If they could make the Tivo slightly quicker when moving between screens, that would also be a bonus ;)

Totally Agree! However ther is no need to delete them or turn off the feature as Tivo automatically deletes them if space is needed. They are not included in the percentage space figure which is shown.

Whether this goes ahead or whether its some other mega combination over there. I think the implications for us in the UK, rather than specifically VM customers, is that we'll get further consolidation here too at some point.

I've long said on forums that I believe the UK will end up with 3 or 4 large media/telecoms companies consisting of a terrestrial tv channel, broadband network, mobile network, newspapers & magazines, film and whatever else they can chuck in. And of those 3 or 4 companies, I'm hoping that one will remain entirely British controlled.

Viacom now owns Ch5. ITV could be a target next and the BBC and Ch4 could be targets or predators, if privatised.

If most US tv and film content is in the hand of just a few companies (the big 5 control most of it already) it will put pressure on UK operators when deals for channel carriage agreements come up, content deals etc.

John Malone is buying up UK content not for no reason, neither is Murdoch. Both if them now control a vast chunk of "independent" tv production in this country.

True, but I consider it a done deal in my opinion. There are no competition concerns. But until it's done it ain't done, so you're right to highlight that.

The rumours swirling around TimeWarner are just that. But closer to hand, a revolution is promised at the BBC.

On that "Murdoch to buy TimeWarner" rumour, it seems just to be a rumour with little substance: http://variety.com/2014/biz/news/goo...er-1201260050/. Google buying TimeWarner? Hmmm, that's been tried before (AOL, at the time a huge internet company, bought TW back in 2000) and that is widely regarded as an absolute disaster.
The only TW channels broadcasting in the UK are CNN, Cartoon Network, Boomerang and TCM. There's no reason to believe that their future carriage on VM would be under any kind of threat even if Fox were to successfully buy TW.

VM would be subject to an embargo on this if it were to be agreed. This is sensitive for Sky, so you can expect there to be a discreet introduction if the miracle were to happen. If it doesn't happen now, it probably never will!

I was extremely optimistic about Sky Atlantic being added to the VM offer last autumn, but the continuing delay does make one wonder what on Earth is going on. It would be extremely disappointing if Liberty Global were not going all out for this channel, and both sides were reported as being more realistic late last year.

Well, not long to wait to see whether there has been a good outcome to all of this.

But before anyone gets their hopes up, The Guardian was reporting a couple of months ago that SA was not part of the deal.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...l-sky-atlantic

Virgin Media has struck a five-year deal to carry BSkyB's TV channels – but once again failed to reach agreement to offer Sky Atlantic, home to big name shows including Game of Thrones.

It's interesting that you say that. I spoke to retentions last week as my contract and discounts end in a couple of weeks. Chap was fine and although he did offer me something, he also advised me to hang on til nearer the time as offers were changing and I might get a better deal. Whether that means the offers that retentions staff can give, or ones regarding the overall contracts I don't know.

I think it was the case that VM had done a deal with BT but were not permitted to announce this in advance. All to do with BT maximising subscriptions to its Broadband deal before people became aware that it would be on Virgin.

aye yeah i thought that myself. it was a bit naughty that deal! worked well for us but i wonder how long the contracts had been signed/sealed for.

if vm had said

"look we can sign at this lesser amount for 3 years on condition we announce it the day before the EPL season starts"

Little BT would have thought they could have got a massive amount of new subscribers. VM would have known they'd have got a great deal. worked well for all.

I wonder if sky and Vm would ever do that...

Being a film buff I would like this but a couple of suggestions

It's in HD

Classic films shown in a season with an introduction and docs. I used to love the old moviedromes on BBC2 for that reason (those old enough to remember from the 80s films introduced by Alex Cox)

If you are looking to recruit a researcher, I'm available ;)

I don't think there's much chance of it coming to Virgin in the near future based on the well-publicised tweet from a senior Sky employee. However, BT were bragging about BT Sport being exclusive to them upto the day its availability on VM was announced so I would not read too much into the Sky adverts.

Aye I thought that about bt sport myself. They were emailing virgin media customers about "the only way to watch BT sport is with us... You won't get to see it with VM..." And then wham it appears suddenly. It could have been a last gasp contract signing or it could have been part of the agreement that BT could keep trumpeting being "exclusive" right up until EPL kick off

You can add a mobile sim to the the current big bundles with unlimited minutes and texts for £5 with 250mb data or £8 with 1GB.

Pretty much that it was not going to be on other platforms for the forseeable future. It was discussed elsewhere with a link about three weeks ago, if I find it I'll re-post.

I don't think they will tbh. MBs sources are better than mine though lol.
My sources are saying before the new season not directly after World cup. Which makes me think end of July launch.

as you well know Howard mate that a sky inforced charge not a VM so cant blame VM for that as for not paying extra for SA that's a basic channel as you well know as well and Sports is Premium so yes that's a extra charge

I would not pay extra for 1 basic channel the most over rated channel ever

Sky may have forced but vm agreed bud, like the next price rise vm will already know what it is and agree to it of course because customers will foot the increase,as for sky Atlantic being a basic channel far from it as some of the best tv on sky ie boardwalk empire, blue bloods, gof, banshee, veep and the list goes on and one of the reasons I am decreasing tv with vm and keeping sky got sick of waiting for channels that they would have to include arriving rather than ones that can additionally charge for ie universal hd for one

It's not a basic channel ???? Only in your opinion bud only thing your gonna see under lg is additional cost channels, not much negionation needed to get a channel your customers are gonna pay the extra for :(

But it is not a basic channel to many as it has some excellent series on there and thus quite a few customers in my humble opinion would be willing to pay a little extra and it would be good to have that choice in my opinion.

End of day bud it's people choice you like your sports and I like best of us tv shows,I would rather pay a couple of quid extra to get sky Atlantic than pay extra £7 for channels I already get and personally sky sports 1+2 Are the only ones I watch and as for f1 (don't even know the channel number lol)

I think it's a lot to do with losing champions league rights to bt there hoping more people will subscribe to sports they could do with extra income for next bidding rights because bt will come in hard

Even before sky launched Atlantic sky always had more subscribers than VM? I think it's sky's paranoia tbh.

People on this forum never seem to grasp that the two businesses have completely different priorities , Sky's core business is television were VM's is its fast broadband network.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 3

Sky's core television business has totally reached saturation point so they have much more to gain if they agree carriage terms with other providers in my book.

Probably already been asked, but with the soon to be here SkySports 3 & 4 in HD and SkySports5 HD, is there likely to be any extra cost to me? (If any, presumably levied by Sky and NOT VM)?

I'm already on XL pack, 120mb BB and already take the Sky Sports 1&2 in HD.

Cheers

The powers that be within BSKYB obviously deem it more beneficial as exclusive currently , no doubt over time this will change.
