Yes.

For those unfamiliar with theatrical terminology, "Striking a set" means to dismantle the scenery. If they were stopped from doing that, then the set must be needed for...something.

Amazon Studios is in talks to revive one of CEO Jeff Bezos' favorite properties.
The retailer and streaming outlet is near a deal to revive the space drama The Expanse for a fourth season just 10 days after Syfy canceled the series. Amazon Studios declined comment as sources note the deal is not closed.
Syfy had only first-run linear rights in the U.S. to The Expanse, which was based on James S. A. Corey's best-selling book series of the same name and starred Steven Strait. Amazon Studios had streaming rights to the first three seasons of the show. Sources say Bezos is a big fan of the book and was livid that the TV series went to NBCUniversal-owned Syfy. The move is said to have ignited Bezos' demand that Amazon Studios brass find the company's version of Game of Thrones.
this is exactly the kind of thing you need to happen; a fan with the power and money to come along and save it.

'The Expanse' Officially Revived for Season 4 at Amazon

CEO Jeff Bezos made the announcement Friday at a conference with the cast and creators that the deal has closed to bring the Syfy drama to the retailer/streamer for season four.

It's official: Amazon Studios has closed a deal for season four of former Syfy drama The Expanse.

CEO Jeff Bezos, whom is a massive fan of the books the drama is based on, made the announcement Friday at a panel at the National Space Society with the cast and crew in Los Angeles. "I just got word that The Expanse was saved," Bezos told the packed ballroom.

Why did Amazon save The Expanse? Recently, studio head Jennifer Salke spoke with Deadline about the streaming service’s decision to pick up the cancelled Syfy TV show.
As reported earlier, Amazon has greenlit a fourth season of the sci-fi drama, which explores a vast conspiracy 200 years in the future.
Speaking to Deadline, Salke says Amazon picked up The Expanse because of the show’s fans:

“There were airplanes circling us, I was having cakes delivered, there was a whole thing happening. And then really smart people, whose opinions I really value creatively, started reaching out to me, saying, “have you seen this show, The Expanse, it’s actually great”. I hadn’t so I spent some time, I watched the show and I was like, this show is actually really well done, why is nobody watching it? At the same time, Jeff Bezos was getting emails from everyone from George R.R. Martin to every captain of industry, like the founder of Craigslist, and they were all writing, saying, there’s this show, it’s so great, you have to see it, you have to buy it or save it.”
I love it when stuff like this happens and her job is exactly the kind of job I would love to have and will do when I win the euromillions. You need people who appreciate quality in a powerful position who can say "yes". I love the fact that the article was all about fan appreciate and and the quality of the show and no business talk about analysis of ratings and all that rubbish.

Re: The Expanse

I did pick it back up and have now caught up. Will watch 12-13 soon. Is an interesting watch. Trying to think if it's the only space sci-fi focused show I've ever watched. I only ever watched the JJ Star Trek movies and not the TV shows. Never bothered with SG or BSG and my ventures into Sci-fi shows stuck around X-Files, Fringe or Person of Interest. I've not picked up Star Trek discovery and I'm unsure if I ever will.

With all that being said I guess my viewership and many others like me watching The Expanse really shows its worth.

Wonder when more details about the Prime renewal will show up. Just a few FAQ's needed of course :D

Will it be available instantly in 4K/UHD (I know earlier episodes are available)
Will it release simultaneously worldwide.
What happens to the existing deal with Netflix.

If earlier episodes are available in 4K/UHD there's no reason why the rest won't be.

Amazon normally do worldwide release when they have the the full rights which the have for The Expanse from season 4 onward.

Netflix still retain the rights for the first 3 seasons and nothing else.

We have learned some exciting news for The Expanse fans! Amazon has decided to renew the sci-fi series for a sixth season. This decision has been made before season 5 has even premiered.

yup, and it is nearly over already  You can definitely tell the difference. They have gone back to the tone and feel of season 1 and 2 and it has the added benefit of the increased production budget from Amazon. It is those lovely little touches like them drinking the bubbles of floating water that do it for my realism factor. I am just wondering how far along the filming process the decision was made and how last minute it was. It might have been the only option they had left.

I wish there were more eps, this season was fantastic and like GoT you feel like you are just getting into it and it is over. I wish it could be renewed for 9 seasons or wherever they are up to in the books. I would happily give up all the other tv series I watch if it meant The Expanse could keep going.

Paul 09-02-2021 02:46

Re: The Expanse

It seems the change had to be made after main filming had been completed, so I guess they must have filmed a few extra little bits to squeeze in.

Season 6 will consist of 10 episodes (again) and it is currently filming.

One of the possible reasons noted for ending after season 6 is a time jump in the books they are based off.

Apparently there is a 28 year jump from book 6 to book 7 (each season has loosly been based on the corresponding book) meaning they would have to age everyone almost 30 years, recast it completely, or totally deviate from the books. I guess Amazon didnt fancy any of those choices.

cimt 09-02-2021 12:29

Re: The Expanse

I've been told book 6 does actually work as an ending so I'll take that.

With Alex though, it would of been nice to see him collapse to the floor or something rather than just dying in his chair.

BTW the finale is just short of 65 mins long. Don't know how long other eps will be but streaming services can give longer eps (eg 60 mins as oppsed to 45 mins) so the final 6 episode could potentially give (no ad break) the equivalent of an 8 episode series.

I am tempted to wait till it has finished and watch all 6 in one go.

I would imagine that it would be very hard to avoid all talk and spoilers for 6 weeks.

Only Episode 1, just to be clear. :)

Yes, thefirst 5 are 45min episodes as well so just under 5hrs for season 6. There is talk of mini episodes inbetween as well, don't know if true though.

Bonus content available via Pirme Video X-Ray.

Well, Ive watched the final episode tonight.

Im still confused about the story on that planet with the little girl, and her brother.
Its basically gone nowhere, and has no relevance to the rest of the seasons events.
Its like they had a plan, then just gave up on it, leaving her (last seen) running in a forest ...

Felt way too rushed. It feels like they wrote it and then the show got cancelled and they didn't bother changing any of it. There is some special episodes on X-Ray that expand on certain bits, so it could be on that but I don't know, I haven't watched them.

Just watched the last episode, and really liked it - I think they’ve set it up so there can be follow-ons; the girl and her brother, for instance (they’re from the novella "Strange Dogs"), and Duarte on the same planet.

I loved the SF Easter Eggs in this episode, especially the troopers names behind Bobbie.

Spoiler:
Ripley, Idaho, Hicks (& Vasquez and Hudson) Bowman, Ackbar, Nesmith, Thrace, Riker, Deckard, Quaid, and quite a few more).

I read the first five books (when they came out) - it’s been a while, so I’m going to read them all again, then the final four (and the novellas).

The girl and the brother just seemed completely random, and made so sense.
Apparently you have to have read the books to know what that was all about.

I watched all 6 episodes today and all I can say is what a superb season and what a superb season. Such a damn shame it has been cancelled, I would love to see more. Although we have been blessed with such a phenomenally rich and immersive story so far, it feels as if there is so much more to tell.
