11.224 V SR 23000 FEC 2/3 DVB-S2 8PSK

"53150" has been relabelled "Arirang TV"

Arirang TV has been added to Freesat. The South Korean news and culture channel is available on channel 214 (HD only).

It looks to have some interesting programmes.

No problem :)

Theres a possibility that Russia Today (RT) may be leaving Freesat as per the development in this thread:

Depends on the box. Mine doesn't need rescanned, it picks up changes by itself. (Echostar)

Probably not. All the decent quality boxes should take care of it. I'd say the humax qualifies as decent.

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

4Music looks like it may be going FTA opening the way for a Freesat launch.

A new FTA test has started today in addition to the encrypted version still being used by Sky.

If anyone wants to tune it in on non Freesat mode the details are:

Frequency: 12305 H
Symbol Rate: 27500
FEC 5/6
Service ID 12000 (This is shown instead of the usual channel name).
Standard: DVB-S, QPSK

There's been no word from Freesat or The Box Plus Network about any plans to add the channel to the Freesat EPG. Freesat don't often confirm new channel launches until they've actually happened, but the addition of 4Music could be this year's Christmas present - the service has a habit of high profile launches in December.

RichardCoulter 17-11-2016 23:11

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

4Seven HD is coming to VM, no word on Channel 4 +1 HD yet.

These channels were initially Freeview exclusives in order to help fill the two temporary HD muxes and to drive take up of Freeview HD boxes, so this must have now come to an end.

I imagine that if it's coming to cable that it will also be added to Freesat :)

All good for channel parity between Freeview and Freesat.

A new FTA female orientated channel to complement Quest starts on 15/3/17.

It will be called Quest Red, but curiously it's only being touted as coming to Freeview, Sky and Virgin Media.

I'm wondering if it will be encrypted on satellite in the same way as Quest as Freesat isn't mentioned.

Hopefully it's a mistake and this is what Discovery meant by being "free to develop new channels" as stated after the carriage dispute with Sky.

Quest Red is encrypted, so is Free to View on Sky boxes only.

What's the position on satellite with regards to Quest itself? Is it FTV or part of a pay package?

AFAIK VM only carried the SD variant of BT Showcase, I wonder if we will lose it or be getting the HD version??

Quest is also encrypted, so will be Sky boxes only. No doubt one of the reasons it could be used for overflow from Eurosport as there would be no rights issues.

As far as Showcase is concerned, the SD version was probably taken off-air from Freeview. The HD version, as with all VM's other HD content will have to be directly line fed to Langley, so provision will be in BT's hands now.

We now know why B4U Music was taken off Freesat; it's going to become part of the Sky Original Pack:

https://www.bizasialive.com/b4u-musi...l-pack-august/

Interesting that Sky have done this for a minority channel, if anything they've been ridding themselves of channels not deemed to drive subscriber growth. Must be something to do with their new approach to Asian channels overall.

Quest and Quest Red will shortly be joining Freesat; please see the dedicated thread for more details.

Dave & Home will be going FTA and joining Freesat from 1 August 2017; Dave will be on channel 157 and Home will be on channel 166.

About flipping time. Dave has been the most notable absence from Freesat since launch (closely followed by the HD variants of ITV's non-PSB channels. That's ITV, co-owner of Freesat).

All we need now is ITV and Channel 4 to make all their channels available in HD and I'll be happy.

RichardCoulter 18-07-2017 23:26

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

I'm sure that Channel 4 +1 HD and 4Seven HD will eventually join and there was a rumour that E4 HD might be joining sometime this year.

I can't see the rest of Channel 4's HD channels and ITV2/3/4 HD becoming FTA anytime soon.

There's a possibility that ITV Encore might join when their deal with Sky ends next June if Sky no longer want to pay for its carriage, 50% of its playout costs as well as having to share any revenue generated with ITV.

It's viewing figures aren't great and it might become FTA, but there again they might simply close it down as it's genre is very similar to ITV3 anyway!

Hopefully it's the former as opposed to the latter as it's been broadcasting FTA for brief periods. Maybe Sky want to kick it out of the Sub Club early??

RichardCoulter 28-07-2017 02:01

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

A new sports channel starts on 31/8/17 called Freesport.

Freesport have confirmed that they will be available on Freeeview, cable and satellite- including Freesat, not sure if this means it will be on Freesat from launch though.

It will show rugby, football etc. I was a bit worried that as a free sports channel it would be showing the tiddlywinks final of something!

RichardCoulter 28-07-2017 14:44

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Viacom are to reintroduce the Paramount Channel to the UK as a FTA channel (it won't be replacing Spike as it did in America).

It will show films and drama as opposed to the comedy that it's predecessor did.

Is Spike on Freesat? If so I'd expect Paramount to be added to Freesat too, which would save people having to use non Freesat mode for it.

Chris 28-07-2017 16:37

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Yes, Spike is on Freesat, channel 141

RichardCoulter 28-07-2017 20:14

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Thanks Chris.

They did say that Paramount "will be on all major platforms", so as Spike is on Freesat, I think that Viacom must regard Freesat as a major platform and that it will be on the Freesat EPG.

Ps, Dave is now broadcasting FTA ahead of it starting on Freesat on Monday, so anyone wanting to take a look before the weekend can do so via non Freesat mode :)

From 30/8/17 Kix is to close and be replaced by a channel called Pop Max aimed at 6-10 year old boys.

I suspect that's just about strengthening the Pop brand, as they own Kix and it currently caters for boys aged 6-10. :D

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Probably, it does make sense.

The music channel Scuzz that was removed from Freesat some time ago is set to return to the platform "later this month" according to its owners.

As more channels join Freesat and it's popularity grows, let's hope that these additions continue.

RichardCoulter 18-08-2017 15:08

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

You're welcome.

'Scuzz' has now been added to the Freesat service table & is currently assigned LCN 520. As with 4Music earlier this year, I'd expect this to change. No programme/EPG data yet.

I believe efforts are being made to get it onto 503 where it was until 4 years ago. This would put it with the other Sony channels, but I believe the other channels above it have to agree to this first.

Edit: There's also been a suggestion that Flava "may also be returning soon".

Chris 18-08-2017 15:27

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

All I'm really interested in now is HD variants of the non-PSB ITV, C4 and C5 channels going FTA and onto the Freesat EPG. The service has been around for 10 years now, it's about time they secured these basic services, especially from ITV which is supposed to be a principal partner in the organisation.

Well, I think that ITV are more interested in getting money from VM & Sky than anything else, Channel 5 only have their PSB channel in HD so Freesat customers aren't missing out with them.

After the BBC, Channel 4 seem to be more customer focused so I think that some of their other channels are likely to be the first to break free from the pay TV companies.

Now confirmed that Freesports is coming to Freesat:

Chris 19-08-2017 12:37

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Channel 4 are also state owned. I can understand ITV's decision up to a point but I think C4 should never have got in bed with Sky.

RichardCoulter 20-08-2017 16:37

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Totally agree.

I'm hopeful that they will consider joining Freesat as contracts for their HD channels expire. They were the first PSB commercial channel to unencrypt their main channel, introduce a +1 service for it and to unencrypt the SD variants of their spin off channels and put them onto Freeview/Freesat.

RichardCoulter 28-08-2017 18:51

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Freesports have stated that there may be a delay in them joining Freesat by up to a week on channel 252 (I think that this is probably down to Sky taking their time in doing the necessary work at the adaptation hub.)

In the meantime, those who wish to tune in manually can do so on:

]11426 V 27500 FEC 5/6 DVB-S QPSK SID

The temporary service label is 52556, but this should shortly change to 'Freesports'.

Prior to the start date they are showing promotional trailers for the channel.

RichardCoulter 31-08-2017 13:31

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

As I thought, the delay is down to Sky and the estimated date of Freesports appearing on the Freesat (and Sky) EPG's is now 12/9/17.

Viewers can still gain access by tuning in manually using the parameters given above.

POP FUN, the children's on-demand service from Sony, has launched:

Quote:

Kids can now catch up on all their favourite shows from the popular channels POP, Tiny Pop, and Pop Max all in one place and completely free! Available now in the On Demand section, you can pause, rewind or forward loads of brilliant shows whenever you want.
TVPlayer Plus:

Quote:

Popular streaming service TVPlayer Plus is now available on Freesat* TVPlayer Plus offers access to 27 of the world’s biggest TV channels including Discovery, MTV, and Comedy Central all for £5.99 a month, or a £59.99 yearly fee. Available in the On Demand section, TVPlayer Plus allows viewers to watch shows both live and on demand.
Pop Fun is free, whilst tvPlayer Plus is free for a month and then chargeable if you wish to continue. * I believe that to use this service you need to have a Humax box with Freetime/on demand.

What do Freesatters think about pay TV channels being made available on Freesat? My view is that it's better to have the choice, but some may say that this undermines the very essence of Freesat.

Chris 16-09-2017 08:23

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Putting pay services in the on demand section of Freesat is fine with me. The proposition was always free-to-air broadcast TV by satellite, with no blue screens in the middle of your channel hopping with a Sky nag screen asking you to upgrade, which is what you got with an unsubscribed sky box.

The TV market is changing however and Freesat has to respond. Putting these things in the on demand section is unobtrusive and means customers don't have to have an additional box connected to the TV.

RichardCoulter 22-09-2017 14:28

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Yes, I agree.

Could GOLD be coming to Freesat?

UKTV are currently testing an (encrypted) channel on satellite using Eden, but with EPG listings for GOLD HD!

Hopefully they will make GOLD SD FTA and put it on Freesat/Freeview (which might explain the confusion over an advert that appeared to suggest that it was advertising GOLD as being on Freeview) and keep the HD variant behind a paywall as they have done with some of their other channels.

RichardCoulter 24-09-2017 06:08

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Update: Eden HD is to close on Sky at 6am on Monday, with the capacity being used to eventually create GOLD HD.

GOLD HD started today on Sky, it'll be interesting to see how this fits in with UKTV plans to make any more SD channels available on Freesat.

Technical preparations have been made that suggest that Quest +1 and Quest Red +1 are to go FTA and join Freesat.

As posted earlier, Eden HD was recently taken off Sky.

Another forum member (theone2010) has now posted in the 'Coming Soon to VM' thread that a source has stated that Eden HD is to also come off VM in early 2018 and that Eden SD is to go FTA. No idea about BT.

Hopefully this means that the channel will end up on Freesat :)

Apparently, Keep It Country is on one of the weaker transponders (along with Blaze).

Do you get Blaze ok? The only suggestion that I've been given is that replacing your LNB might improve or resolve matters.

Hope this helps.

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Couple of other things could affect signal strength: Ensure that the dish has a clear line of sight skywards (sic) that is not through a tree or other growing things. It may also be that the dish aim is not ideal. This doesn't matter so much with a strong signal but could affect weaker ones enough to cause dropouts.

Aiming the dish using the weaker signal as the reference might help.

RichardCoulter 13-10-2017 18:08

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

That's true, I remember a lot of people having problems with UK Gold on analogue for the same reason . Transponder 23 was weaker as it wasn't really intended to be used for the UK, but all other channels were fine.

I tried out Blaze for a while and it seemed OK. I have some trees round my house that never bothered the channel before, but maybe this is the problem now, Maybe it will be better when the trees get bare . What is an LNB Richard,

Low Noise Block - Basically the piece of kit at the end of the dish arm that collects the signal & reduces the frequency range to a level the satellite receiver can handle.

Try all of the suggestions above & you could also re-run the Freesat Install option from the setup menu on the box.

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

You're welcome.

Now some not so good news, from 27/11/17 the Curzon Home Cinema Freesat app will no longer be available on Freesat set top boxes or the web app.

You will be able to continue renting films using the Freesat app until this date, and Curzon recommend that you make any final rentals by 25 November 2017 to ensure that you can stream these on your TV of choice for their 48 hour availability. The purchase will automatically appear in 'My Films' across all your enabled devices.

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

I have never even heard of the Curzon Home Cinema Richard

RichardCoulter 27-10-2017 23:47

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

It's a service that's delivered online to Freesat boxes and enables films to be rented, so may not show up on your box Nashville.

NB it's also available on Virgin Media boxes.

Together TV is a new channel from the Community Channel, planned to launch on Freeview (and other platforms) in early 2018.

Info. courtesy of jj20x.

Also, technical preparations have been made that suggest that motorsport.tv, Quest Red +1 and Quest +1 are to shortly join Freesat.

No problem :)

Just noticed that I typed in Freeview in my post instead of Freesat (although Together TV is said to be coming to Freeview too).

Motorsport TV* is now broadcasting FTA and is now presumably ready to go onto the Freesat EPG.

If you want to watch it before it's officially added, you can tune it in via non Freesat mode using the following parameters:

11.307 H, 27.500, 5/6, DVB-S QPSK

*You may find it labelled as '52290'.

When it launches, Motorsport.tv (abbreviated name 'motorstv') will be on EPG no 253.

Coincidentally, 'Freesat UHD' has (re)appeared in the test region on LCN 998. This points to the SES/Astra test stream on 12441V, which is probably the new addition to the Freesat NIT. This essentially replaces the 'Freesat 4K' service that was present until recently.

Worth mentioning the three test labels that have been present for a while, too. 'Test 1', 'Test 2' and 'Test 3' are allocated LCNs 1961, 1962 and 1963 respectively. While there are other test labels, these have got EPG data for ITV Tyne Tees SD, HD and +1.

Interestingly they point to non-existent data streams using PIDs 10544, 10545 and 10546 on the Freesat home TP, very odd...

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Do channels get auto added to freesat or does it require retuning like freeview?

RichardCoulter 31-12-2017 19:31

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

If they join Freesat new channels are automatically added to the EPG.

If they broadcast FTA and don't join Freesat, they have to be searched for manually in non Freesat mode.

alanbjames 31-12-2017 19:56

how do u search in non freesat mode?

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Depends on which manufacturer & model you have Alan.

The instructions should tell you how to do this, if not I'll see if I can help.

The Recovery Channel is currently available and showing slow TV on channel 164.

At first I thought that this was something similar to Landscape that TV channels dip in and out of, but it's a pop up channel available until 6am on 2/1/18.

Looks like The Community Channel are now prepared to sell their airtime.

Thanks will give it a try.

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

The ability to tune to non-Freesat channels is present on all Freesat boxes, but Freesat don't like you doing it, hence most of the new Humax manuals don't document the procedure. There are however plenty of YouTube videos that go through the process with the newer models.

NP :)

Are True Crime and the Sony Channel on Freesat?

If so, from 6/2/18 the Sony Channel becomes the Sony Crime Channel:

http://www.sonycrimechannel.co.uk/ne...channel-launch

Apparently, the current True Crime will continue as Sony Crime 2.

Re: One or two new channels coming to Freesat.

Freesat viewers can enjoy the last week or so of the Sony Channel and the first week of the Sony Crime Channel before it's officially added to Freesat by adding it (and the +1) in non Freesat mode:

11.306 V SR 27500 FEC 5/6 DVB-S QPSK

The one labelled as 53385 is showing Sony Channel FTA

The one labelled as 53390 is showing Sony Channel +1 FTA

Talking Pictures hopes to be adding subtitles in March.
