Great for Wales, don't mean to undermine them at all but Russia are absolutely naff. Russian football is in an absolute state. Embarrasing performance over three games and they've got the world cup in two years. Reputation really because I think Wales are better on paper and on the pitch.

Feel England will still win but Slovakia have offered more than our previous two early on and I feel were suffering from having Rooney on the bench and not dictating the game.

I still think England would play better against bigger teams. England are dominating games but the scorelines are failing to reflect that. I just think tonight we're a bit more open for them to hit back at us. I think Rooney offers more than Wilshere.

As good as they are for their clubs I honestly don't think Lallana, Henderson or Wilshere should be starting.

denphone 20-06-2016 21:39

Re: Euro 2016 thread

Wilshere is vastly over-rated in my opinion while Lallana is a fair-weather player and Henderson is just plain ordinary and why is he taking the corners and free kicks as well..

Re: Euro 2016 thread

Simply playing the price for a questionable line up. Wilshere and Henderson have been hopeless and its a half of football too late to bring Rooney on. Harry Kane is having a tournament to forget so far. For all the domination, 1 shot on target is shocking.

Its also worth pointing out England are yet to play a team that aren't just content on playing inside their own box. Still a lot tonsee when we play a team that hasn't claimed squatters rights on one end of the pitch.

Who could England face?

Finishing as Group B runners-up, England will now face the second-placed team in Group F in Nice on Monday (20:00 BST).

That could well be Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal - who knocked England out of consecutive tournaments, at Euro 2004 and at the 2006 World Cup.

However, Austria, Hungary and Iceland can all still finish second - with Group F's final matches to be played on Wednesday.

I honestly thought that l was watching a Sunday league game. We were shocking. We had TWO shots on target - Alli, who had just come on and Vardy.

I honestly cannot believe what Hodgson is doing. Its true on ITV, they were saying why change the back four.

In the game, you have to have a settled team, you pick your team and that's it. You dont change it.

Hodgson said that he made the changes, as he had a big squad. How stupid.

The fans got that bored, they were calling for Rooney, he came on a did nothing.

Every ball was going over the bar, And then at the end there were boo's.

We are going to face tougher teams if we go further. I think that Wales are going to do well in the Euros. And good luck to them. England, sorry the sooner they come home the better.

I think Rooney has been England's best player. I notice you failed to mention England's worst player thus far over 3 games which from an outfield view would have to be Harry Kane.

Tonight they didn't have Rooney to supply and suffered in my opinion and failed to create those chances. With Rooney on in the previous games, Harry Kane was so one dimensional it was impossible to put him on the end of anything. That forced the change against Wales and to no surprise both Sturridgrle and Vardy were in and about the area.

Its simple stuff. Rooney starts with Sturridge and Vardy. I like Kane. He's a great striker but hes had about 4 halves of football roughly and he's never looked like producing anything. He's never in the right place for a chance and he never looks like creating his own.

Rooney can take and create chances from anywhere. He did against Russia bar a quite brilliant save and again bar defender blocks and whatnot his shots are generally on target. Add that to two agile and mobile targets in Vardy and Sturridge and I feel you're offered better options than just playing Kane in the middle alone.

Who knows though. Kane hasn't had that chance to play alongside a second finisher. Maybe he's just isolated. I've always hated one striker lineups.

I think these lads would suit playing against better teams. Having that underdog feeling spurring them on. At the minute there's really no team that's scaring me. Give us Portugal, in their state I bet England flatten them.

Adzi, the whole team were poor. I cannot believe that l was watching a FULL INTERNAIONAL of top quality players to wear an England shirt.

When you ply in competitions, you play a MAIN squad, don't keep changing, that why they play friendlies. And Kane was terrible.

You play a settled team, and that's when you get results.

Ian Wright, when he said, WHY changed the Back four. Either Hodgson has lost the plot, or the team are picking themselves.

Just look at Hodgson when the team are playing badly, he just sits on the bench. He shoul be standing in the tech area. Barking out orders.

I can see the next side we meet will demolish us.

Even the main papers in London were saying that we were Second rate. Did you see the look Rooney gave Hodgson, when he came off the pitch. That to me says it all.

I dont disagree with the Slovakia game at all. See my earlier comments regarding Wilshere and Henderson. Both players offered absolutely nothing to the front two players. Id like to think we had depth but its pretty clear the midfield is set in stone from here on in and just can't be changed. We merely underestimated Slovakia's resolve and assumed we could rest a few lads which ultimately cost us the top position. As a whole I think we have a lot more to offer but mistakes can not and will not be rectified from now on. If we mess up we go home.

I think we could hold our own against teams considered better but my worries lie solely on the ability to get that crucial goal and whether Joe Hart can settle himself. Something about Hart has typical England cock up written on it.

Regarding Kane, he's been awful but as I said above there is a but in there. That 'but' being he's the only one to never start with a second striker. Maybe he's just finding himself isolated and again im against one striker line ups.

So with all that being said I'm solely concerned about how long its taking to get settled in. With Rooney, Sturridge and Vardy starting there's going to be no excuse for Hodgson anymore. I disagree with those once again suggesting we write this off and let him build. They said that at the world cup.. To build for this Euros. Its do or die for Roy. Otherwise his heads as good as gone.

There's no standout sides. The big boys either look like us or are playing worse. Spain look like absolute crap at times and crumble every time you push them. Germany are playing a lot like us. Lots of controlling but minimal end product. Portugal were DOA bar some miracle in the last 16. Now we have confirmed one of Italy or Spain won't be going to the last 16. If Spain aren't careful they could find their dodgy defence turned over. Check out their possession vs Croatia against Croatia's shots... Spain are going to be punished further if they continue like that.

I don't really care who wins the Euros to be fair so long as they win it with better football than the stuff that's been shown so far.

Group stages are closing though. All this could mean nothing come the next round if teams get their heads down.

The media hyping up playing Portugal like its a monumental task. They've just conceded 3 to Hungary... They've finished second on 3 points and in fairness bar some Ronaldo magic they've been absolutely awful and about on par with Russia for the worst team in the tournament. The fact they only have three points to show for that group.

Bar Ronaldo, England should be hammering this Portugal side.

Two points make. A sore point, from a spoilt little brat in Ronaldo. An reporter upset him, so he threw his microphone into the point. Just because he didn't get his own way in the Portugal game.

Second point and the best point. I hope England were watching a excellent ROI game. It was blood sweat and sweat. All though. Even l jumped up when they scored. Brilliant game for the Irish.

Just wish England had the heart to know how to fight for the ball, and how to score superb goals.

Well done ROI.

I don't mind frustration responses from players. I like to think it confirms they actually care that either them or their team have been crap rather than answering with a massive grin and a boat load of positives despite being hammered... Example in question, Steve McClaren.

I'd be annoyed if I was Ronaldo, its all on his shoulders, Portugal are pants.

This brings up an earlier point. There truly is no stand out team here. They're all playing like absolute crap at times. I don't think there's a single team without problems.

Back to Portugal and its a case of they're going out with performances like that. 3 goals to Hungary. What more needs said?

1 England manager

players with passion to win, NOT run around like over priced headless chickens.

Re: Euro 2016 thread

Harry Kane is on a 0/10 for the entire tournament. I'm really struggling to find a worse set of performances for England. Joe Hart is down there with him. Rooney absolutely fell apart in this game. The defence looked dismal at every Iceland attack.

Actually someone please find me a worse England performance at a major tournament.

England are still England then. Would love to know how Roy Hodgson was ever appointed manager of England. Not even Russia would bother..

Does this mean the Cod Wars will kick off again? Iceland won those as well, but we've a chance at war...

Gareth Bale was right about England players No pride, no passion just worried about their agents/ next premiership contract.

I rest my case.

Just cos you play for a so called big club gives you no divine right to an England place.

I'm mostly Welsh anyway :)

Re: Euro 2016 thread

England have played well when they've been underdogs. We've seen how they play when they're expected to win.

Let's hope we get a fair share of gold in Rio by some real passionate home talent.

I'm just absolutely gobsmacked with how bad some players were. Kane.. Having to question your keeper 3 times in 4 games? Rooney on the most important game lost the ball countless times and passed into nothingness.

Then as above, there's Hodgson. A different team every game? He's an absolute madman and one has to question how desperate you are to have Harry Redknapp, Roy Hodgson and Alan Pardew leading the job list.

I have no idea where England go from here. No manager could fix this crap.

Good luck to the Welsh as they deserve everything they get.

Re: Euro 2016 thread

Roy Hodgson tonight or tomorrow. Just get it done please. Backed Rooney for every game this tournament and even the first half of that. I'd love to see how he explains that second half. As in another thread. How can people think Rooney shouldn't be in the England squad? That 45 minutes of football answered that pretty solidly. Don't let Rooney be a scapegoat for Kane and Hart though.

England were a disgrace. Hodgson should be sacked tonight.
We had no passion, Rooney, Kane were terrible. What really amazed me how they hell did he wait so long to put Rashford on. The last five minutes.

I congratulate Iceland for showing up the England players, that are supposed to be top quality players, who were shown for what they are - total Rubbish.

The question is who would want to become the England manager.

Come a bit more closer to home Arthur. No manager with any credibility is going to want the England Job. Its the Newcastle job of International football.

Annoyed that he even got the chance to quit. Lewington and Neville can bugger off too. Two tournaments and a shocker at Valencia.. Back down to earth.

Well done Iceland, you deserved it on the day.

Worst England performance I've seen for a long long while, utterly hopeless - and yet more calamity goal keeping.

Just shocking.

In fact, I'm going to start a petition, that result was not what we expected, or voted for ....

Think England took the Leave vote too seriously....

What about Southgate or Pardew for the job.....
