I'd quite like Virgin Media to get Sports Tonight Live! (http://www.sportstonightlive.com/) it's on Freeview HD but on Sky if I recall. It could compete with Sky's Gillette Soccer Saturday on Saturday 3PM football kick offs. And since it wouldn't require a sub, it could be very popular.

Shame virgin media doesn't carry MTV Classic, glad itv have bought the James Bond rights. I can't stand them clogging up the sky movies schedules.

Well we won't be getting MTV XMAS cause its replacing MTV Classic

Bond rights have been back with ITV since SM 007 closed in September, the Daniel Craig films have been on ITV 2.

If you are not able divulge details of channels on the list, what can you or anyone else on here tell us about the list itself?

Who produced the list and how high up the Virgin Media food chain are they?

Who has seen the original list and how high up the Virgin Media foot chain are they?

Is there any proof at all that this list exists or are we going from info from a friend of a friend of a friend?

How old is the list?

Are the channels on the list 100% set in stone to launch? (i.e. Is it a list of channel Virgin want to launch, or are going to launch?)

What is it that makes people so sure on here that the channels in the list will actually launch?

The list was given to me about FIVE weeks ago from one of my Ex-Rumour posters.

I think the key here off MB is "ex" rumour poster.

To be fair i'd rather have

CNN USA
FOX NEWS
Any german/french/holland national channels (which would need to do a BBC 1 HD job and go "black" whenever a premium show comes on air- which is fine)

I'd take those over sky atlantic and the HD variations any day

It is NOT actually on Freeview - although a (very) few Freeview boxes connected to the Internet can stream it.

It left Sky a long time ago - it looked like Soccer Saturday - but the presentation was very poor.

So i have two sources both telling me different things so i'm going to go out on a limb here and say "if the sky channels launch they launch , if not then they don't" the problem lately seems to be too many sources. I shall be getting rid of one or two of them.

I would like to see virgin stop actively hunting out sports channels as there a many of us, probably the majority who would rather have had the money they spent on BT sport used to get the missing sky channels or some other batch of channels.

Was onto retentions this morning as my £5 loyalty discount had expired and my latest bill had gone up to £84 they weren't able to do anything apart from reinstate the £5 loyalty. e mailed the CEO with a complaint, result £10 discount for 2 tivo, 1 v+, 60 mb broadband, xl TV and phone, feel that is a good result

Picked up TF1, Canal Plus and Canal Sport on Freeview in Reading recently. Lasted about 30 minutes and they were gone. Anyway try an app called FilmOn TV on Android. I watch a lot of France 2, 3 and 5 on it

The one who told me about ginxtv , bt sport and netflix rollout aswell as the channels such as fox , mtv , syfy being moved to lower packs i'm going to keep. The other two can do one lol.
However the one i'm keeping did not give me the channel list which is why i'm strongly doubting the list now. Unlike a certain bomber lol i won't go into hiding if what i say doesn't happen i will hold up my hands and happily say "yes i got it wrong."
However the source i'm keeping did say MGMGHD is defo coming but no date has been set yet.

Only News 18 and the new BBC HD Channels has been confirmed by Virgin insiders as coming by 2014 on Virgin Media.

News 18 was set to launch on November 14th but was put back due to the Netfix updates and no new launch date has been given to Media Boy HQ yet.

The Extra HD channels on Freeview streams are being rolled out across the UK over the next few months starting from 26th November 2013.

So I think the BBC will wait until December 10th (The date I was told by insiders) so that 50% of Freeview households will get them.

Freeview information thanks to a516digital.

I hope sincerely its possible VM can bring in something to swap HD channels over SD channels like sky. is it possible on the tivo box? i sometimes forget to even watch the HD version of a channel.

I find that I only watch shows that are on the HD channels, I even watch Father Ted on a HD channel :-)

My first port of call is the HD section when I'm looking for something to watch.

HD does make a difference but i'm not sure the comparison is noticeably marked on Virgin. I'd heard a while ago that Sky had dropped the bitrates on their SD channels to drive take up on their HD.

Not sure if this is true or not as I don't know many people with sky.

True the difference does seem even bigger between some channels. Haven't studied things to much recently but sky sports hd an sd the sd is quite a lot worse British eurosport was really bad at one point though huge difference between there sd and hd channel. And the BBC used to have the least difference between hd and sd might all be a little different now though or not.

I have Sky's HD movie channels and they are poor quality for something that's supposed to be premium product, I can see bad MPEG artifacts on the channels particularly during dark scenes or very bright colours.

I stated this in a separate thread a while back and wholeheartedly agree that I believe especially with sky sports their "SD" was not the same "SD" rate as others and thus not "standard"

With Sky you have to pay a extra £15 for BT Sports whilst with Virgin its free on the XL TV pack whilst also Netflix is available to VM subscribers at a price after their 6 months free offer ends.

No disrespect bud but you don't have to pay £15 for bt sports it's a choice personally I wouldnt and regards Netflix whilst it's great to have on TiVo it's available thru smart tv,ps3,Xbox,360 and wii just to name a few.just think apart from TiVo at the minute sky tv service is far better value for money if you get on a half price deal matey ;)

I was thinking it was just me!

I've priced up an equivalent package on Sky after receiving a mailing from them on the same day as our virgin price increase letter arrive - good marketing!

Moving to Sky would cost us around £20 per month extra and would result in our broadband speed being reduced by around two thirds! And that with a supposed 25% discount for a year - after that the price differential became even worse.

Good to hear that some people are getting good deals either to stay or move - it seems that our package means that we aren't one of them! Either that or we are already on a good deal.

The TV XL pack apart from the one missing channel SA which will arrive soon enough in the coming weeks combined which a far superior broadband offering and a STB with much superior functionality still make Virgin in my humble opinion the provider to be with and having BT Sports on top is a nice little bonus.

Virgin tv are gone at end of my contract they're at it again making offers on my account and not honuring them they can stick their tv where the sun don't shine lol.

I guess that is Virgin's real strong point, but it is starting to lose that advantage to BT and the others (including Sky).

I, too, am waiting for the letter before I call and cancel - Sky is going to be £15 a month cheaper AND I can now get FTTC.

I'm on a 12 month half price offer with Sky atm for tv that doesn't run out until August 2014 so losing VMs tv is no biggie.

We haven't had the price rise letter yet however I am starting to price up Sky TV, the thing is, I'd have to keep VM broadband and I like my 120mb which is pretty pricey on its own!

nicknewark 20-11-2013 14:19

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 6.

I personally don't think VM is expensive, in my case, i guess it depends if you want all the sport/movies etc, at the end of the day Pay TV/Broadband is a choice, if you don't want to pay it, don't have it.

In my experience, VM is way less expensive than SKY and I was with them for 11 Years, it would take a lot to make me even consider moving back to them.

Perfect Choice 20-11-2013 14:31

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 6.

Agreed, my triple play deal has a good discount I will lose if I break it up and even if I moved all 3 to Sky or BT, FTTC or Infinity 2 right now, means I can only get 45MB download at my post code, versus 60MB from VM now and 100MB next year. Don't like price rises and this one is getting close to a decision point admitedly, but that would be to downgrade my package rather than move. I expect VM are gong to be busy on that point now and in the New Year which should tell them they are reaching the maximum tolerance level of households with other bill increases on the way like gas/electricity. While earnings growth lags behind inflation, budgets will come under pressure and TV/BB is not as importnt as heating say.

That's good to hear. However this is not the case for everyone. And you are right, people have the choice, pay it or don't. Stick with virgin or don't.

I won't be, unless they can beat the deal I will get moving to Sky. That is the great thing about choice. :)

Personally I like all the various chat that goes on in here. There can be some quite informative information, not necessarily of what is coming soon, but of what is also doing rounds (offers etc.) from other tv providers that you wouldn't necessarily know about.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 6.

I think VM offer pretty reasonable collections at a reasonable price and are in comparison to Sky on most of the basic bundles. The big difference comes if you have the Sky Premiums as with Sky they'll cost you £30 a month (+ £5.25 for HD) whereas VM have to charge £34.25 (plus £7.00 for HD) so a £4.25 (or £6.00 with HD) difference.
