VM feel with sports on their higher tier of tv they can get more customers. More customers equals a more successful business which equals a higher profit level. A higher profit level means in theory more investment into broadband and more budget for more services in television

I understand the frustration and anger of people who arent "sports fans" who feel theyre giving money for no reason (even tho bt sport europe isnt in xl tv at the moment) but in theory theyre trying to get more customers (as more customers means better prospects for services for us all)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

I would strongly think that this new deal will also include AMC. VM would be crazy not negotiate for it with the fact they are giving us sports as part of XL. They know that sport does not appeal to everybody so giving AMC may offset some of the disgruntled non sports fans

For £3 extra p/m according to vms forums aka link mm posted letters are going out today.
Imo vm should split xl in two packs maybe have a xl version for those who want HD but not the bt sports at and one that includes bt sport maybe they could be call xl and xl plus.

Isn't the bill increase just your token 6 month bend over and get done in? We've had many 3 quid increases without any new channels or additional services? Or are they wording it that this time it's increasing due to BT sport Europe?

I doubt they would ever do that theone, I imagine BT only agree to this deal because of the number of XL customer subs VM have all together. If the XL pack is split in two, I also imagine that many people would not take the sport option as they would have no interest and the number of sub payments BT could potentially get may well dwindle, and the deal may not be beneficial for BT.

On a side note (to all posters) - if VM, are seemingly happy to charge XL custmers an extra £3 for BT Europe, and IIRC £2 for BT Sport 1+2, I wonder why they do not get now SA. Surely Sky can not be asking for more than £3/£5 per customer? I know BT sports are a unique selling point, but Atlantic would probably please more people and entice more people over to the good side;) (even though I am still not overly impressed with SA.)

id imagine its a marketing issue with vm trying to brag about having all the sports. its a different advertisement campaign really. if you want atlantic you could get sky. if you want all the sport in one package its vm. its a unique selling point. not that im agreeing with their strategy!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

Sky do not charge anything for BT as they don't offer it at all.

You have to go to BT to get BT Sports on your Sky Box.

It is around £5pm extra for the new Europe channel - so it works out about £20pm if you don't have other BT services.

Seems like a mixed bag news day for you VM TV guys. Good news for all the footy fans who are happy to get BT Sport Europe in the XL TV pack and bad news for every XL TV customer (especially non footy fans) that there will be yet another price rise of £3.

Will that be 3 price rises within 6 months for those with XL TV and Sky Premiums? I appreciate 1 was due to Sky but still pretty harsh.

It's a smack in the face for non sports fans, who've been funding free premium sport for too long anyway.

For non sports fans, for those who are prepared to do it, cutting the cord is the way to go. Vote with your wallet and deprive VM of some TV income.

Spot on as you know i cut the cord and haven't looked back, ok i have plusnet tv but that's only £5p/m as it gives me syfy and discovery.

If the price of XL goes up again, I'll have to cancel. It's just too expensive and it wasn't that long ago since the last price rise.

One price rise a year is bad. Two within a year is disgusting.

I understand the anger tonight though I'm happy with the news. It appears virgin media are determined to keep and get customers using this strategy. I'm lucky I like sports. I think if you're after entertainment channels aka Atlanta maybe BT or sky is your option. With the current owners of vm (who I think do want to sell) it's targeting football and sports

Pretty much. If VM are effectively charging customers a fiver for all BT sports (a great deal in my eyes) why not just lump the price of Atlantic on and get that too. Surely it would not cost more than the same price of all BT Sport?!?

I fully agree with other posters though, other than True Detective and perhaps Banshee, Atlantic is really is not worth the hype.

Ah but there lies the issue in the sense that no one knows what price they were asking for, could of been £10 for all we know

Would you be happy if they added a kids channel you didn't watch or cooking channel and said by the way bill going up £3, think majority would say hell no! It's just the same for us non sport fans.

They should make it an option as an extra and add the channel for £3.

Why should I have to downgrade my pack and by doing that I'll end up paying more as it seems the more you downgrade the monthly fee goes up.

Try the bundles, less you have should be less you pay, but the difference in price is about £10 to £8

Perfect Choice 16-07-2015 12:16

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

Looks like I am heading for downgrading from XL to the L pack or whatever it is these days. I don't need sport so an extra £3 is not an option for me. In fact the only reason I stay with VMTV is the 3 tuner Tivo box (not aware of anybody else offering a 3 tuner box?) so we can record multiple programmes at the same time; 2 tuners is not enough for us.

This is not why I bought XL TV and VM really have an issue IMHO of customers wanting as much HD channels as they can, but have to pay the premium of Sport channels being included to get them. The price has just got too much for me.

Media Boy HQ talks about BT Sport on Virgin Media.

We was given info late on Tuesday night about BT Sport Europe on Virgin Media. But it was given under an DNP Order until Wednesday.

Virgin Sources has confirmed that BT Sport Europe HD and BT Sport Showcase will also launch.

As of July 15th no new channels are testing. Plus no confirmed channel numbers yet for the new BT Sport Channels.

That's what I was wondering. If that's the case I guess being in SD isn't too much of an issue and the other BT Sports channels have the HD variants.

Virgin Media Sources has confirmed to Media Boy HQ that BT Sport Showcase is set to launch on Virgin Media.

BT need to broadcast some UEFA games for free as part of it deal with UEFA.

Last season Champions League deal was with ITV and Sky Sports.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

I think you'll find that BT will want VM to keep the BT SD channels together and the BT HD channels together - and in the following order:
BT Sport 1
BT Sport Europe
BT Sport 2
BT Sport/ESPN

The other channel i mentioned coming bY October isn't lifetimehd i will reveal more when i can, i have been told which channel it is but haven't been given the nod to disclose it yet.

We are trying to get confirmed info from our sources so far Lifetime HD has an To Be Confrim launch date.

On June 23 our Sources did say that Virgin Media was hoping to have BT SPORT EUROPE included in XL package but the info was given under an DNP order.

Agree with that Vince, it was two adverts on on page. First one saying "You get ALL the football with Virgin" then further down you got the Big Kahuna Sports Package which does not include Premier Sports.

Think that's where some are getting confused.

Talking about Do Not Post orders we have two of them as of July 17th.

-One is from an Virgin Sources (To be removed within the next 14 months).
-One is an unconfirmed rumour we have seen.

Yes, but that information doesn't really mean very much to us, MB.

I really hope the BT HD channels are grouped together I'm lazy with my remote and like to flick between channels with minimum fuss :). I really wish they would group all the HD channels together.

If anyone is interested BT have announced the pricing for their Ultra HD channel. Youview Ultra HD box and all channels plus 250 hours of HD recording (600 SD) and only £15 a month, sounds very good to me. If I upgrade my TV next year to 4K I have to say this would definitely tempt me to move as I imagine Virgin will be the last to get decent 4K content (in particular for Sport). I'm sure Sky will launch 4K soon.

Ironic really that BT are first to launch 4K yet are way behind when it comes to HD content.

Aye, that's the nub for me. Being a rugby fan I quite like having the Aviva Premiership included in XL - whether I'd pay extra for it I don't quite know, but it's certainly one of many reasons why XL is worth the extra.

But I can't stand football, and being forced to pay for the greed of the business (it's not a sport.....) is what grates.

Interesting that the make a fanfare about the 4K box, mention SD and HD recording hours, but fail to mention 4K recording hours.

Can 4K content only be watched live or are the recording hours low? If you can record 4K, I'm guessing it would be around 60 hours?

I suspect 4K could be live only considering how paranoid content providers are.

Had a webchat with BT yesterday because I wanted to find out my likely BB speed and without a line to check its a bit of a guess. Anyway, the person I was chatting with gave me the usual Infinity 1 & 2 'upto' speeds as well as an Infinity 3 speed of 220MBs. I said I wanted an exact speed so was put through elsewhere and then given a number to call. I thought the guy I was speaking to was going to jump down the line when I asked about Infinity 3. "WHO TOLD YOU THAT?" was his response along with a few other choice words before calming down to tell me that Infinity 3 hadn't been released yet and was still being tested - no further info available.

End result is I can, like you, only get Infinity 1 (at the moment) and look forward to the day when I can see football in 4k.

Yes - AMC is exclusive to BT Customers - but those who get BT Sports on a Sky box are BT Customers.

It doesn't start until September - so perhaps it will come to VM.

I do wish the media would stop mis-quoting in their articles. The BT TV platform refers only to BT's IPTV platform, so when I see this quoted, you expect that it only refers to that service, & not "BT customers taking TV" or "exclusive to BT customers" which refers to the IPTV & satellite platforms.

There is NO mention of satellite customers in this article:

The BT website has clearly stated that AMC will be available on Sky boxes to BT Sport Pack customers!

However, there doesn't seem to be any recent pages or currently linked pages mentioning AMC at all on bt.com

Yes i knew i had seen something stating it was coming to Sky customers who take BT sports too. I guess by the XL package going up by £3 a month to cover the cost of BT Sport Europe indirectly makes us BT customers also. I can't imagine VM would negotiate with BT just for BT Sports when they knew AMC was coming also and then having to go back to negotiate again.

This is virgin media we are talking about! The same organisation who can't even get freeview channels. Their gimmick at the moment is "all the sports". I doubt they'll have got AMC too. Probably would have cost another quid or something but it's not their priority. Rightly or wrongly they don't really care about normal TV. As seen by the lack of channel acquisitions outside their "all the sports" marketing slogan

As far as Media Boy HQ knows AMC is not set to launch on Virgin Media as AMC deal is just for BT Viewers.

As far as we know AMC has to sign deal with Virgin Media to get onto they network. Sky need to carry all channels as they are an open network.

BT has signed an so called exclusive deal with AMC.

. True, but this just perpetuates a situation in which viewers have to subscribe to more than one platform to pick up all the programmes they want to see. This is not in the interests of the consumer, who has to pay a lot more just to get one or two additional channels with a hell of a lot of overlap.

Only broadcasters who need to pay to join Virgin as far as we know is Shopping or Radio channels.

We can confirmed at as of July 20th no new channels are testing on Virgin Media.

So why are they on every platform including tvplayer then and not vm?
It's odd don't you think that vm is the only platform spike and trutv isn't on?
My money is on vm setting silly prices for them to be carried on vms platform, not that vm viewers are missing much anyway lol.

We feel it down to broadcasters asking too much for just one channel.

We also feel we may get Tru TV in six month time as the last deal was signed in January 2013*.

Spike fans may need to wait until June 2016 as the last Viacom deal was signed in June 2013.

http://mediaboyblog.blogspot.co.uk/2...view-2013.html

*Got to have been over Tru TV asking too much over per viewer as Tru TV did even confirm what channel number they was going to launch on Virgin Media.

But anyway if they both ask Virgin to drop an sister channel they can launch on Virgin as soon as August 1st.

-Tru TV for Cartoon Network +1?
-Spike for Channel 5 + 24?

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one mate i think it is down to VM asking too much it just seems odd the channels are on every other platform vm aren't as innocent as they like to make people believe.
Afterall they have to get the money for the sports in XL someway.

It might be fantasy land, but where there should be a line drawn is sporting competitions, it can't be right that a sporting competition can sell different events from within one competition to rival subscription broadcasters meaning that a fan of one club needs to have 2 subscriptions to follow their team, as it is the main company's are playing nice at the moment but it is conceivable that a fan of the premier league could end up needing 3 different set top boxes to watch one competition.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2

It could also be that Virgin feel that since these channels are on freeview which most people are able to get the price for carry them is lessened?
