Thanks Ste, I couldn't find it. That looks like it is upside down. It also uses a stand no matter which way you have it stood.

SnoopZ 11-06-2020 22:59

Re: PS5 thread

It's interesting but it's growing on me and it's not a boring box for a change.

If they had a black version I would likely go for that though, although I don't think I am buying day one.

Stephen 11-06-2020 23:05

Re: PS5 thread

I'd say the stand comes in the box.
It will look cool in a dark room with the blue glow.

cimt 11-06-2020 23:10

Re: PS5 thread

Yeah it should, especially since they keep showing the pictures with it. The white doesn't work for me, but it may look better to me if it was black.

SnoopZ 11-06-2020 23:16

Re: PS5 thread

I think it looks better vertical not sure it would fit my TV stand, someone will work out the dimensions by the morning.

cimt 11-06-2020 23:23

Re: PS5 thread

Looks about the length of 3 discs, based on the disc drive there.

Stephen 12-06-2020 01:29

Re: PS5 thread

I quite like the colour scheme, but then I like the Xbox one s being two tone and prefer the White ps4.

Grain of salt needed. I don't think it'll be that much bigger than the Xbox. That makes the Xbox look tiny, which we know it won't be.

Stephen 12-06-2020 02:31

Re: PS5 thread

I think it's likely the same length as a PS4 Pro.

cimt 12-06-2020 02:57

Re: PS5 thread

I'm using my sizes based off the disc drive on the ps5. It looks like it is about 3 disc drives in length which is 14.3inch and the ps4 pro is 13inch.

If these are to scale designs then that is the real size difference, look at the disc drive

Re: PS5 thread

Yeah so close to what I guessed based off the drive. It looks better without a drive though. The Pro version will be about the length of the Xbox when that comes out. Oh and the Spiderman game isn't actually a new game. It's an expansion for the PS5 version of Spiderman. Still looks class though.

Stephen 12-06-2020 20:22

Re: PS5 thread

I know people are lining up the drive slot and usb but I don't think that works out. Especially when you see the controller looks huge compared to the Series X one, in some of the comparisons where the controllers were left in it.

Where did you read it was an expansion? It's a separate game. IE you don't need the other game.

cimt 12-06-2020 20:24

Re: PS5 thread

I worked out roughly how many drives would go across the length of it which is 3, then I looked to see what the length a disc is and multiplied it. That does give an accurate length of it.

---------- Post added at 20:23 ---------- Previous post was at 20:22 ----------

Here it says it's an expansion

OK they've expanded on it now, earlier it just said it was an expansion.

A size comparison, i actually really like the look of the PS5 now in this orientation and it would be great if the white parts are customer swappable.

SnoopZ 18-06-2020 09:14

Re: PS5 thread

I don't like the look of the XSX lying down, but I'm only a one console household so I will have to get used to the PS5, but not planning on buying day one as my Pro is silent and I don't want to start buying £50 games again, my whole digital games purchase over a year is easily less than £100 and would like to keep it that way and still buy great games.

Possibly but we have to remember these new consoles are backwards compatible with the previous generation, some people will still be using day one ps4s and Xbox One's so they may feel it's time for an upgrade.

And the thought of near instant loading is a huge plus, I gave up trying to play The Witcher 3 because the loading was insane, but with the new consoles especially newer games there won't be loading screens.

I will try and refrain from buying to early like I did with my Xbox One, if I had held off I would have come to my senses and got the PS4 far sooner as it was much better, atlleast in my opinion.

Stephen 18-06-2020 11:16

Re: PS5 thread

The XSX so far has better backwards compatibility implementation as well as, the smart download thing. If you buy an X1 game and it get a XSX update then you get that version free.

Don't see Sony doing similar. Only had my 4 Pro 15 months. Had my X1 one since 2014 and the 360 since launch.

So for me I'll have a huge Series X catalogue of games, not to mention gamepass.

So may stick with my PS4 Pro for a while longer and get the series X at launch. Makes more sense to me.

No I'm getting disc version even if I don't use it.

I don't want to order from Game or Smyth's so waiting for Amazon but will have to give up tonight as work at 6am!

Here are the official PS5 dimensions, not too bad when compared to my PS4 Pro.

That had been my plan, but in the end the thought of no long load times got the better of me and i didn't want to wait another year or so.

If they ever bring out a slim version of the PS5 or a PS5 Pro i will also likely upgrade to it and hope its a little smaller.

Thinking about Assassin's Creed Valhalla as I love those games and enjoy chasing the platinum so can get 100+ hours out of it easily.

However I will probably reluctantly buy on disc seeing so expensive, I'm used to paying £$15 max on the digital stores and getting bargains in the sales.

I'm wondering what I'm going to do about storage, I currently have 3TB on PS4 do for now I will just plug in my 2TB passport drive for PS4 games.

What are your plans Damien?

Stephen are you getting a PS5 at launch?

Stephen 17-10-2020 22:13

Re: PS5 thread

I won't be getting either new console at launch. I will possibly manage to get a series S at Christmas.

Currently PS4 Pro and most of the PS5 launch games I want to play(mainly Spoderman) are coming out for PS4 so will just stick with that for time being then upgrade later next year. Not working atm so not got the cash anyway.

Your 3tb drive should hopefully just plug into the PS5 meaning you won't need to redownload games.

Where did you read that as i haven't seen any confirmation about that yet, is it official as Sony has said nothing as far as i am aware.

I can only hope things are stable for me though without coil whine or noise.

The controller is shockingly good and nexgen when trying out Astros Playroom, definitely a game changer compared to other consoles, hoping it doesn't kill the battery though.

Downloading is far faster than on the PS4, a network test reports my max speed of 204mbit which is what I pay for and this is over wireless.

Platinumed Astrobot now playing Valhalla then maybe Spider-Man but these games take me weeks playing when trying to platinum and then there are the 20 free PS4 games to try although I already have 13 of those.

I've had a black screen of death with the console which worried me considering all the reports of issues with crashing, managed to fix that luckily and decided to unplug my external HDD as it is suspected using one may cause random crashes as well as avoiding rest mode for now.

Have been adding the PS5 games to my library so they are there when I eventually upgrade.

4K oled is first on my purchase list. My 40th coming up so hoping I'll have plenty to get the LG 55inch CX oled.

Yes the LG C9 or CX are the go to TVs, if i was buying one though i would have to take the CX 48in, my only worry is they do suffer from burn in so not sure i would want to take the risk and just stick to the latest LCD technology whatever that is.

Anyway my 49KS9000 would need to die before any of that happens. :)

My son has finally got his hands on the PS5 he’s been wanting for months. He paid over the odds from an eBay seller which makes my blood boil but it’s his wages and I guess he can afford it while he has no mortgage or other bills, though I dislike rewarding vultures.

Anyway, my question: the box is really noisy at certain times when the unit is working hard. He says there’s a fix detailed on the Sony website that involves opening the casing and removing a sticker from the HDD enclosure. Is this true, and is the procedure recommended and worth the effort?

Thank you hive mind :D

Thing is the 48 is currently about the same price as the 55. Lol. It takes years for that to happen though.

I don't have room for anything large than a 49 which is in the corner, it sucks the 48 is never cheaper though.

I've read 1 person had this issue and they found a sticker was the cause, but on the fan.

Btw the PS5 doesn't have an HDD it's an NVMe which is part of the motherboard.

I can't recommend a fix as mines completely silent so haven't looked into it.

Ah thanks, I’ll let him know. He’s now saying it’s only noisy on boot from cold and removing it from the hollow wooden tv cabinet he put it in is now amplifying the sound a lot less. So hopefully we won’t be needing to take a screwdriver to it ...

Not a bad selection. By the time I get a PS5 I'll have a decent collection of games built up to play.

It'll probably take you until the end of the year to add one to your shopping cart online.
