Yeah, they're really showing VM and others how good iOS apps can be. This and the Sky News app in particular are really polished and well designed. I can't wait to see what Sky have in stall for us over the rest of 2012! :)

The suit of Sky apps are optimised for the iPhone retina display, it's just that the iPad apps are designed to take advantage of the bigger screen on the iPad.

The iPad Sky News app is vastly superior to the iPhone version for example.

Ahh, ok I see what you mean.

I'm guessing that's due to mobile bandwidth issues more than anything else. On a full 3G connection when I'm out and about, I get around 3.5mb which does fluctuate a lot & would struggle to stream HD content.

Maybe when we get LTE over here they'll consider upping the resolution for Phones. :)

720p only requires about 1.5 MB but i do see what you mean so they could restrict it so HD video is only streamed when on WiFi

You wouldnt notice much difference on a screen the size of an iPhone , Sky Go is pretty good quality already.

Sky Go on iPhone has the same channels as on iPad.

I think nstokes means these

There's a lot of non Sky channels available on Sky Go through PC/Laptop.

Still vastly superior to any other pay TV operator , I think the range is pretty good and I'm sure it will increase , you also get movies OD on your iPhone/iPad.

Sounds like another superb app , Sky are really excelling in this area.

Heres what it says

Quote:

With the Masters 24 hours away, a new version of the Sky Sports for iPad app is now live, bringing you closer to all the action at Augusta National.

Among the top features are additional live video streams (including Amen Corner on Thursday and Friday) and rolling highlights.

Live leaderboards and a Twitter feed mean you'll have everything at your fingertips to stay on top of the drama in Atlanta.

To take advantage of Sky Sports' superb coverage of golf's first major of 2012, go to the App store and download the updated version.
Sky Go now records 10m weekly content view requests

Quote:

Having officially unveiled its eleventh smartphone and tablet application earlier today broadcasting giant Sky has revealed that its Sky Go service now records more than 10 million view requests per week.

Available through a number of connected sources from PC and Mac to the Xbox 360 games console, the Sky Go on-demand catch-up service has been bolstered in recent months thanks to the hugely popular Sky Go iPhone, iPad and now Android applications bringing Sky content to users on the move.

Sky to offer free WiFi to Sky Broadband customers

Quote:

Launching in mid-April, the 'Sky Cloud WiFi' service will enable Sky Broadband subscribers to wirelessly connect to the web at thousands of public places, including cafes, restaurants and stations.

The move follows Sky's acquisition of WiFi network company The Cloud in January 2011 and is part of the satellite broadcaster's strategy to compete with BT, which currently operates the UK's largest estate of WiFi hotspots.

Sky Cloud WiFi will be offered at venues through which an estimated 4m people pass every day, including outlets of Pizza Express, Caffè Nero, Eat, Pret A Manger, JD Wetherspoons and Wagamama, as well as First Great Western trains.

More than 4,000 hotspots have been added to The Cloud's network since January 1, as part of a major rollout programme. The company has also announced new deals with Network Rail and King's Cross Urban Zone.
Quote:

Accompanying the Sky Cloud WiFi launch in mid-April, Sky will introduce a companion app for Apple iOS and Android devices, allowing people to automatically connect their device to the internet at different locations without having to repeatedly log in.

Customers can register up to six devices per Sky Broadband household to the WiFi service, and there are no data allowances or usage limits.

Sky unveils ultra-high speed FTTC service; plans to offer free Wi-Fi coverage

Quote:

UK broadband provider BSkyB (Sky Broadband) has launched a new ultra-high speed ‘Unlimited Fibre’ broadband package, costing GBP20 (USD31.8) per month, plus a one-time setup fee of GBP50, enabling users to benefit from download speeds of up to 40Mbps around the country. The new service will use BT’s fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTCC) technology, it said. BSkyB says that new and existing customers will need to bundle its Sky Talk (costing either GBP0 or GBP5 per month) and Sky Line Rental (GBP12.25) with the new fibre broadband package.

The rather excellent Sky Go app for on-demand telly junkies is soon to become available on the excellent Samsung Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus smartphones.

Currently going through a rigorous testing procedure with the app are the phone-come-tablet Galaxy Note and the Android 4.0 launch device, the Galaxy Nexus.

I don't pay it but IMO not worth it. If your stb breaks outside of warranty then you can pay £65 for an engineer visit which will include repair or replacement with a 3 month warranty.

If he can't fix it then I think they give a refurb.

If your disk is the reaon they will replace the disc and you have a three month warranty for the part that is replaced.

On average, say your stb breaks every two years - it is cheaper to buy a brand new one than pay the insurance. Plus the current STBs are meant to be quite reliable anyway.

Not everyone has to pay for engineer visits. If you argue hatd enough you may get a free visit.

Update available for Sky Movies app on ios devices.

When searching by actor/director the results are returned as movie posters , when selecting a poster in search it allows you via details to view what other actors in the film have been in currently on Sky Movies.

Example search Tom Cruise returns 16 movies clicking the Rain Man poster then details allows you to view what other movies Dustin Hoffman is starring in when selecting his name.

Re: Sky Services Chat

Its a great app, even better as you can set a movie to record straight from the app,

So you search an actor it gives you all movies currently on Sky and you can then either watch it straight away on Skygo or set it to record on your Sky+ box on its next showing.

All with out disturbing the main TV viewing, excellent. I really love these second screen apps I hope we get many many more in the future.

No the service is provided by Sky for customers of the Sky platform. VM have certain content available on VM player although I'm not sure what.

I think SkyGo is exclusive an free to Sky subscribers. I also think at the bottom of the adverts for Sky it says none sky customers contact your service provider.

Sounds great :)

Am I slow on the uptake? I only just realised I can re-organise My Favourites on it. Nevertheless I am well pleased :)

I notice that the clash manager still fails when linked programs are back to back which is a pity. :(
