And so it goes again, SKY put the largest supported club in the world on Sports 4 which isn't available in HD, are there no lengths that SKY won't sink to to gain subscriptions to their platform??? Every Manchester United game that SKY showed in the Champions League last season was on Sports 4, I might complain to UEFA.

Media Boy, can you please explain to me something, VM has BBC Scotland and Alba so why is the Rangers game on Alba and yet it will only be shown in Scotland.

Surely this cannot be down to any contractual agreement, l just don't understand why ? You do a great job mate.

I will be shocked if they don't do something as it is PROPERLY the biggest league match in the world and they AREN'T going to show it live. It must the be first time anything like this has ever happen and especially a match with such prestige.

biggest league fixture in the world can be debated ;) but yeah the stand out fixture(s) in LaLiga is those two meeting. Its shocking really, Sky done a deal with LaLiga/clubs late on to broadcast, may be the deal wasn't as good as they would of liked and are now punishing Sky?

I did email Sky about it but got no response.

Kl. I think it is mainly to do with the Real Madrid players getting as much rest for their important second leg tie with Man Utd on the 5th as they can. What is a few hours difference going to make though?

Stupid really.

Your guess is as good as mine mate, but it could be for a variety of reasons including the one I already stated. It is just a stupid decision by the RSFF full stop in my opinion. I guess it only really affects British and German viewers in regards to the fact that their respective leagues play at the same/similar time, but Prem 3pm kick-offs aren't broadcast.

God dammit, Newcastle gets shafted with SD only coverage on Virgin.

That's not a problem. They still play in black and white.

The United/ Real Madrid game was awesome, BUT l might upset a few fans here, Nani deserved to walk, he got the Red Card for dangerous play, His foot was digging into the players chest - straight Red.

It made me laugh when both commentators both said it should be a yellow and then Fergie face when he was shown the straight red.

I have seen Rooney do that plenty of times and get away with it with PL refs, its about time that refs stuck to the rules of the game.

Arthur, oddly enough, I agree. If Ronaldo did that to RVP, the crowd would have been baying for his blood. Man Utd have too many big decisions go their way and simply can not accept a fair decision when it goes against them.

tend to agree, though could have seen a yellow.

But utd can't complain, given the decisions that they get

Dangerous play is not a straight red card. Violent conduct is a red card. If you think that attempting to control the ball is violent conduct then he deserved to walk.

It wasn't dangerous play because he made contact. It was a foul in the group of 6 requiring a direct free kick. At best it was careless and no further sanction was required, at worst it was reckless and a yellow. Where the red came from is anybody's guess.

It's an extremely controversial matter and I can fully understand your point and I do not think anyone will really ever fully agree on the decision.

However, we all know that if it had been Arbeloa doing that to Nani, the crowd would have gone mad, as would of Fergie. IF the ref then only booked Arbeloa, would Fergie have said it should only have been a yellow card? I, personally, think not.

I feel a line must be drawn though, Nani must have seen Arbeloa coming (even only with his peripheral vision) and still did not pull out of the challenge or put his hands up in apology of the impending collision. Instead he stayed down, hoping for a bit of sympathy.
A yellow card would not suffice for me simply because all players could go in like Nani and claim ignorance. I would still class it as dangerous play though.

Re: European Football on Virgin Media.

The laws of the game - dangerous play is when somebody has to get out of the way to avoid being hurt, ie. when somebody avoids a bad tackle. If contact is made then it's no longer dangerous play but it's one of six fouls where contact (in this instance, a kick) is made or attempted which must result in a direct free kick. It's then for the referee to decide if the player was careless, no card, reckless, yellow card, used excessive force, red card. My personal opinion is that Nani's eyes were on the ball, not the player and that he was at worst reckless, but no more.

A yellow card was the most that should have been given but alas here we have another referee wanting to be the centre of attention again and in the process he has totally ruined the game as a spectacle.

You clearly know your laws andy_m, and I am grateful for the enlightening me. I, maybe wrong, but I guess it's all down to interpretation.
Having played at a very minor level (like many others on here would have/currently do) I know it is possible to keep your on the ball and also know when someone is running towards/getting close to you (team-mates shout, fans shout, you can hear the player running and you also see them out of the "corner of your eye" - especially if they are running at you.) As such, I do not believe he only had his eyes on the ball and I believe that he tried to gain a deliberate advantage, possibly by using excessive force. (Thanks again for info)
The ref had plenty of time to come to a decision on all of the laws you have kindly posted, and by all accounts consulted with his assistant too. He clearly felt Nani had a strong case to answer. As I stated earlier, I believe there was no effort made by Nani to avoid the collision.
If the ref had given a straight red, and not consulted with his assistant I would find the decision a little more baffling.
It would be nice if the ref was allowed to explain his decision though, for all involved.

It was a yellow for me and I support City.
Though I thought there was nothing wrong with the challenge before Real "goal" to go 1-0 up in first half, which would have changed things also.
The Rafael handball wasn't deliberate in my book as it hit him from close range.

Going down to 10 didn't affect their defending, but their ability to carry any threat on the counter and once Madrid got the 2 goal lead (effectively given away goals rule), they could afford to sit back.

When the ball hits the net it's not Nani or Shrek, it's Ronaldo....... :)
