some of you will get an email to book online and some will be directed to a special pre-sales orderline, this is because some of you have complicated billing arrangements! :)

Install is free in April, so you are getting that knocked off.

VIP's are getting the TiVo monthly charge waived. It will appear on the bill, but you will get a bigger discount to cover.

now stop moaning!!!!! :D

There is also more deals around additonal outlets, but you'll need to speak to sales or see this in the ordering process online :)

Thanks DF. Agreed; no reason to moan now. ---- great news on the free install.

That's excellent news all round I think.

£149 for the box and install is going to have VM a larger number of sign ups than had they charged the £40. Good work VM and hope that those thinking about Tivo will jump at this as for £149 the box is seriously worth it.

Can I just confirm something DF? Those of us VIPs who have already had Tivo installed and are paying the £3 a month, will we see this automatically change on our bills going forward?

Yes a bigger discount will be applied to cover TiVo for VIP's :tu:

Does the £149 have to be paid upfront or is it added to the bill ?

Good question.. yes upfront, but it will go on to the bill (existing customers only), so no credit card required. we will up your credit limit on your account to cover the cost and stop any billing issues.

A much better deal @ £149 no install charges BUT and i dont mean to moan as such .... WHY didnt VM simply say this in advance in the previous email ?

It would have saved considerable whinging and moaning & irate customers on forums if they had stated all that in the emails they sent out to 'Dean' .

Personally with the current bugs and lacking features IMHO the product is still overpriced simply because things like the red button operations are missing and that means the product is unfinished and unpolished. These kinds of functions should have been working from the start or it gives the appearance of a beta product not a premium product.

Still personally edging towards not bothering until they give me the box for nowt which as a VIPer they will have to do eventually and personally all the features may sound great but they add up to zipp without the content on the network in the first place and VM have been reluctant to add new content in the last 9 months.

Hope everyone who wants gets and enjoys TiVo but still dont think its worth it for my viewing habits.

That is good news all round. I was content with paying the £3 but am now very pleased indeed that being a VIP has added extra benefit for me. Thank you VM and thanks to Digital Fanatic for passing this onto us.

You need to buy TiVo in April to get the free install, but your date for actual install could be in May.

DF Thanks so much for this info. :hyper:

I'm sure I speak for 99% of people on here that this is very welcome news indeed.
The £3 discount to VIP50 is a welcome addition. Not quite the major change in VIP bundle I was expecting but it is a start.
I would like to think our emails to the CEO have kind of worked but it does seem they may have listened to some of our points. :gpoint:

This is excellent news, I wasn't worried about the monthly charge or the £149 upfront, I just felt the installation fee was not fair. But like others have said why didn't they just announce this info in the email. I hope people that had a go at DF are going to or have apologised.

Two odd things about this:

  1. They mention Skype as an app? Where's the mic?
  2. They talk about multiple profiles, that's not even been rolled out in the states yet?

Maybe TIVO are looking to pioneer it with VM , just a guess, and maybe a Mic will become a VM TIVO accessory again just a guess. I think bravia internet TV have Skype , if not here they defo do in the USA.

From a punters point of view I think this is the problem with Tivo, journo's and dare I say it some punters seem to be making wild assumptions about the kit, it's actual capabilities and it's potential.

As staff on here have said VM will be providing clear training which will be of great use, to be honest I still don't fully understand what it can and cant do.

Great news they are canning the £40 installation in April though, very wise. I assume that means for orders placed in April, not that you actually have to have it installed in April as who knows what install date you will get.

UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just phoned up the Tivo team and it can be ordered from the 18th april not the 11th !!!! and (wait for it) they also reckon that VIP 50 customers STILL pay the £40 install price!!!! WHAT is going on????????????
The lady even checked and said it was definitely the 18th and £40 install!!!!
Do the tivo team not know about there own deals???

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

jpa it's probably just not gotten through the system grapevine yet. As long as they know what the price should be when it's time for ordering then I'll be happy lol.

The wavering of the install fee is a good move and that's probably enough to encourage me to get it. I presume that means we just need to order in April rather than get it installed in April? (taking demand into account)

It's a bit of a shame the £3 discount doesn't also apply to VIP 20/30. Don't really see why considering VIP 50 already get the Sky HD premium for free on a box.

Though if I lose the V+ charge for my second box (when I replace it with Tivo) then it'll work out as a £7 discount anyway so I'd be more than happy with that. Is this confirmed? Would seem a bit odd to effectively get a £7 discount for changing to a better box but the V+ charge is £10 so don't see how else they'd arrange that. Otherwise I'd be getting charged £13 for the Tivo box.

Technical question that hopefully someone can answer.

At the moment we have a Samsung V+ box with the HDMI connection going to a DVI input on a Philips TV. This obviously does not carry audio. To get audio we have the audio from the VCR SCART connected to the audio in on the TV.

Can anyone confirm if this is possible on the TIVO or if there is an audio out connector on the TIVO which could connect directly to the audio in on the TV

Thanks
David

Another quirk to report.

There is a show on called Wheeler Dealers on Discovery. Each episode is split into two parts shown back to back My TiVo has been recording it as a suggestion, however it only ever records the first 30 minute part and never the 2nd part.

TiVo needs to understand that it must record both parts !

That programme is odd as sometimes they show both episodes in a single 1 hour show and others as you rightly say in two, 30 minute episdoes back to back, more often than not it is split though.

I wonder if it is related to that.

Awesome news about the free install!

I joined the pre-reg list but never received the "dear dean" email

That was a very wise move indeed I think. It seems a lot of people on here would have not bothered with Tivo because of the install charge. I already have the box, but I wouldn't have paid the extra. Good move from VM.

Lets hope this helps push Tivo out there to more of the masses.

I am also interested in the smaller box as I would like to replace our V+ in the bedroom as it keeps filling up with all the HD recordings I do on it!

When I joined the pre-reg list I wasnt a Virgin Media customer, but I am now. Will I be able to get a Tivo box for £149.99 plus a free install in April?

Thanks

I'm not sure on that, sorry.

Any word on whether we would lose our retention deals by signing up? Came up against that when I enquired about the 'free' upgrade to VIP30 from VIP20.

Is there a way I can be added to the mailing list at this stage? It seems to be an oversight that i'm not on there already as I did register. I emailed Virgin from the website helpform and they didnt know what I was talking about. Would seem unfair to miss out as I registered

Thanks

I hope the priority will be on getting installation free boxes to as many of us customers as possible in April?

Am not usually fussy on price merely careful, but unwilling to be happy about a fee AND an installation charge.

I honestly don't know for sure... you'll need to speak to Customer Care once the pre-sale launch is announced.

kingnothing83 05-04-2011 13:22

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

thanks DF - I guess it depends largely whether the pre-sale launch is redeemed with a unique code per customer or whether you simply have to go online to a specific landing page, or call a specific number. If its the later I should be fine

Stephen and I have answered that query earlier on in this thread :)

You just need to place your order in April (once the launch email is sent!) so if you can't get a date until May, then you will ok.

We should have enough boxes too

Great to see that VM do listen to our feedback. I'm sure they'll get alot more orders at this price!

I think anyone who is on a retention bundle will need to speak to Customer Care/Sales once launched, but I'm unaware of any restriction being placed on TiVo as such.

I have a quick question - to save me having to read through everything to get the answer ...

I've had my Tivo for about three or four weeks now having signed up as soon as I was aware of it (existing VM customer, S1 Tivo left connected to phone line for wishlists but still with Sky programme numbers) so does this make me a "VIP" or not? If so, what's the benefit? If not, should I give a damn??

BUT i didnt say i expect it for nowt NOW ... i was meaning further down the line when they have to give everyone a TiVo for nowt if they want to replace the V+ boxes

SO please stop jumping on my comments which you have done for weeks now , its bordering on harassment to have you always knock everything i write.

Two querys

I presume we will need to go to sales to upgrade to VIP50 from VIP20 and not via the online ordering, when ordering the TIVO and getting upgraded to VIP50 at the same time which I am thinking of doing

Will we be able to keep the V+ box like some of the people who have had TIVO installed said, and how much will it cost us to keep it

Yes you need to go through Customer Care/Sales for that

I'm not sure on the pricing around VIP and extra boxes... there may be other offers when you sign up regarding multi-room :)

some of you will get an email to book online and some will be directed to a special pre-sales orderline, this is because some of you have complicated billing arrangements! :)

Install is free in April, so you are getting that knocked off.

VIP's (50 & 100 only)are getting the TiVo monthly charge waived. It will appear on the bill, but you will get a bigger discount to cover.

now stop moaning!!!!! :D

There is also more deals around additonal outlets, but you'll need to speak to sales or see this in the ordering process online :)

Woohoo!! Thanks for that info :) Very happy camper here. Was ordering anyway (two to be honest), but this makes me even happier. Roll on the emails and details :)

Rjs37 says : It's a bit of a shame the £3 discount doesn't also apply to VIP 20/30. Don't really see why considering VIP 50 already get the Sky HD premium for free on a box.

I have VIP50 and pay for my Sky HD premium and never heard of being able to get it free on a box, charge is £7.00 per box. sorry if I`ve not done this right (first post)

The monthly fee on VIP 50 is waived, but you still have to pay for the box.

VIP50 is the best value package. It includes the Sky HD channels on one of your boxes. If you want to add the Sky HD channels to other boxes it will be £7 per box.

VIP50 is £100.55 with the Sky HD channels included, and for anyone with Tivo, the monthly cost of that is included as well. Very much a good deal if you are wanting all the services with Tivo as well.

One thing I am wondering though is, I have an extra V+ box as well as the VHD and Tivo box. I currently pay an extra £6.50 for this. If I was to upgrade to a Tivo box to replace the V+ would my extra charge go from £6.50 to £3 (for Tivo). If it will then I might replace my V+ to have 2 Tivos and the VHD.

You will still see the charge on your bill as this still has to be paid to Sky, but it will be refunded in the bundles discount for VIP50.

This, along with the premium HD channel fee being waived on one box makes VIP50 really good value at the moment imo.

I hope all this positive feedback is getting sent back to the powers that be & its not only the negatives that get fed back. :)

Well done VM
