There are apps I'm using for 2.2 which work just fine for 4.2

I'm happy to be corrected, To be honest I hadn't checked since January when Jellybean was just hitting 10%. KeyLimePie is due soon aswell isn't it.

2.2? Wow lol....That must be a crappy handset (Ignore me,I'm a tech head and currently have a Nexus 4, a Galaxy S4 and a iPhone 5) but that's not what this thread is about, its about TV anywhere which currently only runs on iOS.:D

What, like a Nexus 4?

You've missed the point - a properly written app for 2.2 can work just fine for 4.2.

I'm well aware that TVA is on iOS. This thread (as far as I'm aware) covers all versions on that app on all platforms.

Are you trying to say you have a Nexus 4 running Android 2.2? Becuase the Nexus 4 shipped with 4.1 Jellybean and has since been updated to I think 4.1.2 Jellybean. Jellybean is not all that good and project butter is better but still not great.

All said and done the app once again is not working again tonight, the MRS is a huge let down and makes me regret swapping my Samsung V+ for a 2nd TiVo. So for Android people your not missing out :)

Correction it's working now! But shows you it's hit and miss.

Are you trying to say you have a Nexus 4 running Android 2.2?

No, my Nexus runs 4.2

My point is that the 'fragmentation' issue you raised isn't an issue with a decently coded app.

If VM were to release TVA and it didn't run OK on 5.0 then, well.....I'd be disappointed in the development team working on TVA.

53% of devices are on at least 4.0:

I agree, it is silly, SkyGo runs on Android but only on SOME devices. I know I get peev'd when 1 day it works on our Nexus 7 Tablet and the next it stops working due to an update until Sky just give trying. It ALWAYS works on our iPhones and iPads.

Nope, rather less fragmentation so easier to develop for. Even the BBC say so

The BBC doesn't unfairly prioritise Apple's iOS platform when it comes to iPlayer updates, the Beeb's regulatory body has decreed.

In response to a complaint from 2011 that was escalated to the Trust last year, the watchdog has decided that the 'complexity and expense' of developing apps for Android means it's only fair that updates arrive later.

Can't understand VM's MRS restrictions on recordings. Just read about a Panasonic Blu Ray/HDD recorder which allows you to watch TV recordings on other devices connected to the network.

Come on VM - sort this out ASAP!

[EDIT - the above feature may be restricted in some regions, but maybe someone could confirm if it works in the UK?]

Panasonic just make the box - they have no agreements with the broadcasters

Virgin Media do, so have to comply with what the broadcasters wish.

Although, personally I agree it's a bit silly - MRS doesn't cause any copying issues, if anything it would be likely to reduce them

Virgin Media are well aware of how big Android is - however market share wasn't the reason VM's iOS app was released first.

TiVo released their iOS app first, so that is why VM could. Nothing more complicated than that.

Whatever the reason is, VM should have released the Anywhere App for Android by now. I can't think of any viable reason why it still isn't available.

Was searching around for the upcoming Al Jazeera UK channel and I landed on the old press release about the current ones launching on VM. The PR says "Both channels courtesy of Al Jazeera will be available on Virgin Media’s TV Anywhere in 2013".

Is 3g/4g mobile playback on the app still coming soon too? Find it hard to believe that there is no android app still and even the apple users can only use it on wifi.

Thought VM would have tried to keep up with Sky with these type of things.

VM have more channels, boxsets and on demand on their streaming app than Sky?

Even if this was the case, VM are still way behind as their android customers, which are a larger percentage than apple users now, cant use any of them channels anyway. The ios users are also restricted to wifi compared to sky's app which works over mobiles data network too.

So saying that VM has more channels does not counter the argument that VM don't care so much about the streaming side of things

With the limited data allowances on most peoples 3G tarrifs, watching streaming video over 3G can be a very short experience per month before you reach your cap

I fail to see how more live streaming channels shows that they care less than Sky about streaming.

Plus of course Sky Go has on demand, because (apart from Channel 4) every on demand channel they offer on the app, Sky operate.

Sky allow you to stream over 3g/4g and let the customer choose if they wisb to do so. Many have the so called unlimited data on their mobile, like the Three contract I am on. There is no reason I can see for Virgin not to allow their customers to do the same. Probably comes down to them not investing in this area as the lack of android app shows. Which comes backto my original question about how much VM are bothered about offering streaming to it's customers

The answer is no, nobody can explain it. Over a year ago the then ceo said they have the app and it works, towards the end of last year a go live date of the first part of this year was given. Yet still nothing.

Actually the previous poster was more accurate. Both iOS and Android are 2 different operating systems. Much like how a lot of Windows applications don't work on a Mac. It's the exact same thing.

The android one has to be developed, however they are clearly not 100% happy with it to release it yet. Be it there is a problem or something else.

Yes, more accurate, it is the most simple and basic answer. The way it was questioned was why cant the iOS app work on Android?

Also you said the former CEO had a "working app" about a year ago. Well TVAnywhere was announced November 7th 2012, with the words "an android app coming soon"...

No, the "way it was questioned" was "can anyone explain why...?" and I'm the only one who gave an answer to that specific question, on the basis of my understanding of the question, which the op has confirmed was correct. The answer is no, they can't. And further, Virgin aren't even trying to anymore.

Re: TV Anywhere App

What browser do I need to use the TV Anywhere service?

Currently when I go to the site I get an Unsupported Browser message

Quote:

Limited Features

Sorry, this service is not optimised for your browser, and you will be unable to watch video and have access to all the features available.
I am using Chromium on XUbuntu, can I view TV Anywhere on this PC?

I would like to get TV Anywhere set up on my PC in the office.
