Basically, this is a rip from the Channel 4 program The Royal Wedding Crashers. I saw this, and was slightly disturbed lol. I know it was only a joke etc, but the principal of it is, to the wrong people, it could be seen as something it aint...if you catch my drift. Is it me,or are people purposly trying to give extremists something to respond to? WHAT are your views on this?
yes it may be a joke ,but it is very misleading if shown out of context ...and we all know how sensitive some foriegners can be ;)

The lack of traffic noise is quite welcome as we live on what is normally something of a rat run. Almost as quiet as that other day.

Actually, it was great fun! There weren't that many kids. Everybody brought some food (and drink) so we had a great spread. Obviously, the weather was great. The buntings were out, we all had a couple of drinks (too many), people were running back to their houses getting more chilled Coronas, pitchers of Pimm's and the odd bottle of champagne. The few kids that were there did an ABBA impression, and we all had a great time.

It reminded me of Queen's day back in Holland (due tomorrow actually). A National day to celebrate your nation. I think we should have one annually here! :tu:

It's supposed to be April 23rd - St Georges Day, But we cannot celebrate it incase we cause offence in our own country.

Yes it would be a good idea to have a national day and i truly think it would help bring the nation closer together as a society instead of the every man for himself mentality we have now

Yeah, but that's for England. Surely it should be possible to have one for the UK? Just set one day in late spring aside for a massive street party. The next monarch could introduce one by just declaring one on an appropriate date...

So could the present monarch or the present government ,whoever has the authority ,May day is a pretty pointless bank holiday use that as UK day .If cameron is serious about bringing the country together and having a united society that looks after it's own then he should consider it ,even better he should just make it happen

To be honest we don't need anyones permission ,we could just start doing it if people had the inclination but we seem to be under the impression we can't do anything unless the government has to give us permission

Enjoyed watching the wedding on telly, enjoyed even more the fun day/party this afternoon funded by a grant for wedding parties which our 'local' autism support group managed to get. Mildly hilarious/embarrassing was my 2 year old son almost knocking the Mayor of Lisburn off his feet, oops!

Actually I don't want to have another holiday set up like this latest set up.Having another public holiday around the time of the very movable Easter public holidays is a waste of time and will completely make tatters of the Spring school term and then add in the inevitable May elections it messes school life up.

Lets annoy the French with Trafalgar day and have a lie in on a cold Autumn morning.

At the last Royal wedding. As for flags, your St George's flag was everywhere during the World Cup.

I have no idea who or what "authorised" people waving flags but it was a big middle finger up to all those who say we're not allowed to celebrate being British "in case it offends anyone".

Did everyone see William saluting the Cenotaph as they were leaving Westminster Abbey and heading back to the Palace? For the short journey back he was talking to Catherine, and waving to the crowd but still had the presence of mind to salut the Cenotaph (and other memorals, guards) as he went past. The guy has style.

Yes, also noted that whenever William saluted, Kate bowed her head slightly and stopped waving to the crowds. She's learning the ropes very quickly!

I have a feeling those two are going to change a lot of people's perceptions of the Royal Family for the better. William has always come across as a class act.

Can't say I blame them. I do agree that we have a right to protest.

However, yesterday, the Met Police were having to deal with potentially millions more people in London than they do normally, so their resources were probably stretched thin. If they had allowed any protest and it had "kicked off", a lot of people could have been injured (or killed).

Combine that with the fact that most of the world's news channels had at least one outside broadcast unit there, which would have attracted a lot of protest groups. That's without counting the nutters..

Totally agree. I think William and Harry have the warmth of their Mother in their characters too.

It is a shame the throne won't skip a generation in this case. I know it's not feasible, the whole system becomes a bit broken if we start using popularity to decide the next King/Queen but I would much prefer these two become King and Queen than Charles does. As mentioned William comes across very classy but he also comes across as less stuffy and with more humor (as shown by the 'just wed' car).

I agree ,whilst it would be nice to see a young King on the throne(charles is now 63 i think) i can't see the queen or charles ever abdicating and nor should they imo .Abdication of the throne is no small thing for a monarch and in all our history there has only ever been 1 instance of this happening voluntarily with Edward VIII

Re: The Royal Wedding 2011

Absolutely. The system works precisely because it's not open to tinkering for perceived short-term benefit. Charles has to become king, otherwise the question of succession simply becomes a very grand and expensive version of Big Brother with the royals as the housemates.

I remember seeing programme about the queen and was mentioned in that, that the queen has made her position very clear to Charles that she will never step aside and that the only way he will become king is when she dies.

I think Charles is a bit of a dinosaur. When he becomes king, whenever that may be, I think there will be a certain apathy towards his coronation.
