The Brazilian channel 'Record' that Sky have, or even more if possible, though I presume I am the only one with this request!

Premiersports included in my package would be good.

How about what people don`t want/ever watch.

For me lose all the music channels + e!,diva, Bio, the list could go on.
Its unfortunate that to get the mix ( plus other things) we like I have to buy XL. It would be great to have pick & mix- Ok I know it will never happen but I can dream:D

Telewest had a pick & Mix service however it was a con cause you picked the middle package and you want 3 channels extra then would be more than the Top package...

Definitely. I don't watch half the channels I have access to. Tivo has introduced me to one or two that I'd have never looked at but are actually quite reasonable, but the fact remains that if I didn't have to have channels that only the wife or kids watch I'd happily be on L or even M+.

Then surely the easy option is don't watch them,it's slightly different than not having the option of actually having programs you want to watch.

The point being made, certainly by me, is that I'd like to choose the channels I want, and only pay for them, rather than have to pay for channels I don't want simply because they're bundled with the ones I do.

Of course, I do realise that both Virgin and Sky do this for a reason, namely that some channels simply wouldn't sell, so it's not going to happen.

Yes, you'd have less choice overall if you had "a la carte" subscription as many niche channels would fail to survive

Re: What people want on Virgin TV

My personal wish-list for Virgin Media would be to get the TiVo box doing all it's supposed to be capable of, to get any current channels we have in HD (where available) and for at least some of the hundreds of apps we were teased with to finally appear (I'm thinking here of Netflix, etc.). The only channels I would like to see arrive are Sky F1 in HD and Sky Atlantic, also in HD. The range of On Demand programmes might be broadened, too. These points aside, I think VM make a fairly good fist of trying to please all of the people, all of the time.

You`ve got it in one. As for channels that won`t sell or don`t sell drop the them,( as Virgin I understand buys them or are they paid to take them these days? ) that`s what happens in all other trades.

It doesn't really happen in all other trades though. Most trades offer a product to the mass market and not individuals e.g. cars, tvs etc where the product is what they consider to be the best compromise.

What channels do you enjoy? The whole point of multi-channel tv is choice, take the bundled channel packages away and you'd have an awful lot less to choose from.

Well said and totally agree.:)

---------- Post added at 23:34 ---------- Previous post was at 22:12 ----------

Ive just looked at the cast for "enemy of the state" and i saw jack black on it but when i looked it wasn't on the cast list according the virgins tivo box..so its not totally up to date.

Also why cant we have a tivo forum app on the tivo box it self where we can all talk nicely

Sorry you misunderstood my point "would not sell if not bundled with others" or words to that effect - If it would not sell get rid if it.

As to what I do not want & I stress this is my household only. ALL MUSIC channels . ESPN* ,EURO SPORT TCM current TV, Bio, Sky arts, Blighty, Eden. others which I can not recall the name of ! :D
As I said before the ones watched mean that we have to ( Ok don`t really have to) take XL package. *Santana was fine as it had Celtic league rugby on ( BBC Alba would be good for the same reason. Not sure if BBC 2 regions have games on - BBC Wales 2 does).

Pbryanw 28-01-2012 01:11

Re: What people want on Virgin TV

I wonder if the long tale effect can account for all these minor channels. Individually they don't have many viewers but add the audience figures up for all of them and there's probably a sizeable audience.

I didn't mind all the minor channels, but wish Virgin boxes had better ways to set up your favourites so you only saw the channels you wanted on your TV Guide. When I had my TiVo, I set up my favourites and would switch to them, but for some reason the box would always default back to showing all the channels.

That would be a good move the channels we watch are all over the place holding favorites would be great. add V+ style red button & reminders & Tivo would be good instead of getting " fed up with this " cry`s from her who must be obeyed :p:

How do you know you would be better off if you only received the channels you want? Whats not to say that VM lose customers by dropping channels meaning they need to recoup their returns from a smaller no. of customers?

Sorry, if they pay for channels that do not sell ie MAKE A LOSS how can they recoup the cost.
O` I get it I go to the supermarket pick up what I want. They add things I don`t want & charge me for them to cover the loss they make by having them of the one customer that does. What a great business plan. Tesco`s take note !!!:D

Not the same thing though. In pay tvs case we are all cross subsidising each other because more channels equal more customers which equals more deals for all customers.

Look at the difference between prices we pay on Sky and Virgin and what people have paid in the past for services that offer pick anf mix channels.

Sorry as I see it & your argument I would say supports it. It is exactly that.
In my case I doubt that most of the channels, need more subsiding than the rate I pay anyway .:) As I recall my costs have gone up since the lack of choice, but I am only looking a limit number of channels just across a number of packages.

Re: What people want on Virgin TV

If only paying for the channels you wanted meant the death of some of them then so what? At the moment they're surviving off advertising and other revenue falsely derived from a subscription base they couldn't hope to achieve if people had the choice not to subscribe to them. 10 or 15 channels of serious quality is surely preferable to 175 with the same content spread more thinly? The benefit to the consumer is obvious. The benefit to a myriad of broadcasters earning a disproportionate amount of money to the quality of their output is less so and, I suspect, therein lies the problem.
