Currently there is no HD variant of BIKE channel in the UK, this does not mean that there won't ever be one though but nothing has been mentioned yet about HD.
Also BIKE is just a temporay name it is expected to change it's name as it gets rights to more sport, Brazilian football has been rumoured along with show jumping, motorcross, skiing and squah, these are just rumours though at this moment in time.

Apparently, EPG listings on Extreme Sport resume from 11/1/16. Can someone check what these listings are?

I don't have access to a VM box at the moment and am wondering if Bike will take over the old Extreme Sports EPG slot, albeit using a different frequency.

The listings are said to resemble Extreme Sports programming, but labelled " new"

Are VM planning on bringing us the overseas version of Extreme Sports to replace the defunct UK version??

Is this Bike (they did say that they would be showing some former Extreme Sports programmes)??

looks like BT may be working on another new channel.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...oadcaster.html

"Best's shock exit is understood to follow a major disagreement with the way the network, which has built up an impressive portfolio of sports rights in a short period, were planning their future. This is believed to centre on developing a rival to Sky One rather than concentrating all their resources on sport."

Sometimes - not always - such rumours can be a case of circular reporting ie one person interprets a news story and suggests it might happen. Someone on another forum says that they've seen a rumour and then another forum says that they've read it in several places. :)

Music On Demand news for non TiVo customers.

Info from 'Customer News'

From January 12th Music on Demand will no longer be available to Virgin TV customers with TV M+ and TV L packages. TV XL package customers will still be able to access Music on Demand from their Red Button on Channel 300 or via on Demand.

Alternatively, all Virgin Media customers with TiVo service can access our new and improved Music on Demand service Vevo from January 12th.

- Company was looking to raise another £5m. This investment would put the company on the road to profitability for year ending March 2017
If not, its Plan B was to "generate steady income based on providing content at a sustainable cost".
- The company's auditors say that there is material uncertainty which may cast doubt on the company's ability to continue as a going concern.
https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/c...filing-history

The recent move onto Freeview seems to suggest that the company got a cash injection enabling it to expand but there are no filings at Companies House to support this. However, I can't see Freeview making a significant difference to its revenue.
Talk of overseas expansion seems to have ended.

Looks like Box Nation may be on the way out.

If not, I bet that the HD variant won't come to VM. If they are short of money, I imagine that Sky are bankrolling the HD service and won't allow it to come to cable.

I would severely doubt that , why would they ? Box Nation handles its own subscriptions instead of using Sky Subscriber services like many other add on channels. You could also argue that if Box Nation went under Sky Sports could hoover up some of its fights , less players generally means a saving.

Totally agree and apologies everyone, I meant to post this in a different thread. No benefit to Sky in having this channel in HD, Box Nation are just doing this as it's the most popular platform for its subscribers. I think I read somewhere that 2/3 of Sky subscribers take a premium sports channel whereas only 1/5 of Virgin subscribers do. Combine this with Sky having over double the number of TV subscribers than VM and there's your business case.

If they get or got the £5m then yes, they'll survive a bit longer otherwise not. I don't think it's a viable long-term business model as it stands - so they need to increase sales or reduce costs or do both.

Talking about Viacom or Channel 5.

5USA +1 may soon launch on Freeview.

DS Forum think that Viacom may axe Channel 5 + 24 for 5USA +1 to launch.

If Channel 5 + 24 is set to close Viacom may ask 5* +1 or Spike to launch on Virgin Media.

Why would BT want it? It would just increase BT's costs and give it no extra customers. Far cheaper to wait till it folded and bid against Dave/Channel 5/Sky for boxing matches. And no guarantee that if BT bought it the rights they would stay with Box Nation. Change-of-ownership rights might prevent this.

What I'm curious about is whether Viacom does a major rebrand of Channel 5 and turn it into CBS.

We already have Fox, Universal (NBC), so the only major American network left is ABC without a presence here. (cue ITV...)

Viacom own a lot of channels in the UK but all with different brands. I'm just not sure they'll keep the Ch5 branded channels alongside CBS ones. Something has got to give.

Viacom own a lot of channels in the UK but all with different brands. I'm just not sure they'll keep the Ch5 branded channels alongside CBS ones. Something has got to give.

I don't think that Viacom will want to give up the Channel 5 branding.

Thanks.

Is Hum Masala still testing on VM? It was due to go onto Sky last year, but had trouble obtaining an EPG slot on their platform and as a result didn't launch on VM.

Their new plan is to try to obtain another Sky EPG slot and launch a hybrid of Hum Masala and Hum Sitaray:

Hum TV to launch new channel in UK by March.

Hum TV Network is planning to launch a new channel in the UK by March, BizAsia can exclusively confirm.

BizAsia understands that the new channel will be a hybrid service consisting of shows from its Hum Masala and Hum Sitaray channels in Pakistan. It is likely the new channel will have a completely different identity to that of Hum Masala and Hum Sitaray. It will bring cookery and lifestyle shows from Hum Masala and entertainment such as fictions from Hum Sitaray. Furthermore, BizAsia has learnt that the new channel will be split in dayparts to match viewers’ habit and lifestyle in the UK.

Hum TV Network is currently scouting for a Sky Digital EPG. Once it has signed a deal with Sky, the channel could be launched in March – ahead of Ramadan. Last year, it was reported that Hum Masala was to launch in the UK but due to EPG delays, the channel was put on the backburner.

Hum TV’s foray in the UK/Europe market has been a huge success with its flagship entertainment channel on top of Pakistan entertainment channel ratings. The channel regularly attracts over 500,000 viewers each week.

Well it's good we have more music channels but problem is we:

1. Can't access a guide for the four channels

2. Can't record any of the content like other music channels

Vevo is very impressive and works very dad no issues there. Instead of edit playlist to view videos have a view videos option.

There has been rumours of a new box coming and it will be needed to compete with sky q

CBS and Viacom are independent companies so that won't happen. And in case you feel there is any link by virtue of Sumner Redstone, he's 92 now and understandably not actively involved in matters. The UK CBS channels are also majority owned by AMC.

There is a guide for the four channels (Clubland/AKA/Now/Chilled) within the app itself.

Interesting how they've put these new music channels in an app. They've obviously done it because it's cheaper than paying to put them on the EPG. The picture quality isn't bad but it does make flicking between music channels difficult

andrewstevenson 12-01-2016 13:19

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)

Yeah i totally agree, what annoys me is these channels are on free to apps like tv player and can access a proper guide. I can be accessed by phones tablets and freeview, I'll stick to that method easier than virgin

Why can't all the apps work the same. If you press Ch up or down in Worldbox it changes the channel within the app, on Now/Aka app, it just takes you back to the holding page on the EPG.

How does it work on VM? Is it an app like the other addition?

What's the selection of music like compared to music on Demand?

Has the VM music on Demand service now closed completely?

Thanks.

This is the view of YouVew:

Even by VM's standards they've poorly implemented this, it just looks very unprofessional.

The EPG position for the AKA/Clubland/Chilled/Now app is actually titled ClubldAKA and has some weird made up logo using the C from Clubland and AKA next to it, so looks ridiculous.

Press Red on channel 300 and it very slowly loads a menu screen with links to the Vevo app and the AKA, Clubland, Chilled and Now Music streams with an image slideshow on the right which loads in chunks like the days of dial up internet, the streams are hardly on demand content anyway.

Vevo app is, like most of VM's other apps, so very slow and clunky, you can't even use the letter buttons on your remote to search.

Price rises happen each year, simple as that.

Vevo has been on many other devices for a long time.

It's no secret that VM are slow adding apps, and given the amount of inexpensive streamer boxes out there, I don't know why people wait for VM to add apps.

For me cutting the cord was the best thing i did ok i have bt tv still but that is only £8p/m which isn't bad for channels such as fox, discovery, all bt sport, eurosport, mtv etc.
In total if i include netflix, my usa sub, nowtv and my bb and line rental costs i'm paying around £55p/m which is a lot cheaper than a equivalant package from vm or sky, i say equavilant (how ever it's spelt lol) as i'm getting movies live and on demand, tv live and on demand, sport live and on demand.

Yes, it's the standard Vevo app

What's the selection of music like compared to music on Demand?
For TiVo customers it's significantly more artists and videos available than via the previous On Demand service.

Quote:

Has the VM music on Demand service now closed completely?
For TV XL customers with a V box, there is still a inclusive option of music videos using the compatible On Demand system. For any V box on another tier, which previously had a 'pay by track' option, this is no longer available.

It's actually 'ClublndAKA' which I'd guess is the maximum character limit for a channel name that works across both TiVo and the V boxes. I'd also expect that both the channel name and logo will have been approved by Clubland AKA themselves before it was added.

Quote:

Channel 300 on a TV XL V box takes you to the available music on demand service which is why I'd expect why it's still called 'Music On Demand'

On TiVo Channel 300 is an entry route to the apps, it's designed to highlight the different music options available, it's not specific to On Demand.

Quote:

The app for Vevo on TiVo is their standard app created by Vevo, and functions in exactly the same way as it does on any other platform. I'm not aware of any Vevo app supporting letter buttons on a remote.

Initial impressions are that the music selection is different. There's some dance artists that are on MoD but I can't find on Vevo. But then Vevo has some other less mainstream stuff (Christian worship bands, for example) that you'd never find on MoD.

It still works here, but according to the VM Community post, it's now only available to XL customers. Withdrawn for everyone else.

I used the Vevo app today, it didn't stutter like YouTube often does but in between every video was an advert so I will be sticking with Spotify.

I also used the Clubland app, I was watching Chilled, left the room for a good while, when I returned the app had stopped and was back on the EPG slate, so does it only stream for a certain time?

That's at odds with the update posted on the VM Community forum, which says Tivo users on TV-XL maintain access to both services.

And as I've found with some MoD tracks not being available on Vevo, I fail to see how this is a bad thing.

That's not what the update says.

There are two separate updates, one posted in the TV forum for V box kit and one in the TiVo forum.

It's only the one in the V box forum that mentions the older service for TV XL customers. The TiVo post only mentions Vevo

I've checked with some colleagues and although there is still access to the older service via TiVo in certain places, this access is being removed across all TiVo boxes as part of a staged process.

By the end of the week going to On Demand > Music on TiVo will give you the option for Vevo (and Karaoke).

Well quite. It's different, but I don't like the way Vevo is billed as an improvement. Complementary yes, improvement - it could be, with a few tweaks and a bit more content added.
