The red button can launch in December because the 15.2 update allows it.

We will have to wait and see.

Yet again you are repeating yourself. We know the red button features are coming soon, because its supported in the 15.2 update, maybe not this year though.

Stating it's coming because the update allows it is slightly incorrect. That's like saying it can launch next August because the update allows it.

That was based on you sending them a link to a page which said they would launch by the end of the year that has since been updated to say early next year.

I noticed you haven't asked them again since the page as changed, guess you don't want to know the answer as then you wouldn't be able to continually post that it is coming this year.

On TiVo, we’ve currently got a Red Button link to our full BBC iPlayer and CNBC app on our TiVo service and we’re working with our channel partners to get it extended to other channels. We’re hoping to have a full range of Red Button services by early next year.

Hopefully a epg that can actually record what you want and not live progs that over run ,out with the mates set TiVo for smackdown the other half says its bloody cricket thats on not a happy chappy

Re: What would you like in the next Tivo update?

1. Red button
2. To be able to set the default to favorites on the guide.
3. When you record a series link it just records new programs as default (not re-runs etc,)
4. Indication on recorded programs to show if they have been viewed (as V+ Box) (particularly handy if you have 14 year old who cannot delete a recording once viewed

I Sent a email to Virgin media about a dynamic EPG 10 days a go

Any update on this ?

Are you working on a Dymamic EPG for Tivo ? If you are Will it be implemented sometime next year ?
This was the reply
Quote:

Hi ,

We're currently working with TiVo to look at more frequent updates to the guide data, however at present I can't commit to when that would be deployed to our customers.

Our long-term goal is to add dynamic updates to the TiVo EPG but we are some way off that.

Hope that answers your question.

regards
Stephen.
I wonder how frequent these updates to the guide data will be.

Every 6 hrs ? every 8 hrs ? every 12 hours ?

At the moment it is every 24hrs.

Dymamic EPG is there long-term goal.

scotmac 02-12-2011 23:51

Cheers HD if this is going to happen tben TiVo will be pefect, got to to the drink now the mates are getting pd off

When you press "guide" you can then press the blue button and select "my favorites". This will be remembered next time you go to "guide".

You can change the series link settings to "new only", although you have to do this manually for each series link.

Just checked and the blue button favourites default works on the mini guide as well.

Not on my TiVo. It's currently one of the most annoying things. Sometimes 'Favourites' will be selected, the next time I use the EPG it won't. If VM could just make the blue button selection 'sticky' - at least throughout a session - it would make my TiVo a whole lot more pleasant to use.

I'd report that then if I were you-it works fine for me.

I am hoping for anything that will give Tivo the wow factor because I am currently underwhelmed by this box which they are charging us extra for each month. I don't think we are getting value for money. I have had the box since they introduced the 500hd version.
The Apps are gradually turning into pay as you use products.
It may be me but I still cant use the remote like texting when typing searches in.
For a dedicated 10meg line, I had buffering last night when watching music on youtube.
No red button
Poor navigational menus now with silly sub sections.
Underwhelmed. So any additional updates will be very welcome.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been trying to work out what causes the EPG to drop back from Favourites to All Channels - I think going to the SD menus and back might be a factor. It's definitely a bug caused by the 15.2 update.

As goes the menus, the fat needs to be trimmed. Sometimes you have to go through what seems like a dozen menus to get certain content to play, and even though the UI is faster than it was before it still isn't swift.

It remembers the last setting for an hour, then reverts to all.

Thanks spiderplant! You've saved me hours of hassle trying to narrow down exactly why that happens.

It's probably a dense question, but this feature can't be altered can it? I don't like it falling back to All Channels because it shows both greyed-out non-package channels and radio stations, neither of which I care to see in the timeline.

I've been trying to figure that out, too. For me it seems to default back to 'All Channels' just after I've watched a recording or catch-up TV. That said, it's also been known to switch back during the space of time it takes to watch a single hour-long programme. Either way, it's definitely something that should be looked at in the next update.

When I press guide & select favorites I find it will stay on favorites during the viewing session, but once you turn to standby, and turn on the next day it reverts back to the default guide “show all channels” this is annoying.

Re: What would you like in the next Tivo update?

I would like a option that episodes get sorted into season and episode order. for example I had a wishlist to record episodes of Eureka and it was recording season 3 episodes on Sky One and season 4 episodes from Syfy. So I had to keep jumping around the palace to watch episodes in order.

Also put the oldest episode of a show at the top in group view, as quite obviously that is the one you would want to watch first.

For a recording clash it would be nice if Tivo could also search a +1 channel, this is only possible if you do a wishlist.

On the info panel when watching live TV be able to press info on one of the other turners and get the synopsis of what is being recorded.

In the info panel have some clickable items on the cast and crew so it can take you straight to a page about that person.

And has been said so many times a clock on more pages.

The My shows screen could do with a redesign, it would be nice not to have to click on a show to go to a second screen to see when it was recorded.

Yes l have to agree with the many points you have made in your posts as even having some smaller things added makes it just that little bit better then it already is.

Re: What would you like in the next Tivo update?

You know what we really need? Ability to alphabet search within My Shows menu. Being able to jump straight to the correct first letter via numpad letter (like you do on Search TV) would be a real timesaver when you have a lot of stuff on the HDD, especially since My Shows tends to be the slowest part of the HDUI.

You can, as long as you know what you're looking for. Search now finds things in My Shows. (WishLists would be better, though)

zekeisaszekedoes 05-12-2011 22:31

Re: What would you like in the next Tivo update?

Hmmm. That's good but it's not quite there. You want to go straight to the show you already have rather than bring up a list of other shows in the TiVo database, know what I mean?

Re: What would you like in the next Tivo update?

Would people like to see ITV net player app , 4OD App and demand 5 app ?

It would mean they would not use a tuner and would instead use the 10MB broadband connection.

zekeisaszekedoes 05-12-2011 22:38

Re: What would you like in the next Tivo update?

I think that last part is inaccurate. If it goes through the regular part of the TiVo interface (i.e. it isn't an app) then it users a tuner. Catchup TV, Music On Demand, requires a spare tuner to operate. YouTube and iPlayer app don't.

That is not what i meant.

I meant would people like to see ITV net player app , 4OD App and demand 5 app work the same as the BBC iplayer app currently does.

BBC iplayer app does not use a tuner.

swilsonab 06-12-2011 12:14

Re: What would you like in the next Tivo update?

Couple of things that have already been covered;

Consecutive recordings on same channel by one tuner.

Grouping of recordings by season within the shows own folder.

Ability to delete "deleted recordings" in one rather than show by show. (I know they are automatically deleted but I'm a bit OCD about it)

The option to wishlist an entire season rather than by a show at a time.

An option to say "I love this show bit have seen all the episodes, so no need to record them as suggestions but find me similar stuff" ( probably a wish too far)

And finally MLB.tv as an app. It's available on the PS3 in America so it must be able to be implemented on TIVO as well.

I would like to create my own folders with names that I assign them; record the programme and assign the folder they will appear in at the same time; delete a bunch of programmes from anywhere by highlighting and then deleting in one fell swoop; cancel the series records set by the TIVO in the suggestions folder instead of having to laboriously delete them one by one as they record; set my own buffers in one go rather than have to series record and then go back and re-set the first programme, then the second programme, etc. I'd be quite happy with that!

Oh, and if the display on 'My Shows' could tell me how much disk space I have left for my own recordings, ignoring the Suggestions and Deleted folders, I would actually know how much room I really had to record more stuff!

You can do this by creating WishLists to record the programme, and giving the WishList a name (the last field on the screen). The folder gets the same name.

Just press Clear on each one. It marks it for deletion, then moves on to the next one so you can nip through them. It deletes them in its own time.

Give them the thumbs down if it keeps recording Suggestions you don't like.

For me I'd want.

1. Red Button
2. Customisable default padding and SL options.
3. "Already Watched It" button to flag content I have already seen so it doesn't end up recording it over and over.
4. "Folderize" suggestions listings.
5. Ability to exclude certain channels from suggestions, i.e. Dave. (endless repeats)...
6. Clean up the EPG data.
7. Clean up the EPG Data.
8. Clean up the PGE data.

;-)

Re: What would you like in the next Tivo update?

Did I already mention ITV Player, 4oD and Channel 5 apps so catchup needn't use a tuner (just like watching recordings)?

Also, fix the iPlayer app. It's still using wrong field order and that degrades the quality noticeably, even on HD streams.

Oh, and it's a small one, but make WishLists THAT ARE NOT ALL IN CAPITALS BY DEFAULT. I mean, it's easy to correct with a USB keyboard and the fast SD part of the interface (which itself needs upgrading) but users shouldn't have to.
