But most don't.

I can remember back in my karting days (when David Coultard, Dario Franchitti, and Oliver Gavin were all racing against each other in juniors). Most of my mates used to try and make it to at least the British GP. And if we were lucky there was also the European GP also in the UK. And this was because it was more affordable.

But I think it is partly to do with the huge cost of following F1 these days, that we only have two British drivers in F1 now, when we used to average about 4 or 5.

If though you want to see some great UK racing at a reasonable price then go to a BTCC weekend.. Great touring car racing, Porsche/Renault/Ginetta support races are included in the cost of the ticket.

Absolutely!

3 British drivers in 2012 (not counting reserve or test drivers)... ;) So only 1 off your average

And two of them are former world champions so that can be no bad thing in my mind as it tells me our quality of drivers is just as good as it ever has been.

At lunch, Nico Hulkenberg of Force India was the fastest in Day 2 of pre season testing in Barcelona. Sauber's Sergio Perez was 0.040 seconds behind, with Sebastien Vettel in third.

Also mentioned in the article is that Lotus have pulled out of the testing, because of a problem with their chassis.

I must say, I agree with them that this pre season testing is showing that it is hard to predict who will win the first race in Australia. My money at the moment is on Button. Got a feeling it is his season this year. But, like I've said here already I am in the ABA camp. Anyone But Alonso.

Oh yes, I keep forgetting about the third one. But you can't include test drivers.

Paul Di Resta I think has a good future ahead of him, shame that a lot of people forget about him when British drivers are mentioned

Re: Formula 1 2012 Pre-Season

I think he needs to drive for a bigger team than Force India though to realise his full potential. Saying that, Button had to work hard to get to McLaren now, whereas Hamilton pretty much had his McLaren drive handed to him on a silver plate thanks to Ron Dennis.

This has caused a load of uproar on other Forums I belong to, with many thinking Hamilton should be driving for a different team now. Personally, I think he is well suited to Ferrari but with Alonso there would them as a pair work now, after that infamous season?

Yes it is very expensive so the best option for most people who love F1 is to pay the £20 subscription fee to watch it on pay TV.

Remember, the British GP is still free (bar licence fee) in SD and HD for VM Customers!

Unfortunately most fans don't have the money that you do.

That is one of many reasons why he is worth Billions! :D

Absolutely!

If you have paid the Licence Fee you can still watch the British GP in SD and HD, but yes F1 (like a lot of sports) is 100% all about the money!

Georgie Thompson posted a tweet on earlier, saying her and Anthony Davidson were busy doing some more studio rehearsals for the F1 channel.

She says they were like kids in a sweet shop. I'm really looking forward to this season now. Always seems to drag between seasons, yet the gap between the 2011 and 2012 seasons seems to have whizzed by.

Got my Radio Times today, and on March 16, the Australian GP practice sessions 1 and 2 are on TV. SKY channel 408, Virgin 516.

Session 1:

05:15 - 07:20, Live

Session 2:

16:45 - 16:15, Live.

I think the second one is afternoon times anyway. It says the next one is 02:45 - 04:45, but I assumed Friday had 2 sessions, Saturday only one with the third practice and qualifying on Saturday with race on Sunday.

Kymmy 06-03-2012 14:44

Re: Formula 1 2012 Pre-Season

Weird session 2 times, are they going backwards as the end time is before the start time..

Actual session times are

Fri 25 March 2011
Practice 1 01:30 - 03:00
Practice 2 05:30 - 07:00
Sat 26 March 2011
Practice 3 03:00 - 04:00
Qualifying 06:00
Sun 27 March 2011
Race 07:00

And what are the BBC showing for this weekend?

Kymmy 06-03-2012 16:28

Re: Formula 1 2012 Pre-Season

Nothing live, just highlights (use the link I gave you last time you asked :p: )

I'll be watching P3, Q and the race on RTE (with radio 5 audio) and their website is showing live P1,2,3,Q,R (you may need a German proxy. (Just as someone who recently said that they do the same with netflix USA via a DNS tweak))

Who cares?

I can't wait, Sky are already doing the fantastic job that I knew they would.

The F1 season preview show with Martin Brundle and Damon Hill was great.

And the show where they took a honda civic and did it up for Anthony Davidson to drive was as good as anything Top Gear would do.

Yes, it's going to be great for armchair F1 fans this year.

Kymmy 15-03-2012 15:30

Re: Formula 1 2012 Pre-Season

The preview show was also on Pick-TV on freeview, I must admit to being a bit disappointed with it but then again I prefer to only watch the racing and not the junk all of the F1 broadcasters try to fill up their preview programs with.

Remember guys that there are lots of website around the world showing the practices, qualifying and racing live as well as TV with Sky, BBC, FTA so enjoy this season and oh crap I forgot to do the usual who we think is going to win vote..
