We are doing the same and going for paint, the trouble is I cannot get my wife to decide the colour, still discussing it a year later!

Back to topic, so looks like Sky Arts HD coming so some progress at least on the channels front, I do watch Sky Arts now and again for some of the concerts shown so will be using the HD channels. It would be nice to see the S*x Pistols in HD for one of their concerts, as has been shown before on Sky Arts!

Good point. I often forget to look at what's on Sky arts and BBC 4 (which also have some really good music concerts/documentries on) and miss things, though both channels repeat things a lot.

My favourire bands and artists are going on to a whishlist as soon as I get tivo. Tivo's recommendations should also take care of similar artists I'm not that familiar with.

Having some of them in HD and 5.1 sound will be even better.

It will be handy for Sky Arts HD in particular, they clearly don't skimp on bit rates although I don't know if that will be relevant to the feed VM will use anyway.

The PQ and audio can be nothing short of stunning which is why I sought these channels so much.

And plenty of content is native too.

I haven't left VM ;)

If you mean do I regret getting Sky then no as without going into detail I was offered very favourable terms. And it's only a 12 month contract too.

Equally VM might be accomodating if I was to give them a call to return XL next year. I am sure it would take nothing more than a phonecall as all the kit will still be in place.

And of course I got a free HD satellite system to boot!

I don't know, it's worth noting that VM have never said Sky News HD is joining their line up.

When Sky Arts HD launches they have delivered all the promised Sky HD channels following the sale of VMtv.

Sky Arts 1 and 2 HD begin transmitting from April 26th. Good news for sky arts fans.

Now, let us hope that it isn't too long before History HD and ITV 2, 3, and 4 HD start transmitting on virgin. Sky should not have the monopoly. Ofcom should get on with it.

VM do carry all the Sky basic channels that were in place at the time they sold VMtv.

In respect of HD all they ever said was that Sky 1 HD and Sky Arts HD was joining the line up in addition to the premium sports and movie HD channels.

Sky do, you need the HD pack to watch it!

However I don't find myself watching anymore of Sky News in HD than I ever did which was never much anyway. Sports Reports and The Press Review is about it.

I cannot be doing with the swooshes and graphics if you know what I mean.

I don't know why they even felt the need to mention that.

I think talks broke down... it's probably why they never mention active talks in Press Releases anymore. :D

Eden HD is the better of the two anyway.

Agree, these should be the next priority targets for new HD channels and would be happy to see more SD new content channels as well, as HD (and preferred) is just a better way of seeing the same.

When Virgin sign the deal to sell their channels (Living and Bravo) to BSkyB - Sky Movies Classic HD, Sky News HD and Sky Sports News HD was not broadcasting.

They will not launch on Virgin unless BSkyB and Virgin sign an other deal.

Sky News HD was wasn't it?

It offically launched on 6 May which was Election Night, I thought the deal to sell VMtv was announced in June.

Nevertheless they have never said it was joining the lineup.

Mind you the negotiations must have took months to complete, we'll never know at what point they agreed to what HD channels VM would carry.

They have never mentioned it so perhaps the deal was agreed before it launched.

Who knows!

You might not care, but I do. I much prefer Sky News and it is my "default" channel. Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes, Afternoon Live with Kay Burley, Boulton and Co, Murnaghan etc.

I want the HD channel as it includes graphics suited to HD as well as side bar that includes more information (a sort of factoids of TV) about the story currently being aired, or things like the weather, stock exchange, etc.

Yes it was broadcaseting when the deal was announced. It's a channel I'd like to see added. It's a channel I often stick on to catch up on the news, and I really don't like having to watch SD :D

The PQ and audio can be nothing short of stunning which is why I sought these channels so much.

And plenty of content is native too.

I can relate to that! Just before Crimbo, when I had Sky I watched a Status Quo gig on one of the Sky Arts HD channels. The PQ and audio were awesome. Almost felt like you were actually there at times, especially from the sound point of view. I hope VM don't stitch us up by screwing up the transmissions of these channels to fit them onto their 'over-capacitated' network.

Sony launches tonight. It is an encrypted service although I don't know whether it is part of a subscription package or just scrambled for rights reasons.

Eitherway it isn't going to be available on Freesat at launch. All the CBS channels are though.

A channel being on Freeview or Freesat has no bearing on it's ability to be on VM Cable. :)

Yes channel 157 on Sky and I believe CBS Action HD and CBS Drama HD have been granted a license by OFCOM and should arrive on Satellite.

Oddly enough as Virginmedia does not carry SKY News HD somehow I do think we could watch it even if we wanted.

What is the point of a HD news channel when the money could be spent elsewhere both by SKY and Virginmedia, or do you really want to see the lurid details in HD, news is news regardless of format or channel.

News is still pointless in HD which is the point that I am making which has nothing to do with other potential channels as I do not look on news as entertainment and nor do I feel the need for me to see it any clearer in HD, news is news however you dress it up.

I agree it shouldn't be a major consideration for VM to purchase this channel , however I wouldn't say pointless after all eventually the majority of channels will be HD.

I'm not sure I understand where you're coming from. Being in HD only adds more clarity to the picture & doesn't change the actual content of the program. You'll get the same benefit from a HD news channel as you would from a Movie, Sports or Nature channel. Namely the same content but with more detail. :)

Sky News HD features the news sidebar which allows you to read into more detail on the story that cannot be used with SD broadcasts. Sky Sports News use it to great effect.

I sort of understand people who hold those views.

Personally I wonder why many shows are made and broadcast in HD. BBC HD is currently showing Eggheads, that seems totally pointless to me. 11 people sitting behind tables answering or asking questions. In HD.

Sky clearly feel News in HD is an important part of their overall offer, probably because no one else in the UK currently offers it.

It isn't vital for me though.
