(without stand) x 260mm (width x height x depth) PS4 Pro: 295mm x 55mm x 327mm (width x height x depth) |

I've preorded it. Might as well gain from the load times and performance.
|
Re: PS5 thread
There is finally a PS5 teardown video, liquid metal, huge heatsink and fan I hope this means quiet console.

Re: PS5 thread
Here it is. You'll need to turn on subtitles.
Also the covers are removable. So probably there will be custom ones produced. |

The thing is since I have mostly been on PlayStation this generation if I got a Series X I would have a lot of games to play on backwards compatibility. On the other hand PS5 had Spider-Man day one so...
|
Re: PS5 thread
I'm wondering what I'm going to do about storage, I currently have 3TB on PS4 do for now I will just plug in my 2TB passport drive for PS4 games.
What are your plans Damien? Stephen are you getting a PS5 at launch? |
Re: PS5 thread
I won't be getting either new console at launch. I will possibly manage to get a series S at Christmas.
Currently PS4 Pro and most of the PS5 launch games I want to play(mainly Spoderman) are coming out for PS4 so will just stick with that for time being then upgrade later next year. Not working atm so not got the cash anyway. Your 3tb drive should hopefully just plug into the PS5 meaning you won't need to redownload games. |
Re: PS5 thread
I'm sorted for the PS5 launch, now got 2 games on order Assassins Creed Valhalla and Spiderman Miles Morales on disc both using a Currys £5 off code.
Really wanted to go digital only but can't yet at these prices! |
Re: PS5 thread
Destruction Allstars delayed until February 2021 where it will move to PS Plus for 2 months, i take that as being free to keep if you download it during those 2 months.

Re: PS5 thread
Well it's out for delivery.....
Going to have to baby it for a while to try and avoid the issues that are getting reported. 1. Turn off rest mode 2. Don't use external HDD 3. Turn off power on control Pray for no coil whine or fan noise! |
Re: PS5 thread
Apparently the update released yesterday sorts out the rest mode issue as well as ext hdd trouble.

I can only hope things are stable for me though without coil whine or noise. Got the free PS5 PSVR adapter this morning, have you ordered yours yet, best to get it while its still free? Console should be hear by 15:30. Edit Just arrived. |
Re: PS5 thread
I've ordered my adaptor. Not arrived yet though.
Well the official release notes don't state anything other than stability foxes. But I've read on a few forums and sites that it's about 865mb and seems to have fixed it for them. |
Re: PS5 thread
The controller is shockingly good and nexgen when trying out Astros Playroom, definitely a game changer compared to other consoles, hoping it doesn't kill the battery though.
Downloading is far faster than on the PS4, a network test reports my max speed of 204mbit which is what I pay for and this is over wireless. |
Re: PS5 thread
Damien how are you getting on with your PS5, any issues and thoughts on Dualsense with Astrobot as I'm still blown away and wish there was more than 2 people on CF with one?
|
Re: PS5 thread
I really liked Astro's Playroom. Amazing game for free and yeah the controller is really good.
For the most part I've been enjoying the fast load times on Spiderman, everything just starts almost instantly. |
Re: PS5 thread

I've had a black screen of death with the console which worried me considering all the reports of issues with crashing, managed to fix that luckily and decided to unplug my external HDD as it is suspected using one may cause random crashes as well as avoiding rest mode for now. |

Re: PS5 thread
My son has finally got his hands on the PS5 he’s been wanting for months. He paid over the odds from an eBay seller which makes my blood boil but it’s his wages and I guess he can afford it while he has no mortgage or other bills, though I dislike rewarding vultures.
Anyway, my question: the box is really noisy at certain times when the unit is working hard. He says there’s a fix detailed on the Sony website that involves opening the casing and removing a sticker from the HDD enclosure. Is this true, and is the procedure recommended and worth the effort? Thank you hive mind :D |

Ah thanks, I’ll let him know. He’s now saying it’s only noisy on boot from cold and removing it from the hollow wooden tv cabinet he put it in is now amplifying the sound a lot less. So hopefully we won’t be needing to take a screwdriver to it ...
