Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Evening... Got an engineer booked last week to upgrade my 20mb to 60mb free of charge.
We're currently on TV-XL, BB-XL(20), V+ Box, Talk evening and weekends and paying £62.40... Am I right thinking the Premiere package would save me a few quid a month, get me a 500gb Tivo, a HD box for upstairs, 60mb BB. I'd just lose the talk weekends. No brainer I thinks. Should I wait until the BB is upgraded before I go for the premiere package? Is the install fee payable on all installs. Would like to avoid paying it if I can;) cheers J |

I am currently paying £106 a month for my Virgin Media Services I am just wondering if I can save some money and gain a TiVo box by moving to the VIP Collection Bundle?
I had 50Mb Broadband but it just got updated in the past few days and I have the Sky Sports & Movies in HD on both boxes. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...012/04/112.png |

No Collections if your area is not offering 60Mb BB!

Was on the phone to retentions today and asked if I could just keep 50Mb BB and get the Premiere Collection price - computer says no  Btw, your bill is more than expected because they've fudged it to give you everything in the collection package except the correct price :roll eyes: |

Having then thought further about it, I was sure I was right so I rang retentions. A lady there told me that I did not need a engineer visit and there would be no activation fee, but I could not be upgraded to 100Mb because it was not yet available in my area. So I thought that was the end of that, until I read the link helpfully posted by BenMcr in post 16 of this thread which stated that the roll out had been completed across the whole country! So, back on to retentions to a very helpful lady called Debbie who unfortunately knew less about the new collections than I did. However, after about an hour on the phone with me pointing her in the direction of various pages on the Virgin website (including the link mentioned above) and me listening to tinny music while she read them and then discussed the issues raised with her supervisor, she eventually said those magic words to me "You're right" and upgraded me to 100Mb! I could only have achieved this because of this forum, whoever it was that originally said "Knowledge is power" was absolutely spot on. In conclusion, thanks to everyone who takes the time and trouble to post all the helpful information here and if you do have to ring C/S at any time don't assume that what they are telling you is correct, if you have done your research and know you are right, then persevere until you get what you want. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Whilst it's nice to see you finally got a result, it's not really mine, or any other customers job to know more about Virgin's services than their own customer service staff.
I was under the impression that anyone who signed up to these collections were getting the speeds advertised straight away, e.g if a new customer signed up for the premiere collection they were put on 60Mb, so why on earth can't I as an existing customer sign up to the premiere collection and also be put straight onto the 60Mb package, why must I have to wait for the double speed upgrade? |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Can someone explain all of the posts I see of people "upgrading early". I do not understand. My area states that it will be doubled up in speed on broadband between October 2012 and July 2013. But then I read of people that are upgrading from 50 to 100mb early for example, just because they can, because they phoned up and asked as the whole country is already 100mb enabled.
So can I, or can I not, expect to be able to phone up retentions and say make my 50mb become 100mb for free, now? |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
If there is capacity available then it's possible you may be able to do it. If there isn't then you won't and will have to wait until the upgrade programme happens in your area
|
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles

Thanks for the info Ben though. So when you talk of capacity...I guess this is dependant on the general take up of virgin media broadband in my area? |

But I have no issue with Virgin limiting the no-cost speed upgrades, as it's better to say no till the upgrades and leave you with working speed, rather than say yes and then have loads of 'it's not going as fast as you said' |

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
If you go on Collections you get the new speeds now, because you are upgrading services and are commiting to a new minimum term contract in return.
So if you onto the VIP Collection you will get 100Mbit immediately (barring any SuperHub install if required). Same for the Premiere and Essential Collections - you will get the new download speed for the tier. The upload will then follow as part of the upgrade programme. There is no circumstance where you should be refused a move onto a Collection due to broadband issues. It's the retier where there is no 'quid pro quo' that are subject to the capacity checks and where you can be told no |

Today was my superhub install. I was at work and my partner was home.
After the superhub was installed he asked how long it take for XL TV to be activated. The installer called the centre and promptly replaced my original 1TB Tivo with a new one (don't know why) and swapped my old SA V+ for a Samsung V+ box. Seemed a bit much since the equipment needed was already there (though not complaining about the new V+ box as old one was really slow) |

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
So, have I got this right ?
I am already on the Vip 50 with the vmng300 modem. If I ring up and ask to be put on to the new collections which looking at it, the only difference is 100mb instead of 50mb, I will have to have the superhub and install, which would also have an install fee ? + a new 12 month contract. Or if I do nothing at the moment I will be eventually upgraded to 100 mb as per the upgrade and no new contract. |

If you do go onto the new Collection bundles, do any previous loyalty discounts stay on as well (Or get better?). Currently im paying all in about £54 for XL everything with 1x V+ box, so the Collection bundles do interest me somewhat. |

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
I have just tried my luck at getting the Premiere collection without the extra V HD box.
I currently have: BB - L30 TV - M+ Phone - M Tivo 500gb I have no use for a second box and was hoping that I might get everything all in for around £52.40 (£58.90 full price for Premiere less £6.50 for the unwanted multiroom room box). I was told that in order to get the £58.90 price I had to take the second box. After repeating that I did not want a second box I was told that I could, however, have BB60, TVXL and Phone M without said box for £59.40. Needless to say, i declined the offer. |

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
I'm having absolute nightmare getting changed to the Premiere collection. Originally on 31st march I was called by virgin offering me the package but the call cut off when we were about to arrange for a superhub to be sent out as I only have a standard modem, i left it a few days to see if I gaot a call back but didn't so i decided to call retentions. The 1st person I spoke at retentions set me up on Premiere and said a superhub would be sent out. about 10 minutes after the call I lost my internet and it looked as if the 1st person had somehow tried to send a 60mb config file my modem. So after trying the usual rebooting of the modem and still not having any internet I called retentions back.
I explained to the 2nd person what I thought had happened and they agreed. They said that they would have to change me back to my previous package to get my internet back on and would call me back in a few days after I had recieved my hub to set me up on Premiere again. Thinking this was now all sorted out I waited for about 45 minutes for my internet to come back on doing the usual stuff again but nothing happened so called back again. The 3rd person I spoke to confirmed that I had been put back onto my previous package but also said that the 1st person I spoke to had closed the sale down as if it was an office internal change of service that didn't require any new equipment. They then passed me through to faults to see if they could get me back online. They couldn't and booked an engineer, however the next day my modem came back to life so I cancelled the engineer. I'm now waiting for the 2nd person to ring me back and i've still not recieved a hub yet. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Upgraded to the VIP collection today. Installation of Tivo box arranged for next Wednesday. Just wondering when can I expect my broadband to upgrade to 100mb from 30mb currently? Also will I get the Sky HD channels from next Wednesday too?
|
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Spoke to Retentions earlier today enquiring about an upgrade. Have a 500gb TIVO coming on Wednesday and BB doubled to 60mb. Can keep our Samsung V+ HD and return the V HD. Means we can record upstairs as well, woohoo! Cannot fault the guy I spoke to, at some length. Really helpful and informed. No setup/installation fees and still the same monthly DD payment. Good show :)

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
So just spent 30 mins on the phone to Virgin and still didn't manage to get anything sorted. Currently on:
XL TV with 1 TB TiVo L BB (10 MB) M Phone with Talk Anywhere Wanted to move to the Premiere collection because it's only ~£2 more (with the Talk Anywhere) for 50 MB faster broadband and an extra HD box, but nope. Apparently I can't have the Premier collection with the 1 TB TiVo that I've already paid the £100 to activate (of course I was only told this after 20 minutes of faff). I didn't understand why not? I pay exactly the same TiVo monthly fee as people on 500 GBs, so why is it different? Surely the only difference as well is the hard drive, all the guts and everything is exactly the same! |

1TB TiVo 500GB TiVo V+HD XL TV XL 30 MB Broadband M Talk Weekends This includes loyalty discounts too. We have had a call from VM from an 0800 number tried on my mobile, partners mobile and landline. Apparently Googling the number it seems to be from an outbound sales team. Missed them a few times, so thought I would call 150 and speak to the team who deal with upgrades etc. He explained it mostly likely regarding the new collections, and went over them briefly. Said he didn't have access to the system they use, and they don't leave notes on the account as it's an outbound dialler they use and don't access the account unless someone answers. Anyway he went through what we had already and pretty much agreed with me there is not much options for me apart from go up to VIP. Said wouldn't consider it anyway as it's a big increase. We don't use the phone much at all (0.00p worth of calls last bill) so no point upgrading that, and our BB is due to go up to 60mb anyway between July-October. My current package BB 30 (after early speed increase) TV XL Tivo 500gb Line Rental Your package total £64.90 (£51+£13.90) What I am looking to do is either - Move to Premier with 60mb for £58.90 or Move to Premier with 100mb for £66.15. I should add they hooked me on a new 12 month only last month as they offered me the speed upgrade early, will this affect anything? Any advice is appreciated. |

|
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
yes you can keep the V+ box although VM are phasing these out and only supplying VHD and Tivo boxes now.
|
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
And, of course, the VHD can (as I understand it) also take the Tivo software as a download. Which I think is a brilliant idea. Then the VHD can do everything the Tivo can except actually record. And with the reminder function on the way, this will be most useful on the VHD boxes :)

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Well spoke to them myself now, doesn't seem too appealing for myself.
Currently on XL everything along with loyalty bonus' which comes to £56 each month, with one V+ HD box and no TiVO. Spoke to them about the Premiere deal, but changing it to suit my needs, only difference being that instead of weekend calls i wanted all day. XL TV, XL phone + 60mb broadband + TiVO 500 + V+ HD = £66.90 When i asked about the 100mb instead it bumped upto £77. I forgot to ask if this was with or without loyalty discounts which i have upto now, seems to be without though. Not very appealing though as i said as it would effectively be £10 or so just to change from the weekend phone package to allday. |

I'm just off the phone to them myself, the guy didn't even know you could get Premier +100MB, his number was like £78 for that. I tried to tell the guy I don't want the installation as I have a superhub and a Tivo box but after a few holds I agreed to let them send the guy out, I'll be watching the guy though and asking him what he's done to the line, if the answer is nothing I'll be phoning up to get my £49.99 back. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
I really don't think they know too much about them, when i spoke to them earlier i had to clarify the pricing because "sometimes it doesn't add everything".
But i'm totally confused as to the pricing now though. As i say i'm on XL TV, Phone and broadband (30mb going upto 60mb) which is £55 all inclusive... But speaking to them with the only difference being having the "free" TiVO box and going instantly onto 60mb broadband (Which again, will be a free upgrade for my area next year) ends up costing an extra £10? The website isn't great either though in honesty, it doesn't take into account you want such and such and ends up charging you full whack for that anyway. |

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Phoned Virgin yesterday regarding VIP Collection Package.
First thing first, they wanted me to pay for the installation costs. Which i informed them that i had been a long serving customer and i see that you are offering free installs to new customers and that a person that lives two doors down got a call from Virgin themselves giving them improved services including the TIVO box with free install. The person on the other end agreed and said that you will not be charged for the install, we will remove that from your next bill. They allowed us to keep the V+ box and just to change the standard box for the TIVO box, He also mentioned that the modem would need to be changed to a Superhub. He booked everything for the 19th March. I am just wondering if two different people will come in order to change the box over to a Tivo box and another one to change the modem over to a Superhub? Also will Virgin provide a HDMI cable or is it best to have a spare laying around just incase they do not provide one? Also how long does it take normally for the HD sky sports/movies to get added onto your Package? |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Quote:
Please note though that when the engineer is setting up the Tivo it take a while to configure as it has to be registered with the server in America i think. If you already have an HDMI cable then thats handy if not the engineer will supply one from stock they keep in the van. Hope this helps. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Thank you for the reply kafui
I thought the HD Sports/Movies would already have been activated so they could be viewed on the current V+ box within the house. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
@ MacmillaN Technically yes but if the V+ is an old version which is not HD activated you will not be receiving the HD channels even if its activated by virginmedia; the equipment must be HD compliant.
|
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
All V+ boxes support HD.
If you have HD Sports & Movies on the TiVo but not the V+, they have probably made an error on your account. Ring Customer Services. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
@spiderplant
The phone call to VM was on Tuesday afternoon. I am getting the TIVO box and Superhub installed on the 19th April to coincide with upgrading to the VIP Collection Package. I already have a V+ box which i am keeping instead of switching to a Cisco VHD Box. I presumed the Sky Movies/Sports HD channels would be added before that date so i could view them on the V+ Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVB (Unless they will switch it to the newer Samsung SMT-H3110) I highly doubt the above though. I already had the Sky Sports/Movies package (Without HD) before making the switch to the VIP Collection. I suppose i could always mention it to the Engineer when he arrives with the new equipment, but my guess is that he would not care as it would be out of his area. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Ok, I didn't realise you didn't have the TiVo yet. In that case it's probably normal and they will all get added together.
|
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
I'm on the old VIP 100 but my 2nd box is a TiVo with the main box a TiVo too. Just noticed my bill still indicates a additional V box? What I have is listed below.
Talk International 2 Talk Mobile 2 Talk Unlimited VIP with TiVo Bundle Saving Free Voicemail TV Size: X L 1 Additional V Box TiVo Monthly Fee Broadband XXL (Up To 100mb) |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
The '1 Additional V box' is down to the fact you have two boxes, not that you actually have a V box. Bit confusing I know but just a older naming. I would expect the newer codes just say 'Additional Outlet' or something

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
New to the forum & am following this thread closely. Any help would be appreciated!
I currently have the Triple XL package with 2 V+HD boxes (SA & Samsung) & soon to be paying about £74 per month. The consensus on here is that the installation fee can be waived for the 'upgrade' to Premiere Collection 100 meg but I would like to know would I have to pay a fee for the 50 meg modem to be swapped out for a Superhub? Do I need the Superhub? I thought the existing modem would be able to handle the DOCSIS 3 configuration up to 100/120 meg. I don't really want to have to pay £49.95 just for a chap to unplug 3 connections from the current modem, attach the same connections to the Superhub & make a phone call to activate the Superhub. Many thanks. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
If you've already got the modem for 50Mbit you wouldn't be forced to have the SuperHub.
However the Premiere collection comes with TiVo, so you'd have to have that installed which DOES come with an install fee. It's the TiVo activation that wouldn't be charged |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
However, if you phone 150 and option 5 thinking of leaving and speak to retentions, you might get lucky and get the installation fee waved as some of us on here have ;)
I recommend you quote the price of the package you want for a new customer, and also mention that new customers get a free install. Theres a good chance they will offer you it for slightly less than a new customer. Cheers |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Been reading through this thread and the Virgin Collections page and I can't say I am totally clear what is on offer.
Currently in VIP 30 BB XL (30mb) with Superhub Talk Unlimited, International & Mobile Caller Display TV XL 1 add VHD Box So if I rang up regarding switching to VIP Collections would I be switched without charge or activation fees? |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Ok,
Upgraded to the VIP Collection. So just got the Samsung Tivo box installed. I presumed it was a Cisco box, but obviously due to demand another manufacture had to come in or to keep costs down or went with another supplier with the same specs, well i presume so... Took around half an hour or so. Software Update Messages and then Welcome Screen Verifying some settings. Slight question, Does the box become unresponsive when downloading a software update or can the software update be downloaded in the background and then prompted for an install. Also, Got the Superhub installed. Engineer gave a brief explanation of the features on the TIVO box. Also, mentioned about the information you need to enter when trying to connect to the Superhub on a laptop or something similar. Only thing i need to do is call VM regarding the HD versions of Sky Sports/Movies as they have not been added to the account yet. But other than that everything else is fine. ;) |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
If you take the VIP collection, does anyone know if you can downgrade say the phone to M and broadband to 60mb?
We would like both the Tivo and the second box and all the channels but have no need for 100mb broadband and XL phone. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
The VIP Collection is what it is. If you want lower Broadband and Phone you would have to go for the Premiere Collection and Sky Premiums on
|
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Wow so you cant actually adjust your bundle anymore then, looks like ill be phoneing Sky then i think.
Why would Virgin not sell me the Tivo Box with another box, 60mb broadband and the medium phone! Virgin Media is one company i will never never understand. |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
The VIP set of services has always been that way all the way back to 2007 - it's the top set of everything Virgin do.
The Premiere bundle IS the TiVo box with another box, 60Mbit broadband and the medium phone, so all you have to do is add the Sky Premiums on |
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
I'm glad i found this thread, I've been looking for people in a similar boat to me. I've just moved house, previously had only 10mb bb. I agreed to take all 3 services on at new address (provided they gave me a good deal), so they gave me: 30mb bb, XL tv, and M phone. Cost is £18.40 for 3 months, then £58.40. Which was ok i guess, that is until i saw the website, offering the "premiere collection" for virtually the same price all bar 50p, giving 60mb bb instead of 30, XL tv, M phone, AND a free V HD box for another room. So i can't help feeling a bit short changed!! But i've started the existing package now, so there's probably not a lot I can do now is there?

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Yes there is - you can phone up and get the Premiere Collection. Doesn't matter when you started your existing contract, it will just reset when you get the new deal

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Ok cool, will do that, thanks for the advice. With regards to the bb speed though, that's a bit of a grey area too so far, in that when i've spoken to them about a quoted speed on a package on the website, they don't seem to know whether that speed is before or after the upcoming speed doubling!

Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
If My VM says L then it's after, if it says XL then it's before - L is 30Mbit on the new tiers, XL is 60
|
Re: Virgin Media revamps its bundles
Well that's what i thought, my VM says L, and that i'm up and running on a double speed package. Yet the girl i spoke to says that's a mistake, i was given a free upgrade to 30, which will increase later in the year to 60, and that i should ignore what it says on my VM. Confusing eh!
