I've not seen the first series yet, but those that have say that it should have ended there and that the second series is no good, too convoluted and only made because the first series was such a success.

quite an impressive conclusion considering only one episode has aired. Can they see into the future?

really? it carried on straight from where season 1 finished with the same characters and same story

nope, the producers went into it with a 5 season story arc so they knew they could tell a well paced and consistent quality story throughout the entire series rather than just rehashing the same story each season in the event it got renewed.

As this is the Film & Cinema thread I should imagine Stephen was referring to the film Westworld starring Yul Brenner.

ya but we are talking about reboots and remakes and the only new Westworld around is the tv series hence why I was referring to it in the previous dudes post who talking about season 2 being rubbish.

Exactly what i thought. The only Robin Hood i see in it is the name in the title. They have really screwed up because even the city and landscape look too elaborate for the time period.

It may be set in a different time period. They did that with the last King Arthur movie.

looks great, it has been ages since we had a Predator or AVP film

Stephen 10-05-2018 20:37

Re: Films to see in 2018

I think it looks pretty terrible.

All we want is a film similar to the first Predator movie.

This has genetics and mutations and them trying to make a super predator. What's all that about?

This should have probably stayed in development hell.

General Maximus 10-05-2018 20:44

Re: Films to see in 2018

I am happy to give it a chance story wise. The only 2 things which are going to bug me is if the gimps have come up with the genetics and mutation story line so they think they can be creative "and change it up and do some new and refreshing" and if it is what I call too "micro world" where we see the same small group of people trapped in one building "lab" where it all goes wrong. For things to be real I need to see more of the world they live in and more people to make it believable.

Stephen 10-05-2018 21:31

Re: Films to see in 2018

Well I think the first part of your post is correct. Genetics for thinking it's different.

Just give us a Predator hunting a group of people. Keep it simple.

General Maximus 10-05-2018 22:03

Re: Films to see in 2018

Exactly, i am sick and tired of writers or studios trying to come up with whappy reasons to make something diffetent. It has been so long since we had a predator movie that i would gladly go for the run of the mill formula. If the ship is going to crash in rural america as per the trailer i think it would be fun to see it in somewhere like Texas and the locals banding together with their arsenal of weapons and try to survive.

Stephen 10-05-2018 22:16

Re: Films to see in 2018

Definitely not going to be an Infinity war style rush for it. Got that feeling its actually going to drop off a bit compared to the first. Infinity war is just an absolute killer at the moment, Deadpool should've considered pushing back to summer.

Stephen 15-05-2018 21:47

I would say it will do very well. The first took a tonne of cash at the box office and by all accounts this is better in almost every way.

It does, but... didn't we have a Jungle Book a year or two ago, why can't they start making new original stuff instead of rehashing old stuff over and over and over.

I think this looks a million times better than the teaser we saw a couple of months ago and I am going to enjoy more for the realism factor like aliens. Any survival/horror scenario is pretty pointless if the "huntees" aren't able to defend themselves so the fact that we have got trained military guys with some beefy weapons is going to make it interesting.

Looks like an interesting watch that would have benefited more if it could stand on it's own because undoubtedly it'll fall victim to the new cliche ''Un-original reboot'' and be panned. Regardless, looks way better than the last few.

General Maximus 30-06-2018 19:31

Re: Films to see in 2018

I am not sure if it is supposed to be a reboot because I got the impression from the trailer that it is somehow going to link in to 2010's Predators due to the fact that we appear to have two factions/classes of predator again and one clearly being the dominant alpha.

techguyone 30-06-2018 19:41

The first film with Arnie was the best by a mile and every one since has come nowhere near that IMO

Really? 4 out of the 10 were nominated for Oscars in 2018!
(not that the oscars are a sign of quality)

1 had a Grand Prix prize at the Cannes film festival.
Another got best actor (Joaquin Phoenix) at Cannes

Not so sure they are obscure.

Yes, really. :)

The oscars are a total waste of space that I avoid, just film buddys patting each other on the back, usually sticking their noses up at films the public love. Cannes is pretty much all obscure films.

Damien 19-07-2018 10:23

Re: Films to see in 2018

The film festivals such as Cannes pretty much exist to give prominence to smaller, less-funded, independent film. For the most part, almost by definition, the massively popular films are blockbusters that don't need that attention. It's normal that general public awareness of who won what at Cannes is low.

If they don't get a general release I think they can be classified as obscure. There are a number on there which weren't going to be shown at a Cineworld multiplex for example. How many people pay attention to film festivals or the industry at large?

Ah right. Well if your general thinking is that anything that is not in a Cineworld cinema is obscure, then yes 99% of movies in the world are going to be obscure, including those released on the likes of Netflix and Amazon.

Damien 19-07-2018 19:39

Re: Films to see in 2018

I do think films that don’t get a general release can be seen as relatively obscure. A lot of the country don’t have access to a cinema that shows indie films and you have to be a buff to go venturing for certain films.

It’s also why the oscars can help since outside of the Marvel/Star Wars lot then some films need that exposure to get attention. Three Billboards would have struggled without the Oscar buzz

Re: Films to see in 2018

The cgi looks cack and completely like the old 60s tv series where the actors would pretend to be freezing cold and they put snow coming down in front of the camera lense. I dont know whether it is the same company that did Lustice League but it just doesnt look right; it is too shiny and polished. I dont know how to explain it technicalky but the marvel stuff, especially Infinity War, looks more grounded and the colour tones match. For me when you watch DC stuff the cgi stands out like a sore like watching a 90s tv series where they tried but you knew it just wasnt real. If i cant believe it is real and immerse myself in it, it hits my "realism" radar and spoils the film for me.

This was always going to annoy me anyway because even if it is the best film ever it still should have been made before Justice League.

Stephen 28-11-2018 23:14

Re: Films to see in 2018

I think it looks pretty good and I guess lots of underwater action is hard to do in a realistic way.

Thanks for your review General as your analysis is interesting.

DC need to take pointers from Marvel, I watched Suicide Squad again the other day, and the film is ok, but... you just wish that they'd done a marvel, got the characters in a stand alone film each first where possible, so you had some depth of feeling for the characters. Which pretty much sums up DC films, you just don't care much.

this is the best one they have done this year I think. I know it couldn't be helped but they haven't been as good since Andy Signore left.

and thing which I don't understand is how they manage to get it so wrong every time. They have had many years to plan, many attempts, plenty of examples from Marvel and the only good film to come out of it is Wonder Woman.
I am wondering what Suicide Squad 2 is going to be like, especially if James Gunn ends up directing it. I wasn't going to watch it at all but if he does I will and that is obviously what DC are planning on.
