I've just noticed in the small print that it's £5 per Tivo. But surely if a Tivo is included in a package that is all it should cost. If not that's very sneaky of VM and should be in bold in the large details not hidden in some small print. |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
The total quoted cost of Collections and Bundles that include TiVo cover the £5 fee that is paid for the included TiVo box. However it is still there.
Same as when the VIP bundle launched way back in 2007, it covered the £10 a month V+ HD monthly fee that was charged at the time |

Just checked and your right. Seems pointless me bothering changing to a new package then. How dissapointing. This is getting quite an expensive game. |

The second box charge allows you to see all your channels on an additional box. If the additional box is a V HD, there is no additional charge. If the additional box is a TiVo, the TiVo charge applies. |

Just gone from XL TV with a Tivo, Castlemaine XXXXL broadband and talk weekends to the Big Kahuna and ended up saving £20 a month. Plus got the upgrade to 152mb instantly.
Yay. |

Call up retentions and ask them. They're usually quite good about letting you change your package, even if you're in contract. It's better for them to sell you a new 18month contract at a lower rate than keep you for just 3 or 4 months at the current rate.

OK going to go for the Big Kahulalalalalala and pay line rental upfront so will save myself £153 pa. What is the best time of day to get through to the Scottish customer services? Last time I had an indepth conversation abroad it was with a technician on board a two stroke motorcycle. No kidding.
Also will I have to upgrade to Superhub 2 or will my 1 suffice? |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
@Kushan @lonespeaker
Thanks for your replies guys. I'll try and get time tomorrow to dig out my current contract details and then give retentions a ring and see what I can fix up with them. |

Your bed time to ring is morning just after 8 and the multiroom fee is per box so it would be £13 (£6.50 each)

An additional V HD box will have a one-off installation charge of £49.95 unless you can agree a waiver of this charge. Each additional box has a monthly charge of £6.50. |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Is there any way to see all the new bundles in detail yet? All i can get to is the Big Kahuna page and the old collections.

currently have tv xl,broadband 30meg,and phone and free weekend calls. i am thinking of taking the tv element off my bill. this will leave just phone and broadband for me to pay. has anyone got any idea of the price i will pay? VM only gives upgrade prices and various offers to new customers only.

we lose a fiver discount next week so i think i make a bit more of a saving, and speedier broadband is always nice - be handy if they let me keep the 2nd box gratis
24 month phone contract ends next month too so a sim only option will save about 20 quid, which is nice |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
2 weeks of trying and still can't get this £5 SIM deal with my updated package, still get passed back and forth between virgin media and virgin mobile and no one knows anything about it.

Finally getting £5/month SIM. Amazing when you tell them to cancel everything after being with them since 1990s they can get it sorted.
|
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Doesn't seem to be anything like the essential Family collection, nearest is Big Kahuna. Hope that they do a deal for slower BB with same TV as Big Kahuna, imo 152MB BB is over the top!
|
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Next one down is the Big Bang, as that comes with 100Mbit broadband and is £10 cheaper. However it also only comes with M+, so upgrading TV up again may wipe out the saving.

Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Technically it could be right as it depends what rules are set up.
However if you look at it in the bundle builder - there is a £9.50 difference between TV L and TV XL when taken with just the phone so even if it let you there is no advantage trying to do that as: Big Bang + TV L = £35 + LR Big Khanua = £45 + LR So you would save all of 50p a month if you managed to get Big Bang + TV XL ---------- Post added at 16:53 ---------- Previous post was at 16:49 ---------- They have actually tried to make it fairly rounded pricing wise with the upgrades (all plus line rental): Big Easy = £20 Big Easy + More TV = £25 Big Bang = £30 Big Bang + TV L = £35 Big Kahuna = £45 and Big Daddy = £95 |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Fair enough Ben, I guess for those who want a bundle with XL TV then it's gonna be the Big Kahuna as the best value choice and you'll get the 152Mb broadband whether you need that amount of bandwidth or not.
Guess it'll look good for VM in the next quarterly results when they can say they've had an X% increase in subscribers taking their super fast 152Mb broadband! ;) |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
This advertising by VM and many others of packages not showing the line rental but stashing it in the small print, when the line rental in extreme cases costs the same as the bundle, really needs to stop.
A £15 bundle with £15.99 line rental on top of that headline price is awful. TalkTalk, Sky, BT, etc, are also guilty. Especially TalkTalk and Sky. |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
50MB BB with XL TV would suit me, plus the obligatory line rental! But I suppose it would be priced near to Kahuna :(
|
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
They are pushing customers towards 152Mb broadband aren't they?
The Kahuna bundle with 152Mb is £1 cheaper then 50Mb broadband + XL TV + M phone. What's really bizarre is that 100 Mb broadband + XL TV + M phone comes out as £79.50!! |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Bizarre, isn't it!

I tried Retentions recently before the Big Bundles came into being but ended up with the same services at the same price. I did get a credit of one month's charge. I have been a loyal customer for 14 years, happy with the price I pay but sometimes feel disappointed that the Retentions department seem to reward disloyalty, rather than loyalty. I see nothing in the new bundles for me. |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Not a happy chappy.
Got a letter through the post. It said 'quote Big Laguna 30. We think you'll be glad you did' Rang free phone number. Outcome was they wanted to charge me 4.75 MORE! Tried to ring 'retentions but option seems to have gone. Eventually a lady whom I could barely hear said she would put me through. Listened to music for 5 minutes and rang off. It seems a lot of people wanted them. I have been a loyal non complaining ntl/VM customer for 12+ years with no discounts. I have now had enough of ever rising prices and am considering other options. To cap it all, my normally very reliable TV and broadband service has now gone off with an estimated time of fixing 6.30pm. Have had to resort to my mobile to write this. |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Retentions still exists, though I can't remember the numbers off hand, you go through something like "make changes to your service", then "removing a service" and I think there might be a "If you're thinking of leaving us" option after that.
Give them a go, make sure you tell them what you've just told us and they'll work something out. |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
LAst time I called retentions it was through the option for moving house. That was at the begining of april.

Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Have swapped bundle for the Kahuna whatsit thingy and saved over £100 on a year contract and upped Broadband to 152.... Good deal.
The only fly in the ointment is the appalling service of Yodel who deliver the hubs... will get it eventually! |

Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
Thanks for the information here.
I've just swapped to the Big Bang from my existing collection and got a really good deal, including keeping loyalty discount. I'm getting 90.5 download, so really pleased. Can I check on one point though. Re the £5 pm mobile sim card is my understanding of unlimited calls as being unlimited landline and mobile calls to 01,02 and 03 correct. I'm only asking because I phoned Orange to cancel my existing Orange monthly contract and the reps I spoke to were amazed at the Virgin price. I began to wonder if I had misunderstood the Virgin deal. Another question same as previous poster, do I return my old Superhub 1? |
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
The SuperHub 1s don't need to be returned anymore.

Seems to be a general terms and conditions letter, but I assume like you that it is unlimited calls. At the moment I cannot find any more info on the sim deal. |

Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
i shall stick with what i have
BB 100mb Tv XL Tel XL i tivo 1gb i tivo 500mb £81.74 inc line rental - i get a 'discount' currently on the 2nd box. there are things i dont like about the new big bundles. not including a 2nd box in the price in the higher tier bundles like they did in Premiere and VIP collections. And basically saying if you want TV XL you have to have 152mb (ie Big Kahuna)- i dont really want to pay for 152mb as 100mb is more than enough for me i find. |

Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
I am on the VIP package with XXL phone. When I check on what's available the site says I already have the highest tier available but does not give a price comparison on the new bundles available now. I currently pay around £126 p/m which includes everything.
|
Re: Virgin Media launch 'first true quad-play' bundles
The equivalent to the last VIP Collection would be the Big Daddy + Extra V HD which would be £117.49.
