ok but infinity generally doesnt have area problems like VM has, it doesnt have random areas which stay oversubscribed for months on end.

If AmAtoL is generally interested in whats going on then he can get the game server ip, do a mtr/trace from both of his connections and compare.

Sure, but as I said it really is a bit of a postcode lottery. The catch is that there's really no way to know without trying. Even though Virgin is poor more often than Infinity, for someone who hasn't tried either, that's not particularly helpful information.

The postcode lottery with infinity is line quality/length aka sync speed/stability. At least tho the surprise element is reduced with estimated speeds.

I am more interested in seph's linestats tho, hoping he hooks his new modem up soon.

Thanks Chrys. Earliest I get home is Thursday but likely I'll do the biz Saturday morning. TBB is running though. This what I want to change so that the added latency is removed.

Thanks guys, while Infinity is not "terrible" I personally can't justify it anymore for gaming, it just isn't that much (£40) better than VM.
As for actual stats I can get 38 down and 8 up all day long, which to the normal user
is brilliant :0 no issue with that at all.
I play FPS games online every night and have done so for the last 14 years, I have tried Infinity and now I can let it go with no regrets, that is all really.
Gaming depends on so many variables and each one relies on the other to give a good experience at this end, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but my PC doesn't change every night.
It just turns out that the comparison between the two for me is that they are pretty equal and not a night and day difference.

Was cheaper than VM here. Certainly can't see Infinity being £40 more if that's what you're implying, the highest priced Infinity package can be had for £37.75 all in.

It's a second line for gaming that I pay roughly £120 a quarter for, so it's a luxury, but not so much of a luxury that it's worth the extra money, if you see what I mean :)

We're going on 120 meg shortly, unless the missus can persuade them to put an extra line in for me, I won't hold my breath on that though.

Been thinking of upgrading to the 30 meg package deal but if it's my PC where the problem lies there's no point until I sort it out.

That's a really old slow CPU btw: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?...lon+64+3700%2B

Pushing your CPU that far on a Windows machine where any task or driver could suddenly spike is just asking for trouble, let alone trying to use it over the internet. 98% CPU utilisation is just asking for lag.

Advice from ex game developer: Get a new(er) machine!

Have you tested without running TS3?
