Not according to the survey quoted in that thread - 60% said they personally found it offensive.
It was a glib comment, I wasn't expecting captain fact checker to either confirm or deny its accuracy.

Lots of posts trying to argue the UKIP councillor is innocent until proven guilty. Why bother when the UKIP leader is happy with this kind of thing:

I think the UKIP bubble is deflating .. nice :)

Clearly UKIP are starting to batten down the hatches in an attempt to keep internal affairs just that.

Aside from this particular situation and the various earlier suspensions and dismissals over entirely inapproprite comments recently there has been the suspension of the entire Lambeth Branch where "Ukip declined to say what the investigation will look into or why it was launched" and the advice from Steve Crowther that UKIP members shouldn't join Twitter or Facebook.

Perhaps they are starting to realize that they are being, and will continue to be, held to account for the actions and comments of their membership.

Man in the pub politics is fine in the pub, it's a different matter altogether when you are seeking a mandate from the electorate.

And this will lead to people claiming they're no longer fun and will move on to the next bunch of right-wing "England for the English" brain donors, most likely "Britain First".

Can you recall another political party member being expelled under the terms of a non-existent rule from their party constitution for unpublished / unbroadcast comments?

It's a bit out of context.
she said she has a problem with negroes. because there was something about their faces.

they're black?

it would make more sense if she said something like she just doesn't like the colour of their skin. because you're wondering what she means by "there's something about their faces"

Wow, that is outstanding.

I love how she wont even deny saying it and instead is now claiming to have been unfairly treated. As if that's any defence.

She deserved to be kicked out for that, there is no context where that cannot be seen as anything other than a deeply offensive comment.

I think her mistake is to voice that publicly at all. I doubt there is a mainstream news company that wouldn't have found those comments newsworthy irrespective of how 'leftie' they are. Maybe a proportion of people do 'actually think' that but thankfully they're outnumbered by a vastly bigger number of people who don't. She is unelectable.

She's giving her opinion and she's allowed to have it, nobody should deny her that. However when someone is in a job that can influence laws, communities, policies etc giving such views in public dangerous and a big mistake. Especially when her leader is falling over himself to distance the party from having a racist reputation.

I agree with you that she shouldn't have voiced her opinion on this sensitive issue given her political position, I also do not believe that racism is acceptable. However I think it would surprise you the number of "grass roots" Tories who also think that way, living in Tory heartland I've heard similar thoughts expressed many times from some surprising sources!

I think if the recording had been covert/secret then her been kicked out of the party would have been more unfair, her private views are just that.

But she knew that camera was there, she knew the clip would not stay in that room.

Forget what she said do you really want to elect someone that stupid i know we scrape the bottom of the barrel when it comes to politicians but that much scrapeing if you think electing her was a good idea well good luck to you. Ukip is a deeply unpleasant party more like the bnp then anything else in our politics and as much as i loathe and despise the EU and think we should be out i couldn't in good conscience ever vote for ukip. I'm not a leftie or tree hugging softie but there have to be limits in what your prepared to elect and vote for and ukip are beyond the limit.

Surely it's only a problem if you act on your beliefs to the detriment of that group. Having a dislike of a particular group for one reason or another is pretty common I'd imagine.

I found it disappointing. She even admitted that it was irrational.

Her biggest crime was, clearly, to be open and honest in a time when every man, woman, transgender, child, dog, cat, etc, is looking for any excuse to take offence.
