I've got the last two seasons in my shows, having seen the first four on DVD. I just need Netflix to bridge the gap.

Pretty good I would say you could always try the 1 month free trail then if it's not for you cancel it.

There are alot of exclusive films that are not on Sky Movies. e.g. Hunger Games and exclusive series like House of Cards and Arrested Development.

Cut sky movies and add netflix, saving maybe £20 a month, cut sky sports and stick with BT-Sports free on XL saving another £15-£20, then cut the Sky premium HD saving £7, reduce BB speed to saving maybe another £5,

You potentially saved £60 month. Pay TV is not maybe too expensive, you're just buying services you can't afford. Use the options Virginmedia offer to get most of what you want, we can't always have EVERY thing we want.

Its all about what suits each household and their needs but in our household as there are several of us and each of us decide what we want and then pay towards the bill accordingly but for some on lesser incomes then obviously people have to cut their cloth accordingly l would say.

l would also advice people to look around as there are always deals out there that can save some quite a bit per month.

Didn't say I couldn't afford it was just saying its probably a lot higher than most people pay because I don't have any retentions deals or anything, only I would consider cutting would be sports maybe, I like my broadband speed for obtaining 'media' from the internet and my kids are always watching movies. There is no chance I'd drop my additional TiVo either. Thanks for pointing out where I could save money though, I'll bear it in mind in case my financial situation changes :)

In the end, though, it's only £5.99 per month, and when you look at all the content on there, well worth it!

It won't switch between SD and HD. If you select multiple inputs it only uses one of them. Ideally it would leave the user to decide what they want the TiVo to do. The info button has the options as they should be but unfortunately somebody thought it would be a good idea to change them!

Netflix is very good but the removal of eight minutes from every episode of Hustle is awful. Why cannot they use the full versions? The cuts are appallingly badly done....

The cuts won't be anything to do with Netflix. They don't always get a choice of which version they can get the rights to. And there are many versions of any given show.

I've not tried Netfix, but after the update and in the OnDemand section, when you go down a list it no longer displays info on the highlighted show to the right (under tivo logo) you have to select the show to go to the next page to see the info.
The rest is great.

You can select high contrast guide/info bar which turns them black instead of red.

Question: You can now select 1080p pass through only. What does that mean?

If the source is 1080p, the TiVo can pass this through as 1080p to the HDMI. But it can't upscale lower resolution sources to 1080p.

At the moment Netflix is the only 1080p source available.

What suggested that you needed a high broadband speed to use Netflix on your PS3?

Via your TiVo, you are accessing Netflix via the TiVo's onboard internet connection, which is only 10Mb.

pengedragon 02-11-2013 10:43

Re: TiVo Update / Netflix

always had trouble getting a decent speed to my ps3 via whatever method i tried

only way i could be certain netflix would be smooth was to bump up the connection, dont need to do that now

Re: TiVo Update / Netflix

My Tivos are a lot faster, typing in search and the results are super fast.

Now the Discovery bar is only 4 "squares", I have not seen any ads on it.... yet. I do kind of miss the old Discovery bar as I used to scroll along it and get ideas, although the new one seems to refresh itself which is still good.

I have 2 Cisco and 1 Samsung. The Cisco boxes seem to be connecting to the network more? Up to now they are connecting every 4 hours or so, if this is the case it might help with channel schedule changes.

Hasn't the Tivo got dual core thingys? Has the second one been activated to make it faster?

Ive got the update and wow,

The tivo is much faster, the menus flow better. When you delete things it does it when your viewing tv or the tivo is idle.

Youtube app on my phone makes the tivo auto launch youtube to watch videos im watching.

First time using netflix, 1080p is nice.

jobbie8 02-11-2013 19:41

It won't. There still aren't any 4KTV chipsets in mass-production, never mind three years ago when the current TiVo boxes were designed.

Ok thanks. The screenshots provided by spiderplant suggest the ui is now similar to the ui on the new TiVo Roamio. With people claiming noticeable improvements in speed following the update I wondered how close it was to the very latest TiVo hardware, but the Netflix startup time on the Roamio is 8 seconds whilst the Premiere is 40 - which is much closer to what you report. So it seems perhaps our TiVo is now working smarter in some respects, but not necessarily faster. Which is still good.

My suggestions are now nothing I would ever watch since the update lol. Also is there going to be a more user friendly fast forward and skip to a certain place on a recording? Like on the normal V+ box as it is so much better than the TiVo system.

It was 20w on, 18w standby because of the amount of work TiVo continues to do when it's in standby. I think there are power saving features in the new update though?

Re: TiVo Update / Netflix

One thing doing my head in about this latest update is the power saving mode, anyone know if there is a way to turn it off?

Interesting cos the link to what it entails above clearly states you switch the mode on not need to turn it off.....

To change the default to use of one the other energy saving modes or to switch this off go to Help & Settings > Settings > Devices > Power Saving Settings
However, if you press power on the remote, it still goes into the standby setting

Yes, it's now about 12W in standby.

You can't stop it going into low-power mode when in standby. If you want it to keep buffering, simply don't put it into standby.

(Or do you mean they are going into standby by themselves?)

No, I meant when I put it into standby mode myself. I will just have to leave it on. Thank you for the reply.

Well that's anybodys guess Paddy but hopefully you should get it by the end of November at the very least.

Had a Tivo update last night in Sussex but no appearance of the Netflix app. Is this correct.

Found it not in apps but on the search and browse menu

Update arrived in Mansfield NG18 . . . but I can't remember our Netflix password! Must wait to consult the account holder. Most frustrating.

Thanks Spiderplant and Dav1d. Did that just in case and there it was. Not in apps just in the search and browse main menu.

Am in the BN area if that helps anyone wanting to know what area was updated last night.

Is this still part of the trial or the start of the rollout?
