He should register here for any notifications. I don't think anyone at VM can divulge plans at the moment.

Out of interest, is this true for DOCSIS-1 & DOCSIS-3? Just thinking that all the TiVos connect to the legacy network, and they're particularly sensitive to (especially peak-time) congestion.

Arris says it is involved as a key supplier. "Stanzione added that Arris would benefit from Virgin’s £3 billion infrastructure upgrade in the UK. “We’re excited to be a key supplier to Liberty Global as part of their major infrastructure investment plan for the UK as well as their expanding business in Europe and South America."
Arris will also be involved in the next generation 4K DVB Video Gateway program for Liberty Global.

In some areas all the Motorola BSRs have already been replaced by Arris E6ks. The odd Cisco has also seen replacement.

This is something that'll continue as time goes on. To serve the new areas either Cisco 10ks or Arris E6ks will be installed.

Unsure about those as they should be going to the overlay network at some point soon.

So, what happens next with VM's Project Lightning? Will there be a big announcement of areas being upgraded in the next 1/2/3 years?

Obviously there will be announcements, how 'big' these announcements will be, how many areas and how far into the future they'll cover I've no idea and I doubt that those who do know, if anyone does, will be in a position to answer for right now.

Is there anyway of knowing what BSR you are on? The reason i ask i had two techs here last week trying to find an issue where my hub was dropping offline sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes for hours in the early hours. The Second tech that came out changed the hub and as he was about to say "job done" the hub fell offline for about 3-4 minutes and when it relocked on instead of my downstream channels being 1-8 they are now 9-16. He rang the networking guys at their head end whatever that is and at first they said nothing was happening but he then spoke to the head guy there and said yes over the past 2 weeks or so we have been changing and adding new hardware aswell as resegmenting the network. When he got off the phone he said that work was being done on the BSR and i asked what make it was out of Curiosity and he said Motorola.

BSR is a proprietary name for Motorola's CMTSs. VM also use Cisco UBRs (of various models), and Arris E6000s (often called "E6k"). But they all do the same job.

Looks like Liberty wants to do the same in its other European territories.
