Good stuff. Just saved me a few pennies and sped up my broadband speed by going on the Big Kahuna.

So no new channels launched on Tuesday, is anything going to launch before the end of the year channel wise? If there is, probably a new shopping channel or some such rubbish.

Possibly yes, VM are concentrating on broadband and repackaging channels and bundles at the moment it seems.
Don't rule out any new channel launches this year.

I believe the best thing for customers of VM or BT or Sky, is the cost. is to offer 'cheapness' in the market.

Things are tough financially, for everyone BUT, įll bills go up. So companies should realise this instead of making massive profits, like Sky, there profits have been very high.

It's for existing customers now, and will be extended to new customers at the end of the month (I believe).

I have just changed from Premiere to Big Kahuna, and I save around £8 per month and go from 60Mb/s to 152Mb/s - result!!

I'm thinking of giving them a call, I'm out of contract next month, currently on the premiere collection. Was it quite straight forward when you called them?

It was when I did it. Although took a while to summarise the new contract to me.

I did get the feeling that it was a bit "which offer do you know about?" sort of thing.

Big Kahuna suits me. I'll be switching the sports off for the summer too.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2

Had exactly the same reaction on the phone. They tried to sell me the Big Kahuna deal at £90 until I pointed out I had the deal in front of me, on their website. Also when I said I'd take the £45 deal she immediately gave me £10 off for the first 6 months as well. Ta very much I said. :)

I wonder if I could save any money?

4x TiVO
120mb Broadband (upgrade is later this year)
XL TV
Sky Sports & Movies
Sky Premium HD
Talk Unlimited

Paying around £135 a month!

One of your problems is you are paying quite a bit for every extra TiVo and remember Sky's premium channels ain't cheap either but you want to give them a tinkle to see if you can get a better deal..

No, it took a bit of patience - I eventually asked them (after 27 minutes) to transfer me to Retentions, which they did, and it was sorted out in five minutes (I didn't threaten to leave, I just explained to Retentions that I would like the deal offered on the Web, and they did it).

27 minutes and the CS rep had STILL not sorted it out, forcing you to have to turn to another member of staff in another department! That's ridiculous and may also be why waiting times to be answered can be so lengthy.

I wouldn't have had the patience, imagine how much this wasted time, loss of customers and potential increase in the ARPU of existing customers is costing LG

If the HD sub goes up so we are in line with SKY customers then it is a small price to pay for getting the remaining HD channels. Personally wouldn't bother me if it went up to around the £10 a month charge.

i think its shocking though that sky sports is still so high. For £25 i'd expect all the channels, all in HD and a christmas card from murdoch. it is off putting the price.

I understand a lot of people do want HD channels and money isnt an object etc but i couldnt myself rationalise paying an extra ten quid just for the channels to be in HD.

The HD charge on Sky is for all HD channels not just Sports & Movies. If Virgin was to up I would suggest they would need to do something with the XXL package to compensate and they won't do that.

If Sky Atlantic has fallen out of the negotiations along the way, maybe this is HBO?? Unfortunately, all the content is likely to be provided on a 'pay per view' basis, which would be incredibly expensive and not acceptable to me. I would be ecstatic if VM managed to pull off a deal based on a subscription (even if we could only obtain the first run stuff on PPV).

They're already doing it my source has said on more than one occasion the XL pack is slowly moving to being VMs version of Skys HD pack, all sd channels are going to move into the L or m+ pack, also a very basic pack is to launch called Moretv this will offer Sky1 and a handful of other channels ontop of the TVM pack.
Moretv will sit just between tvm and tvm+, also other new packages are coming too including a HD pack for about £5 extra pm (price not confirmed) you can have the hd channels relevant to your pack, say for example you have tvm+ you can get sly1hd etc for a extra £5p/m (price not confirmed).

All3Media sold to Discovery and Liberty Global in deal worth £500m.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...ty-global-deal

Quote:

Skins and Midsomer Murders maker All3Media has been sold to US media giants Discovery and Liberty Global in a deal thought to be worth more than £500m.

Discovery Communications, which last month pulled out of the Channel 5 auction, and Virgin Media-owner Liberty Global will be joint owners of All3Media.

The sale price is significantly less than the £750m-plus that All3Media had originally sought when it went up for sale in 2011.

I too heard about them considering an HD pack a while ago, (think I posted it on here). The price being mooted was £5 per month, so it looks like they have decided to go ahead. Not heard anything about More TV , but have previously heard about them morphing XL into their version of the full HD pack.

Why would it need to go up on VM ? The Sky Sports/Sky Movies HD charge on Sky is £5.25.

I'm fine keeping XL package just for the hd channels as i'm already paying that. do we think the sports HD will move into XL and additional charge for HD sports will be dropped???

i doubt this as everyones bill would go down but it'd be the dream wouldnt it...

Not quite, you need the basic HD first which costs £32 a month before you are allowed anywhere near the HD sports & movies.

No the £7p/m Sky premier hd charge is set by Sky themselves apparantly.

Look to be like Discovery and Liberty may add All3Media shows to DMAX or Quest or add them to Virgin on Demand.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2

Someone just threw a spanner into my works. My thinking was, that if these channels were to appear then the HD charge would increase from 7 to 10 pounds. But as someone says, the charge currently covers Sport and Movies. (I only take sport myself). But if I was a 'movies only' customer, I'd be enraged if they added £3 to my bill for nothing that I receive.

So the way I see it, the HD charge will either stay at £7 and include the new stuff or they'll introduce a separate £3 HD charge for the new channels only. In which case I doubt I'd take it as 95% of my SS viewing is on 1 or 2 anyway.

I think no new channels will launch this week.

Due to the following:

When Sky Sports 1 HD and Sky Sports 2 HD was launch back in 2010 Virgin Media moved Sky Sports 4 and Sky Sports News to new home a day before hand.

Q: WHERE WILL SKY SPORTS 3 HD, SKY SPORTS 4 HD AND SKY SPORTS F1 HD LAUNCH ON VIRGIN MEDIA?

A: My insider has not given me the channel numbers for them yet (As of May 7th). But Media Boy HQ thinks the following may happen.

Plan A)
519. Sky Sports 3 HD
520. Sky Sports 4 HD
521. Sky Sports News HD
522. Sky Sports F1 HD
523. EuroSport
524. EuroSport HD

Or plan B)
501. Sky Sports 1
502. Sky Sports 2
503. Sky Sports 3
504. Sky Sports 4
506. Sky Sports F1
508. Sky Sports News
511. Sky Sports 1 HD
512. Sky Sports 2 HD
513. Sky Sports 3 HD
514. Sky Sports 4 HD
516. Sky Sports F1 HD
518. Sky Sports News HD

Making the true cost to be able to obtain these channels as £37.25 a month on top of whatever it costs to take movies and sport

Thanks for that, it was a good find. This confirms the intention to offer a mid pack between M and M+. Unfortunately, on this tablet, whenever I try to enlarge the image it disappears! From what I could see there weren't any prices quoted, were there any?
