Agh it's getting a bit wet and wild out there now and I have to carry all of my gear out to the car. Need to build an underground car park!

The weather in Bonnie Scotland has always been far far better than Wales, the last time I had a two week holiday there it only rained 3 times "Morning, Noon & Night" :D

Nashie, if your picture is failing in bad weather then your dish is not aligned properly. Who fitted it?

Re: Batten down the hatches (it's Hurricane Bawbag)!

If they did it recently, then you need to call them back and complain. A dish that has been securely fixed to your wall and accurately pointed at the correct part of the sky should give you good reception on all Freesat channels at all times, in all weather.

The only issue you might have is they may well try to suggest the dish suffered storm damage thanks to Hurricane Bawbag last Thursday. You need to be very clear with them about it if the disruption was obvious before that.

The first time he came a good few months ago. He said he made it more secure to the wall. I don,t want them to start charging me if I have to call them out again.

I don't know what it's called but some of those gusts are damn scarey. It may be coming in a different direction but it seems to me to be stronger than bawbag.

Main road bridges all closed (including the Kingston), Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley train stations also closed.

The end is nigh :erm:

Very windy down here since last night and for the last 10 hours it has been raining with that rain becoming torrential in the last two hours and floods becoming widespread on most of the roads down here.

I agree nash, and hope your brother is tucked up away from the winds. I also hope all our members and their extended families and friends are safe.

It's been a tad wild in my corner of Manchester and my husband nearly took off whilst helping a neighbour move a 6ft fence panel earlier but so far I haven't heard of any structural damage.

There are ongoing road works near the airport for the metrolink extension. I would suggest you add a bit of time on incase it slows you down.

Hope i don't have to travel anywhere in Warrington tonight then. Every time that motorway shuts Warrington grinds to a halt.

#SonOfBawbag wrought absolute havoc here today - far worse than last month. A house close to us had its living room window blown out; by which I mean the entire PVC double glazing frame, plus glass, is now lying on the front lawn. Probably doesn't help that the house has been unoccupied and poorly maintained for a few years, but even so ...

We lost a roof tile, which is very rare indeed for us, plus our B&B sign and the lid of our compost bin went airborne for a while too.

Needless to say the power is off. It's been off since about 7.30 this morning and on past experience we're unlikely to get it back before Thursday.

And we've not got round to buying a generator yet. :(

It is a lot worse. We lost count of the number of fallen trees cleared from the road as we came down to Glasgow. If it hadn't been a bank holiday in Scotland today, the roads would have been full of commuters right about the time all those trees were coming down.

Lucky you ...

Normal-ish working day for me, so long as I can get somewhere there's WiFi. Like McDonald's in Balloch, or the in-laws in Glasgow. :D

I keep phoning our house to see if the power's back on (the answer phone will pick up if it is) but no joy yet.

well st helens new stadium has taken a battering.......................

they haven't long taken delivery of it and haven't played on it yet - first game is due on the 20th, which i believe is to do with the safety certificate hence the capacity has been cut.

the funny thing is that our roof at work has been bouncing up and down like a pro's draws, and our unit is just across the road from the stadium and iirc the builders of the stadium are also the builders/landlords of our premises :erm:

Hehe, yeah. I've done breakfast by candlelight when we had the B&B in Wales. Luckily we had a gas hob so I could cobble up enough hot water and fry-ups to get the job done but having the 'leccy out can really mess up your day.

Re: Batten down the hatches (it's Hurricane Bawbag)!

Was really scary today. I got to central station about 3 mins before all trains got cancelled. Noise of the glass roof rattling and was really scary. They even told people to leave for safety.

About 5 mins after that the Xmas tree in George Square blew down. Needless to say I came home and was lucky that I could work from home.

Have just checked the Scotrail twitter and website and currently most train services are still off, so may be WFH again tomorrow.

So much more damage than last time.

Nashie, if it's the same company that put the dish up for you in the first place, remember they didn't exactly do a brilliant job of it (you have channels that disappear in the rain) ... Consider getting a different company to quote.

If you do stick with the original company, remember it's not unreasonable for them to charge, your dish being brought down by a hurricane doesn't in itself prove their original job was substandard.

No, you have a Freesat installation. The whole point of Freesat is that you are not in a contract with anyone for anything. You have bought the dish and the box and you can get whoever you like to repair it if it goes wrong.

hope it's ok ,i've had to repair quite a few due to high winds in the past . It's not the roof itself that gives way it's the house roof loosing tiles that does the damage .Going to move my van off the drive as i just eard a few more tiles coming down .

is the dish mounted on a pole to raise it over the gutter? even if it's a short pole there might be enough sway in it to affect the alignment of the dish when it's very windy.

Could also be a tree which gets blown into the line-of-sight between your dish and the satellite.

The dish is put right on to the wall. But I think they have put it too near the corner of the building & the wind is catching it as it whirls round. This has happened 3 times. I have had it in 11 months, I think it should be under guarantee, They are coming on Monday, If I have to pay I will be better of with VM as I already have it in one room.

I know. :(

We lost power at 2.45am and I had to take the kids to school at 10 after waiting for the road to be cleared of trees.

I'm currently sitting in a branch of McDonalds having breakfast.

Re: Batten down the hatches (it's Hurricane Bawbag)!

Yes. It's moved on a bit quicker than predicted. Hopefully the linesmen can get on with repairing the leccy now. It was SSE men who were removing the trees from our road this morning, which was encouraging. When we had the storms a couple of years ago there was so much damage we never saw anyone from SSE in our area for about 2 days.

Not at the moment. Their ultras are still busy insisting the falling oil price is a Westminster conspiracy.

Yes well if I'd based a whole load of costly promises on a the value of something the price of which is entirely beyond my control, I'd be keen to hide my embarrassment and blame someone else too... :D
