Hit and miss is good

Re: Will Virginmedia ever match Sky's channel line up?

Would have liked to see a few of these shows actually. That new Sorkin drama should be quite good.

I can see why Sky would want to keep it exclusive but I can also see the merit behind the channel having more viewers and therefore more ad revenue.

Sky could placate us a little by airing these shows in six or twelve months time on Sky1. Or let them go to a FTA channel after a while. That way they'd still get those people who want see things before anyone else but keep those of us willing to wait happy too.

borrissey 21-06-2012 23:51

I think Sky Atlantic is better than Virgin1 was.

Or, you could join Sky, as I suspect then they would want to keep you happy :D

I would if they had Tivo.

Well thats one thing they did have and l suspect to this day that is one of their biggest regrets in that they decided to sever all ties with TiVo.

Re: Will Virginmedia ever match Sky's channel line up?

You're not exactly right there, dp.

All Sky ever did was provide UK Customer Services for the product.

However, yes, they did indeed completely screw Tivo over when they pulled-out to launch their own, inferior, product.

And the nicest thing about that original Tivo was that it was platform independent and would therefore work with Analogue, DTT, Sky or cable.

How long is VM contract with TiVo ?
Who knows if in the future SKY may sign up to TiVo.
Would I then jump ship. I really don`t know

Sky have no chance of signing up with TiVo as it is a exclusive long term UK partnership deal between Virgin and TiVo.:)

l can assure you there will be no breaking of the long contract by neither of these companies but l am afraid Victor being Victor there will always be some doubt in his mind.;)

"never say never" :p:

I really do not care that much, how or with what I watch/record my TV. Systems are always being improved or a totally new way is brought to the market place.
What really bugs me is .Paying for services I have no wish for ( that`s life!)
A lot of what is on TiVo falls with in that remit.
I was more or less happy with the V+ which met my needs & desires. If I had at the time been offered a second V+ on the terms ( bribe?) of taking TiVo I would be quite happy. Or even just the terms & no second box would have worked for me.
What really annoys me is HAVING to take a phone line to get other services ( from whom ever it may be) As it is the one thing I do not use much ( monthly call cost between 50p & £2)

With Virgin Media, you do not have to take the phone service.

It is sometimes true that the Bundles aka Collections will give you a cheaper price than the same TV and BB combination but that is goodness not badness in terms of having to 'pay' for a landline that you don't use.

Actually, nothing that is on Tivo falls within that remit at all. Tivo is a system to record and watch TV. That's it. All the OD stuff, etc. is Virgin Media, not Tivo.

Nothing you described after the above sentence is specific to Tivo.

You don't have to have your phone line with SKY either

carlwaring 17-11-2012 20:02

Re: Will Virginmedia ever match Sky's channel line up?

No, but (last I heard) you do need a land-line; certainly for a multi-room setup. Again, unless that's changed since.

And you most certainly do for their broadband.

Sorry, have realised I was wrong. You have to have the Sky box connected to phone line for first 12 months

For Sky Anytime when it was first released you needed to have Sky BB but not any longer. You also don't need to have it connected to a telephone service only a BB service of your choice.

Back to the original question, no chance will VM ever match Sky's tv line up. Not trying to goad anyone or justify whether the extra channels or content are any better just stating a fact. Ive been with VM for three months now after 13 years with Sky and for me (again it's a personal preference) Sky is better and I will be returning to them at the first opportunity. However the reason I will be going back is not really anything to do with the above it's because of the truly shocking customer service VM provide. In three months I've placed 15 fault calls and had 5 engineer visits and I don't think I'm alone with this kind of service.

Your in luck, your first opportunity might be around about now. If you are getting a price increase to your current package in February, and have been notified by mail or e-mail, you can leave Virgin and go back to SKY. Click on the link below for info on how to do it.

In six years I've not have one engineer out for a fault and barely called 151 either for any major issues; and I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

Now, I wonder how many people who have Sky can say either of those.

My point being, of course, that it's six of one and half-dozen of the other and no-one is "right."

For sky, no calls for faults

Had Virgin, did phone them, broadband issues
