BDO STATEMENT

DAVE PRINS v WILLY VAN DE WIEL

Quote:

The BDO has been advised that there are betting patterns relating to the above match that may warrant further investigation. It has not yet been provided with the detail but is expecting full cooperation from the bookmakers affected.

The BDO takes its responsibility to protect the integrity of the great sport of darts very seriously. To that end, it has put in place a detailed Code of Practice on Betting and Related Activity (http://www.bdodarts.com/uploads/files/Betting.pdf) that gives it broad investigative and disciplinary powers in matters such as this. Using its powers under the Betting Code, it will now open a formal investigation into this matter.

It has already instructed its lawyers, who are specialists in this area, to assist it in pursuing the investigation robustly and efficiently, so as to ensure the integrity of the sport is protected while at the same time respecting its obligation to treat those being investigated fairly.

As part of the investigation, information will be gathered from all pertinent parties, including the players themselves, the match officials, the bookmakers, and others, in order to determine, based on the available evidence, whether or not there is a case to answer for breach of the BDO's rules. If it is determined that there is a case to answer, the BDO will pursue it vigorously.

Christian Kist won his first BDO world title on his Lakeside debut after a thrilling 7-5 win over Tony O'Shea.

For the first time in the tournament, the Dutchman, 25, lost the first set, but recovered to win four of the next five to lead 4-2 at the interval.

After the break, Kist won the next two sets to move within a set of victory.

O'Shea, who reached the final in 2009, won the next three sets to set up a tense finish but Kist soaked up the pressure to seal a brilliant win.

Not for a while if he has any sense or he'll run the risk of becoming the next Jellie Klassen and once you've jumped you can't jump back, I can understand Hankey or even O'Shea going for one last pay day but time is on Kist's side.

But the risk by not going is missing the chance to try and improve his skills. Though I agree with you that there would be a risk of another Klassen

Two-time PDC world champion Adrian Lewis will play world number one Phil Taylor in the opening week of the 2012 Premier League in Manchester.

The Stoke-on-Trent duo will meet on 9 February in a repeat of the first fixture in the 2011 tournament.

On that occasion, Lewis beat Taylor 8-2 at the O2 Arena in London.

Gary Anderson, who beat Lewis in the final to win the Premier League last year, starts the defence of his title against debutant Kevin Painter.

Elsewhere, James Wade will play Andy Hamilton and Raymond van Barneveld takes on Simon Whitlock.

The eight players meet each other twice in the group stages, with the top four moving on to the play-offs at the O2 Arena on 17 May.

Taylor is a five-time winner of the Premier League, but his challenge in 2011 was ended by Lewis in the semi-finals at Wembley.

However, Lewis could not follow up his 8-3 victory over the 15-time world champion and was beaten 10-4 by Scotland's Anderson in the final later that evening.

You will have to cast your mind back to December 2010 to the last World Cup, the inaugural tournament. Heavy snow had gripped the north, but that didnt stop the Dutch pair of Raymond van Barneveld and Co Stompe taking the title, beating the Welsh pair of Barrie Bates and Mark Webster in the final. Top seeds in 2010 England, who had paired Phil Taylor and James Wade together, suffered the biggest upset of the competition, after being knocked out in the second round by the Spanish pair of Antonio Alcinas and Carlos Rodriguez.

Taylor stole the show though, as he was in sensational form as he produced a brilliant performance against Whitlock, with the Australian doing well to win the four legs as 'The Power' remained unbeaten and top of the McCoys Premier League Darts table.

Not only did the 15-time world champion break a Premier League record with his 117.35 three-dart average, he also stuck in four 180s and was almost flawless with an 80 per cent checkout rate to prove he is right back at his best.
What more can we say about this great man.

Quote:

Double-defending world champion Lewis just did not show up as he was woefully below par allowing Anderson to clear up with a comfortable 8-1 victory.

Quote:

Hamilton and van Barneveld did not miss a double between them in the first six legs as The Hammer moved into a 4-2 lead against the big Dutchman.

Barney stormed back though and took four legs on the bounce from 6-4 down to win 8-6, thanks to a nightmare finish for Hamilton as he missed four doubles to grab a draw.

Quote:

While Barney had two draws to his name, Wade had lost all three of his previous games but finally broke that run by beating Painter 8-6, and he admitted he had not been as focused as he should have been this season.

Phil Taylor continued his unbeaten start to the McCoy's Premier League Darts season with an 8-1 thrashing of Gary Anderson in Brighton.

Although his average finally dipped under 100, ending up at 99.88 thanks to a host of missed doubles in the final leg, the 15-time world champion was never troubled as he went three points clear at the league summit.

Defending champion Anderson, who began the night one point behind Taylor in the standings, made a promising start but soon let the match get away from him.
Quote:

At the other end of the table, double world champion Adrian Lewis continued his miserable start to the Premier League campaign as he was defeated 8-4 by Simon Whitlock.

Whitlock signalled his intent by taking out 118 in the first leg, but Lewis was able to hang with him for the first half of a match that contained a total of 15 180s
Quote:

Elsewhere, James Wade moved off the foot of the table after claiming an 8-6 victory over Raymond van Barneveld.

Wade looked to be heading for a comfortable victory as he moved 6-1 ahead, with an 11-darter in the seventh leg following checkouts of 110 and 154 in the fifth and sixth respectively.
Quote:

In the opening match of the night, World Championship runner-up Andy Hamilton peppered the trebles early on but still slumped to an 8-5 defeat at the hands of Kevin Painter.
Another brilliant performance by Taylor again.

Simon Whitlock silenced a sell-out crowd at Glasgow's SECC with an 8-6 victory over Scotland's Gary Anderson on Week Six of the McCoy's Premier League.

The win moves Australian Whitlock up to second-place in the table, but he is once again playing second fiddle to Phil Taylor who romped to a sixth successive victory.

Taylor averaged 106 en route to a comfortable 8-3 win over Andy Hamilton, however another Stoke thrower props up the table after Adrian Lewis crashed to an 8-6 defeat at the hands of the resurgent James Wade.

The remaining match in Glasgow saw fan-favourite Raymond van Barneveld pick up his second win of the season courtesy of an impressive 8-5 triumph over Kevin Painter.

Taylor beat Dennis Smith 6-3 in the final in Barnsley, the day after two-time world champion Wilson died.

"He was my pairs partner for many years and I loved him to bits. We used to have a lot to do with each other, I'm gutted.

"I've got a lot of good memories about Jocky and he's one of those people that when you mention his name it brings a big smile to your face.

"He was a great character and I'm going to miss him. I missed him anyway but I'm going to celebrate Jocky's life."

On his latest win, one which continues a fine run of form, Taylor added: "The main objective for me was to come here and qualify for (the finals in) Bolton, and I've done that

Phil Taylor extended his lead at the top of McCoy's Premier League to seven points after recording a seventh successive victory at the expense of Kevin Painter in Cardiff.

'The Power' was in ruthless touch yet again at the Motorpoint Arena, easing past Painter 8-2 and then seeing his lead remain at seven points after nearest challenger Raymond van Barneveld was on the wrong end of the same scoreline against Adrian Lewis.

The win capped a mixed evening for world champion Lewis, who, due to the death of Gary Anderson's father, played two matches on Thursday night.

Lewis kicked off the evening with an 8-4 reverse at the hands of Andy Hamilton - 'The Hammer's' first victory since the opening night - but was back to his best against Van Barneveld.
Quote:

Elsewhere in the Welsh capital, James Wade produced the performance of the night to register a stunning 8-0 triumph over an out-of-sorts Simon Whitlock.

The evening started with a repeat of this year's world championship final, with Hamilton getting a portion of revenge over Stoke rival Lewis with a highly-impressive 8-4 win.

Phil Taylor maintained his unbeaten record in week 10 of the Premier League season in Sheffield - but reigning champion Gary Anderson's hopes of defending his crown are now hanging by a thread.

Taylor continued his winning run against Raymond van Barneveld in the third match on stage at the packed-out Motorpoint Arena, though he did not have it all his own way against his old rival
Quote:

While table-topping Taylor is already certain to be at the O2 Arena, reigning champion Anderson is in danger of not even making it through to the semi-finals after taking just one point from his two outings in Yorkshire.

The Scotsman lost his opener 8-3 to James Wade but looked set to bounce back when he reeled off five legs on the spin to storm into a 7-4 lead over Andy Hamilton.

Yet with victory in his sights Anderson suddenly lost his way, allowing his rival to come roaring back and snatch a draw that leaves both men on seven points in the table, three back of that all-important fourth place.

The other match saw Simon Whitlock continue his resurgence in the competition with an 8-5 triumph over Kevin Painter - a result that means the Wizard now sits second in the table.

Raymond van Barneveld battled back from 4-1 down to grab a draw with Andy Hamilton as the pair shared the points in a McCoy's Premier League Darts thriller in Liverpool.

Hamilton continued his battle for a play-off place in his first Premier League season by taking a 3-0 lead against the Dutchman, and he also led 4-1 before van Barneveld hit back to share the spoils.

It was one of three draws on the night as defending champion Gary Anderson lost his grip on the trophy as a 7-7 draw with Adrian Lewis in Liverpool ensured he could not make it into the 2012 play-offs.

Scotland's Robert Thornton shocked Phil Taylor 11-5 in the final of the Speedy Services UK Open in Bolton to win his first major title.

The 15-time world champion was attempting to win his fifth UK Open title but he had no answers to the rampant Scotsman in a one-sided final.

Taylor led 2-0 in the best-of-21 leg final but the wheels came off his challenge in the third leg as he missed 10 darts at a double and Thornton hit double one to get on the board.

The Stoke veteran steadied the ship to lead 3-2, but from there on it was almost all one-way traffic.

Thornton hit double top to break and lead 4-3, then took out 106 to lead 5-3. That quickly became 9-3 as Taylor continued to wobble on the finishes as Thornton took ruthless advantage.

Taylor did manage to win the 13th leg but Thornton continued to hold with ease and at 10-5 he hit a 121 checkout with a bullseye finish to take the title.

He also wins £40,000 and a place in the Grand Slam of Darts.

"I'm very proud," Thornton told Sky Sports. "My kids are going to be up jumping all over the place.

I'm puzzled. what has national pride got to do with darts?

It is a sport i watch. I don't watch it because it has UK, GB, or any other country. I watch individuals.

And if not mistaken, they play as individuals, not as representatives for their country.

My favourite players didn't make it through, so why would I want to watch others?

Home favourite Brendan Dolan returned to the semi-finals of the PartyPoker.com World Grand Prix with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Justin Pipe in Dublin.

The Irishman faces Mervyn King next after he cruised past Robert Thornton, the conqueror of Phil Taylor, 3-0 in the last of Friday night's quarter-finals.

Michael van Gerwen had it tougher as he battled his way into the last four with a 3-2 defeat of Andy Hamilton.

Newton is the final seed still standing after he produced a remarkable comeback to stun Paul Nicholson 3-2 and move one win away from the final.
