Yeah, that was my point DF. You'd never announce anything before its gone through the official channels. It would be bad for business amongst other things.

What I believe has happened here is that Neil Berkett has unintentionally let the cat out of the bag early and VM do plan on rolling out the £5 TiVo charge to all customers. Maybe this could come in September at the same time as the line rental increases?

And following that will be a increase in the Sky premium channels.:(

Did sky not freeze its premuin channel prices last year or maybe not?

If they did i would say a rise is on the cards this year DF.

Yeah I'd expect one in August from Sky, but you never know they may still hold them.

Sky haven't increased TV package prices since August 2010 and probably won't until August 2012. Even if you hate Sky you have to admit that's a good thing to do for customers.

It also helped to wipe out the price difference between Virginmedia and Sky tha WAS in Virginmedias favour. Could anyone work out how many various price increase Virgin has had since August 2010? Let me try..

I think "maybe"

A phoneline rental increase in Nov 2010?
Broadbandprice increase April 2011
TV price increase April 2011
Phone call charges rise August 2011

Phoneline rental increase Nov 2011
Call charge increase Nov 2011
coming soon
Tivo price increase Feb 2011
Broadband Increase April 2011
TV Increase April 2011
Call charge increase April 2011

That 10 price increases and Sky has ad 1 bring phoneline rental upto £12.25 a month.

So I recon its 100% fact of a Sky price rise but it will be softened by free wifi via the cloud, LOTS OF NEW SERVICES-(I know of 2 have pictures of 1 but would get someone into trouble if I posted)

To be fair and balance the argument aren't VM also bringing out new products TIVO buddy app , faster BB speeds , multiroom streaming plus more and your wrong Sky have more than 2 new services coming out this year ;) new EPG , shared planner , new Sky+/Zeebox powered app , Sky Anywhere (Wifi) , Sky Sports F1 HD and Sky Fibre. I'm assuming you mean you've seen the new Sky EPG one I've never heard said before on a forum :)

Competition is good, it keeps both companies on their toes. :)

Its not actually a picture its a 7 second video and yes its probably the same one you have seen then, But there a few 100 people with the EPG I believe so it was always going to get leaked out.

Fully agree DF , and I still stick by the fact VM will be the best option for some my parents can only get 1mb over ADSL and with no Infinity they choose VM , plus many packages are still cheaper/better value for some with VM likewise the same can be said about Sky.

According to the VM website multiroom is £6.50 plus another £5 if you want a recordable TiVo box so £11.50- I guess your free multiroom is a deal?

No, it's available to all existing TV XL customers taking TiVo if they keep their existing box and relocate it.

Ya know what, I'm happy to leave it at that and I certainly would not send anything to someone I do not know only for it to be all over the web within 30 minutes.

Its not on the web right now, and when it does hit the web(which I suspect will be with a few weeks) I won't of come from me.

I agree its one thing people forget and thats the free repair service you get as part of VM when I was with sky I paid a charge to cover repairs and the box.

VM replace the box with sky you have to buy a new one if they break down £100+ think I would rather pay a small increase. I would only swap to another company if VM prices were huge but I dont see any difference between sky and all other companies giving the similar deals.

VM might be around £5-£10 a month more but you get a better and faster service with free repairs

Unfortunately the foreign call centres save money. They can employ something like 8 offshore agents for price of 1 uk.

Just a quick point on that DF some of the energy ompanies off shored their call centres but have bought them back to the uk now as it makes sense for them, all of my utility suppliers now have uk based call centres, and my bank Nationwide even makes a virtue out of uk call centres, surely VM could do the same as the utility companies found out foreign call centres although cheaper are not always the right way to go, my mobile phone company 3 still has india call centres though.

I must say though i have always found the indian call centres quite helpful myself.:)

Customers don't like offshore contact centres, but shareholders of companies like the savings. I left HSBC years ago due to the offshore telephone banking - they were terrible.

I was under the impression that VM call centres were in the Phillipines. The problem I have found with the overseas call centres is the language barrier. Though they are very helpful and understanding people. The share holders of course would like to see big returns for their bucks, but if the customers are put off buy foreign call centres.. they tend to leave.

Has VM done a customer survey in Britain asking would you prefer a UK call centre or an overseas call centre. Answer YES a UK call centre every time.

And l will second that as my experiences have been far better with a UK call centre then a overseas one every time.

Virgin have off-shore centres in the Phillipines, India and South Africa. They also have partner centres in the UK in addition to their in house centres
