I've seen this too, it is on you view now. however, I thought the iplayer issue was being resolved by VM on 20th January.

There is no single iplayer issue. If you have been quoted a date of 20th January, that could be the planned date for a network capacity upgrade in your area.

Actually not local date- nationally, from vm themselves. vm have a fault on iplayer utilisation which should be fixed by then, but in the past the date was extended.

Who at VM told you this? Did they give you a fault ticket number?

That's the one for the local issues.

Spider I know you work for VM. I've been working with technical support an engineers on the iplayer and VOD issues for sometime. They shared information from VM emails etc, which clearly stated the 20th as to resolve the iplayer issue. But I was warned the date had been moved before.

Spiderplant, you know that we have high regard for the advice and assistance that you provide on this forum, and you should know that this is very much appreciated by us.

I think it is fair to say that some are not getting any problems with the I-player but a substantial number of us are.

Do you think we should passively wait for this to be resolved or should we be reporting this fault to Customer Services?

I for one don't wish to be clogging up the system with complaints if the matter is already being dealt with!

It's worth giving them a call, if only to get your signals checked out.

I'm still hopeful that the new iPlayer will be more tolerant of bandwidth issues, but that remains to be seen.

that may not help the utilisation issues, I think this is a disagreement with the Beeb and VM on bandwidth to servers.

A cursory glance over the VM support forum, and there's a noticeable increase in VM responses that are admitting utilisation problems.

Sounds like networks are going to be kept busy keeping up! I wonder how long it'll take to clear them all up.....

So why keep signing up punters to oversubscribed areas and making the problem worse ?? (Silly me, why am I asking that......)

BBC1 HD totally unusable last evening. More buffering than a railyard.

my issues have been ongoing. I've been waiting a year for an upgrade. they tell you to call up every single month for refunds which is bloody annoying i dont know why they cant just do a refund indefinitely until they fix it...

tonight i'm getting 11mb and im meant to be on 150...

Because the billing system has no way of knowing when it has been fixed.

Digging up an old thread but it was the first one my Google search landed on.:)

IPlayer loads and works very quickly on our V6 box but is taking an age or just not loading at all on the older TiVo box, any solutions?

Jim

For what its worth, my old TiVo was doing my head in. It was no longer fit for purpose. It just did not seem to have the capacity to deal with streaming services, although Netflix was stable for me, albeit a bit slow to load.

Some may give you advice about disabling the thumbs up/down facility, etc, but none of that made any difference to my box. My advice would be to replace your TiVo with a second V6. You will be able to link the two together by wifi then and get far better performance to boot.

Tell me about it, I did call retentions a while back when I was paying even more.

Currently on Full House (XL) TV, Vivid 200 BB and one phone line on Talk more Int.
One V6 box and one earlier TiVo box.

Obviously your best bet now is to wait until the end of your contract and tell them you are leaving as you have found better deals elsewhere , That usually work for us and that way its up to them to offer you a much better deal then you have currently got.

How long have you got left on your contract?

Obviously if they raise their prices which they usually do in the few months then you have the option of cancelling your contract and taking it from there.

£131 does seem a heck of an amount for that.

I'm on almost identical package - Full House (XL) TV, Vivid 200 BB and but with Talk More Anytime, with one V6 box and one TiVo box. Pay £52.50 with Line rental paid upfront, so effectively £71.50. There is £18 of discounts on it, but even taking those off it would come to £89.50. If its right, Talk More Int. sure costs a lot.

btw i find IPlayer on the old Tivo slow to load up, but when it starts streaming it's ok, unlike the old days when it was crap.

My last TiVo would stutter, stop and just give up altogether with the i-Player. I gave up using it in the end.

With the V6, it works perfectly and I use it quite a lot now.

I don't know if this has been mentioned on here before, but on the iplayer does it now play in SD or HD?
There used to be a button to choose between them but that seems to have gone awhile ago.

It doesn't say, but on most people's it will do something abpve SD, it will do 1080p HD on most material. I think these days iPlayer auto-adapts to the connection speed. The other two BBC apps you can choose between two levels (something like good and best) but I'm not at a TV to check.

Yes. iPlayer uses HD adaptive streaming on compatible devices - which include the V6 and TiVo

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/h...ck#bestquality

Best Quality is also the default option

Why does I-player prompt me to login to my account when I try to use catch-up through my V6 box?

This doesn't happen on my sky box.

Re: BBC iplayer problem

You don't have the iPlayer app on the Sky box.

You have download access to some of the iPlayer content - but it is not the app.

I didn't say it was the app, I just don't see the necessity of signing in on the V6 - I am fairly certain I didn't used to.

No, but you only need to do it once, quick and easy to do.

ozsat 26-05-2019 21:47

Re: BBC iplayer problem

My point was you are not using BBC iPlayer on the Sky box.

It was added within the past couple of months that you have to sign in on all devices that use BBC iPlayer. But I've never had to re-sign in.

It's part of the closing of the iPlayer loophole as agreed with the government a few years back

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36942458

So to ensure that the BBC know who is using iPlayer, the app requires a sign in.

Sky currently doesn't, as they're using their own delivery system so already know who is accessing the content. If or when they get the full iPlayer app, you'll also need a BBC account for then too.

Big up to VM and a double result for me. They are coming next week to replace our old style TiVo box to give us a second V6 at no extra charge. And from August when my current contract expires they are reducing my monthly payments by £30.:)

Just hoping they have sorted the dreadful broadband service of late. Well over 20 outages in past month, once or twice a day recently. Has been ok for five days now so fingers crossed.;)

Happy Jim.
