Re: TV Anywhere Android App
One BIG problem 4.4 is not support :td:
After all this time Nexus 7 will not be supported great  J |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Oh that's not good, have you tried it?
|
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
It's in the notes on the app page and on the Virgin media page 4.4 not supported,
http://www.virginmedia.com/apps/andr...where/devices/ As most Nexus 7's have had the update unless you want to roll back to 4.3 it's a no go |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
I've just read it all now too, not too happy we will need to wait on an update!
|
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Yep very disappointed :(
Guessing rooted devices wont work either |

It's not an 'anywhere' app at all then. Crap. Edit: No Sky premium content either. That makes it a lot worse than crap! |

Streaming doesn't work on my phone - which makes it no better than TiVo Commander which we had 18 months ago. In fact TiVO Commander was a lot quicker.
Managed to get streaming to work on my sons tablet, but it streams very few channels (mainly the UKtv ones). It doesn't stream Sky channels like Sky Go does. Very disappointing. |

I have a Galaxy S3. I don't see the app in the play store. Is it not available for this phone?
|
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
It apparently can take up to 24 hours (according to Google) for it to reach all servers that run the Play Store.
|

Ok cheers.

Re: TV Anywhere Android App
When I had VM TV and the iOS app what I hated was not being able to view over a 3G/4G signal. Since moving to Sky and having Sky Go now, I am finally able to watch stuff anywhere I get a mobile signal. VM's lack of this feature is a real let down and in my opinion they need to rename it to something more appropriate as it certainly isn't TV Anywhere, unless you've always got a wifi/bb connection.
|
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
I couldn't find it on the Play Store either, try the below:-
Put http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ in your browser Enter "com.virginmedia.tvanywhere" (with out the quotes) and click "Generate Download Link" You will need to enable "Unknown sources" in Settings -> Security. |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Well got it installed, glad it's here at last! Had a quick play and it looks good. My phone is on wifi at work and streaming is working on my Samsung S3 mini so a good start. The lack of Sky Sports streaming is a big miss for me though.

All this time waiting and I'll have to wait some more as Kitkat is not supported.
Also, to those complaining about no streaming over 3/4G, wasn't there a post possibly in this thread saying if you tether your phone to your tablet you can use said tablet to watch TV anywhere?? When I read that I thought it was a great loophole ;) |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Looks like I'll only be missing out on an overhyped remote control anyway because it says my HTC One X+ isn's supported for streaming.
Christ, what an absolute shambles. |

At least my wife's s3 is supported save her using my iPhone to change the sodding channel.

I knew there had to be a muck up. They release an app that according to what it supports should have been out a few months ago. I hope they update it fast so it supports 4.4, or it won't be much use to a lot of people.

Anyone know if this is likly to ever work on the Kindle HD Fire?
I know its not on the supported list, so wont do right now, just wondering as we cant access the google play store on the Fire if it's likly to be anything we ever get? (for what it's worth - the US app supports Kindle Fire) Cheers T |

Kids view using the iPad tethered from my iPhone, I'm on Three with unlimited data and tethering included in the plan. Works fine so I can't understand the reason they don't allow you to use it over 3G/4G. I've even had a laptop, 2 iPads and another iPhone all using my connection at the same time and TVAnywhere still worked on the iPad. |

I'd be fuming and gutted if it was me. At least it works well enough on my S3. Though not sure I'd use it much over the ipad's version. Still it's good to have the option and to be able to record when I'm out. Hopefully they'll update it for 4.4 soon. |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Yep all my nexus devices updated last week to 4.4, so all useless with this app.

And yet the BBC iplayer works brilliantly with every new upgrade to Android.

Re: TV Anywhere Android App
I have a funny feeling it won't be updated for Kitkat until Jan/Feb 2014 when the likes of HTC and Samsung roll out their version of KitKat. Then there will be more pressure to get it updated.
I can see where VM are coming from, get the app released for the majority and hope the minority don't complain too much. AFAIK it is only the Nexus devices running Kitkat so they are hoping for damage limitation. |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Quote:
However, I have to say the link you provide hardly causes any major issues. This does seem like a poor launch from VM. For the amount of time it has taken, it would have been nice to see more devices supported. I feel very sorry for the many customers who are with Virgin Mobile are missing out on a pretty decent bit of kit. |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Smacks of desperation, and poor coding, that an app is not compatible with the latest version of android. Especially as it is designed to be as backward compatible as possible.
Someone realised they said it would be released in 2013, and hit the panic button. I am in software development and see this all the time. The problem of using the cheapest contractor, sometimes, you need to bite the bullet and release the project to someone else. |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Daaaargh!
It says this app is incompatible with my device. Galaxy Note. I don't have any interest in the streaming side of it, but all this time I've wanted a replacement for Tivo Commander. And one of the more popular phones isn't supported, even for remote control. You couldn't make it up... |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App
My Nexus 4 is prompting me to upgrade to kitkat, i also have a kindle fire.
No streaming over 3G, as i said before, meh :( |

Re: TV Anywhere Android App
You won't need the app if you have an android tablet that can use the latest FlashPlayer in the Firefox Browser..and have Wifi.
I sadly only have one of the above. Never mind at least the 4OD,iPlayer and ITV apps work on the Android. Can only hope Desmond gets around to a Channel 5 android app. I'm just not going to get a tivo. That blackmail is not going to work. |

Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Oh, FFS! Not compatible with Kitkat!
This is what happens when development takes far too long. God knows how many Android updates Google have pushed out since this app was first announced 3 years ago. 4.4 wasn't exactly a state secret either and my existing video apps work just fine with it on my Nexus devices. Will it be another 3 year wait until the app gets updated for Android 4.4? |
Re: TV Anywhere Android App

Not denying it will need to be compatible, but only the Nexus devices have KitKat at the moment, so it's not a huge issue either Quote:

Re: TV Anywhere Android App
Could anyone still running 4.3 on Nexus 10 or who has a different compatible 10 inch tablet please extract the apk and share it on here.
I have managed to sideload it and it works on 4.4 on Nexus 10 but I can only seem to get hold of phone version online which is stuck in portrait mode. The page says the version varies with device so there must be a tablet version which should install on a compatible device. Thanks in advance. |

Most Nexus devices have only had the update within the last 14 days or so, but the TVA app will have been in testing before then. So to test against all the Nexus devices with 4.4 would have meant pushing back the app launch. |

whats the point in this since you need wifi? at least sky lets you use 3g/4g and doesn't lag at all so they can't use that as an excuse, plus you cant even watch sports which is all i care about.
