Why wouldn't we discuss whether Olympic programming is coming at all for the majority of Virgin viewers.

I agree that Virgin has a duty to it's shareholders to make a profit but is it really correct that they can use public broadcasting to drive sales for Tivo. Shouldn't they do that by providing a first class service?

I think we have all paid for this content already in the licence fee.

I am very grateful that Media Boy has raised this issue with people within Virgin.

VM will provide coverage in line with the capability of the STB that the customer has.

All VM STBs are capable of receiving TV streams.

I would want to record all of the boxing that's shown whilst I'm at work. The boxing hardly ever gets main focus on either BBC1 or BBC2. In 2008 most of the action was tucked away on the red button facility. I expect the boxing to be mainly tucked away on one of the streams.

My wife used to be a gymnast and watches any gymnastics on TV. I'd imagine she'd want to record some of that action too.

Bot will they they show the extra 24 (48 including HD) in a recordable format, i.e. regular TV streams? Non recordable access is of very limited use to people who are out at work during the day. Expecting a service equal to Sky's is not an unreasonable thing to ask for.

Totally agree. I'm sure Virgin will run the channels out to non-TiVo customers. It's clear from this thread, and the Red Button thread, that we their paying customers want the channels and expect them to deliver. We want to be able to record the channels too. Surely TiVo, V+ and V boxes are on par if not better than the boxes on offer from SKY and Freesat? We've also been informed on numerous times that there are no capacity issues so there can't be much holding Virgin back from delivering what their customer base wants.

Quite clearly people will want to record some items that other people have no interest in. The opportunity to do more is always most welcome

That to me seems to be what is happening. There was nothing wrong with what VM were doing until the Satellite platform introduced these channels.

VH1 to carry on after April 23rd on Virgin Media???

DS Forum is reporting that MTV are now testing MTV Live SD out on Astra.

So it look like Virgin are only getting MTV Live in HD from April 23rd on Virgin Channel 310.

Lovefilm and Netflix offer a subscription option. VM's movies on demand is pay fer view only.

VM do have a sort of subscription service, the name of which I can't remember but it doesn't work in the same way as Netflix and Lovefilm.

That has to be the biggest WTF momemnt of the day.

So I take it that you do not watch a single show or movie that has any affiliation with News Corp?

Picture Box has recently been advertising this month's latest additions... Big Foot & The Hendersons... how old is that film!

It must be quite hard to watch TV/Movies avoiding anything even slightly connected to the Murdochs.

All Sky Sports
All FOX productions including Movies and the FX channel and spin offs 20th century TV, Searchlight.
All Sky branded channels
The Murdoch's have a big share in HBO

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 2.

I've just had a look at the Picturebox website. In fairness, the arrival of Bigfoot and the Hendersons does appear to be part of a general 80's themed event, but it is hard to justify a monthly sub of £4.99 when you compare that to what's available on LoveFilm and Netflix for not much more. Perhaps the arrival of those services on TiVo is being fought by Picturebox??? I couldn't see them (Picturebox) lasting for too long against such serious competition without drastically improving their offering.

Picturebox's revenue doesn't just come from VM it's on many other platforms and also connected TVs.

I know. Does that mean they won't be trying to protect their position in Virgin's line up?

It's not hard. I don't have any moral objection to watching their stuff, but it simply doesn't interest me.

Nothing made by Fox/Sky/HBO interests you? I must be far to low brow and tabloid as me an my family enjoy quite a few of their shows.

Sounds like freeview/freesat would work for you. Do you get TV from VM?

zantarous 08-04-2012 23:30

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 2.

Exactly what's the point of paying for cale just to watch the BBC? I got cable to watch stuff other then then the pap on the beeb.

spiderplant 08-04-2012 23:52

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 2.

I have Freeview as I don't live in a cabled area. Though I could happily live without TV at all. In fact I did do for a few years.

It's quite ironic really. :)

carlwaring 09-04-2012 00:11

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 2.

When I first moved into the place I am now, I had no broadband or phone and a barely usable Freeview signal for a while until NTL (as was) finally decided they could install.

I actually managed quite well finding stuff to watch and, although I'm sure I could easily do without the extra channels that I get through having cable, I'm happy to have them whilst I can afford it.

Would be completely lost without my broadband though :D

My partner gets TV from VM, but I only watch TV when I'am in my study for the morning news or PM's questions ( BBC 2 or BBC parliament ) really need to get a grip on life?

Yet you have almost 5000 posts on a TV service forum? If you watch so little TV why post here and not somewhere that fits in more with your interests?

The telecommunications industry, stock market and the TV industry are a query of mine. So I will post here as it interests me:)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 2.

My Son & his wife really seem to want to switch to Virgin for the TiVo. However, he is not, as there is as yet no "full" BBC red button - he will wait & see what "comes soon" The other half wants Atlantic *! So I can`t see them changing any time soon.
*Refuse to look at what it offers in case I get upset - we share the same tastes in shows & books.

There nothing Tivo or Virgin related in that link, it only mentions a iOS and Android app.

I found out about the app on the Virigin Media Preview Channel on Virgin Channel 100.

I was only posting the links for more info on what the app may look like.
