Does look promising and I think gives a good indication of the new directors look and feel for the movie. Can't wait.....but I'll have to lol.

Re: Films to see in 2017

A bit of a teaser for you. I have just been looking to see if there are any new trailers available to post and saw this one. It is down for 20th October release and if the full trailer looks any good we will have to add it to the main list. I love these kind of disaster movies, they make for great cinema viewing and I am encouraged by the fact that Gerard Butler and Ed Harris are in it. Proper trailer follows later.

Quote:

When catastrophic climate change endangers Earth's very survival, world governments unite and create the Dutch Boy Program: a world wide net of satellites, surrounding the planet, that are armed with geoengineering technologies designed to stave off the natural disasters. After successfully protecting the planet for two years, something is starting to go wrong. Two estranged brothers are tasked with solving the program's malfunction before a world wide Geostorm can engulf the planet.

It does look good. I quite liked the original (2003) trilogy, and am baffled why they made a miserable remake for a further 2 films less than 10 yrs later. This at least, has proper tie ins with the Avengers, I'm optimistic.

FAST & Furious is one of the biggest film franchises ever created – with the seventh movie raking in £1.2billion.

And bosses must clearly believe the best way to blow that total to smithereens is by making the eighth instalment into one of the most ridiculous action movies of all time.

Vin Diesel returns for the eighth instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise
The film may top the box office, but it won’t win any Oscars

The blockbuster petrolhead flick, out today, is littered with far-fetched scenes — including DWAYNE “THE ROCK” JOHNSON palming off a nuclear missile with his bare hand.

Fast and Furious veteran VIN DIESEL drives his car on to an aeroplane — mid-flight — and later survives a nuclear explosion simply by ducking behind two cars.

Just don't confuse it with high art/drama, it's a simple disengage brain, munch popcorn, have a laugh franchise - taken on that basis, it's pretty good.

Re: Films to see in 2017

Only ticked 3 off so far. xXx, Resident Evil and Logan.

Its not the rating thread ofc but honestly both xXx and Resident Evil were mediocre at best. xXx was just pants up until the final third, The inclusion of Neymar was just absurd and added nothing at all.

Resident Evil was just underwhelming for what'll be the final of that franchise version. I'm almost certain there's going to be a much better true to source reboot on the way.

Logan was enjoyable, as are all X-Men releases to be fair. The whole film is one gigantic continuity hole with plot holes laying in the open but that's just something else, we can just pretend it's not there.

Note: Avoided posting spoilers deliberately as people will still use this thread as a guide for releases and stuff they've missed. Just Incase anyone replies with 'Well the part where 'person' does this'

Origins and standalone movies tend to be far better than the crossover movie IMO. Winter Soldier being an example in which it was easily far better than Age of Ultron. The Flash will be harder to swing given it's already highly successful TV adaptation.

I think a few have the chance to be good solo films away from the Justice League, assuming it's another JL mess. Batman has the potential, WW looks good as we can see above. Man of Steel was fairly good. Can see where I'm going with this. Sometimes a single actor/character can prop up and entire franchise, see Wolverine/Hugh Jackman

Zack Snyder has left the Justice League film after the death of his daughter. Don't think the circumstances matter, it's tragic for him either way.

Joss Whedon (Marvel) has stepped in to finish the movie. The man that directs the direct competitor movie is directing both as of now. Dont think anyone could complain given the reasons. It's nice to see a quick agreement was reached.

really really bizarre, you have thought there would have been a competitors clause in his contract that prevents him from doing any work with DC whilst his is actively engaged in Marvel projects.

I'll say it now though, if Justice League turns out to be good, it is going to be because of Joss Whedon. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes in and wants to change a tonne of stuff and DC let him.

adzii_nufc 23-05-2017 13:20

Re: Films to see in 2017

Yeah doubt any studio would think about blockading something like this. Its helping out someone in need. I can imagine Christopher Nolan would be the only other person in the running.

Don't think anything will be changed our of respect. He's merely finishing a movie already scripted.

Its nice to see when tragedy strikes you can put money and contractual agreements to one side and just help.

I read that there are some re-shoots scheduled for the next month which Joss Whedon will be in charge of however WB have made it crystal clear that they will be kept to the same style and tone that Zack Snyder had intended.

It looks entertaining, which is one of the things I want from any film.

General Maximus 05-06-2017 11:56

Re: Films to see in 2017

yeah I wanted to check on that. I was looking at my list yesterday because I thought I had put The Dark Tower on it and I hadn't so I was looking to see when it was coming out. There are some very good films coming out this month (Wonder Woman, The Mummy, Kingsman, Transformers) and I had Word War Z in the middle of that but haven't heard anything about it so I assumed it had been put back for whatever reason. Shame because it would have added to an excellent month of summer movies with something a bit different.

As an fyi, tickets are available for pre-booking for a midnight premiere of Transformers and I am expecting Spiderman to become available when they update the showing times tomorrow evening.

At least, the director has dropped out and they haven't found a new one. Tbh by the time they get everyone on board again, get the pre-production stuff sorted out, principle photography and then the special effects etc it is going to be 2019. Even if they started right now there is no way they are going to get all that done in 1 year ready for release next summer.

sure does, we have had a cracking year this year with Guardians, Spiderman (5th July, tickets available now) and Thor (27th October) and next year is going to be just as good. We have got:

Black Panther: 16th February
Avengers: Infinity War: 4th May
Ant-man and the Wasp: 6th July

In 2019 we'll have Captain Marvel, Avengers 4 and Spiderman 2. I love having three films spaced out throughout the year keeping the story and MCU going.

I love stuff like this because it tells you the "unknown" story around something which you grew up with and has had such a profound impact on what I imagine is billions of peoples lives over the years. I am pleased to report that I have seen every film on my list this year. I am pretty much the same as you minus Pirates of the Caribbean. You have missed out big time with Blade Runner. I strongly strongly suggest you keep your eyes peeled for it coming back at the cinema. I don't know about cineworld but Odeon do this thing called "silver screen" where about 4 months after a film has been on they bring it back for a few days and you can go and see it for £3. If you get the chance to see it at the cinema you really should, it is amazing and in my top 3 films for this year.
