re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
They made a general release of the one with the streaming bug despite being told about it by a number of people in the testing forum. That was because they felt they had to shut down telnet and ssh access and didn't care about the consequences. I thought this latest fiasco suggested they may have at least learned some lessons although as Chrysalis said they could have published the known bugs alongside the test release.

re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
This is a total shambles from VM, absolute joke....

could someone please explain the firmware. not whats in it but who codes/builds it? is each firmware costing them or it is part of the deal for the SH with Netgear? is the deal so crappy that 1 lone monkey is working on it or is a team supporting the Netgear SuperHub? Whats VMs take on it, position? this is too shoddy to be true, somethings not right here. |
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
Virgin go through NetGear, who then go through whoever else who's hardware (such as wireless card etc, modem) which makes up the unit, to hazard a guess. Whoever puts the firmware together, i don't know, perhaps netgear themselves.

Quote:
People here are quick to assume netgear is completely at fault here, But it could be entirely possible the original netgear base firmware in fact didn't have many bugs and was tested properly... But that it is vm stripping bits out, adding bits in, tweaking it here and there to suit their requirements that has made it unstable in some ways.. Ok the wireless range isn't great, and it's a cheap bit of hardware... But again it was not cha choice of vanity that brought about the shape... Netgears stock product looks completely different.. And without an original to compare aide by side, it could well be vm grinding down the price which has also led to cheaper components being used, and rubbish cheapie internal aerials etc |
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
The stock firmware on my wndr3700 seemed to be pretty decent although I didn't spend much time with it before flashing dd-wrt. The hardware is definitely great though.
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
There is an original to compare side by side, and people say that's crap too.
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
This whole firmware fiasco might be down to something as simple as instructions lost in translation between VM who speak no Chinese and a Chinese coder in a backroom somewhere relying on Google translations. :D
|

Or a monkey who speaks no Human and Hoominz that speak no Monkey.

Same, but mine said 19th, hope to see some improvements!
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
Add me to the list, Might mean i can move off modem mode. :)
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
Mine says 19th too. But lastweek i rang up VM to reactivate my VMNG300.
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
Mine is also for the 19th. Going to have to retire the DIR-615 (probably temporarily though). Ho hum, we'll see.
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
Yeap, 19th here, but I've gone back to my VMNG300, so I'll have to pass on this one :)
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
19th here as well
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
me too
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
19th here too. Seems the majority is on the 19th...
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
Would hate to be on the 16th.. At least being on the 19th means that if there's a major issue they've got 3 days to pull it before the majority of us get the beta
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
did you guys and girls get a PM?
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
No email
|
re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
19th here too. I am going to move mine out of modem mode tonight so that I can compare the differences. I need to be reminded of the reasons why I went into modem mode before I get R36!

Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
RIP Superhub, for it will never receive the R36 firmware it has been accepted to BETA test.

Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
Brace yourselves, recline and think of England (awful misquote I know). We'll find out in due course. How long is this trial scheduled to last? They have a month to prove that it's a proper fix or we will be very unhappy. VMNG300 will be the only resolution :D
|
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
they have had enough time to bum around with this one so if it doesnt work they are going to look like a right bunch of muppets.

|
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
just got the update,, apoligies for wrong date previously..
and WOW, they have completely revamped the interface.. removed all signs of it being netgear lol |

I can already tell that they've made some terrible decisions. It looks like they've taken a few things out. I can't find a way to see the provisioned downstream/upstream speeds. |
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
I'm liking the UI!
|
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
looks sexy, lets hope the performance matches.
Ive been holding off installing world of warcraft for the new firmware.. now to see if the superhub reset's while downloading. |

|
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
can confirm they have removed the ability to see provisioned speed :(
probably because too many people was complaining they wasnt on the 10mbit upload lol |
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
me too, first impression is a what a horrible interface
its made navigation harder and all its done is look a little prettier |
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
nope, look closely, they have massively improved it!! click router status top right
|
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)

is it normal to have this many pre RS errors?

All rights reserved. it says at the bottom... wonder if this was the firmware that "should" of been on the superhub from day 1, but due to VM rushing it out, they just tweaked the netgear interface as a quick fix until this was ready.. hmm i can confirm, that the provisioning details are still available. As mentioned previously its under router status.. but you need to be logged out to get to it. heres the url link, http://192.168.0.1/VmRouterStatus_configuration.asp |

do they all check regardless?
|
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
just got it too and also noticed they have removed the ability to see the provisioned speed, that is not a very good move at all to be honest. either it's on purpose or an accidental oversight. but I think the former is more likely.
I quite like the new UI but it will take a little getting used to. aha I see where you can see the provisioned speeds now, interesting way of doing it, but I think it should be under advanced also. |

Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
Got mine in the last half hour as well looks ok. but have not been added to the beta part of the virgin fourm yet. also why am i on a beta version of the boot code as well which is 2.3.0beta7
|
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
no idea, lol even more stranger is why at the bottom it is dated 2010
makes me wonder how long this firmware has been sitting around.. and whether it was the original intended firmware.. with everything previously being a "quick fix" |
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
didn't see that well spotted
|
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)
Hi all,
I have just received the new firmware. Turned of modem mode as I was using a very old router which was stopping me get max speeds. All I hope is that that router does not require resetting every day. |

i like the interface. its a bit too heavy for my phone but on an actual PC/Laptop it looks very nice.
Firewall protection.. low/medium/high ? wireless rate/mode.. upto 300 - Enable OBSS ? |
Re: R36 Firmware Beta Test (was R35)

Up to 144Mbps so OBSS is not an option - this was by default. I do wonder what are the best settings. |

changing firewall settings on mine made no difference.
turned it off, and now have it on high speed is consistent :) https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/06/29.png sadly though i can only get that speed at off peak times, lol it went downhill.. they added 2 new channels which was fine for a while.. and now its back to not so good :( jitter for me also seems the same https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/06/30.png |
