Good question - and for all I know it might - I think that current conditions may not allow for much run-off time? Camber and everything?

Charlie's official job title is 'Race Director', he start's the race's and make's decission's on if they should be stopped as in the race now, and if the safety car is used during and incident.

It's all become over-complicated. There is no way that a driver should be asked to drive a high-powered vehicle in those conditions.

Perhaps the race director should have a button the change them all to 4 cylinder for when it rains.. It would slow them down as speed is the main safety issue in the wet

They also tested windscreens which although broke did deflect the tyre away from the area occupied by a drivers helmet.

Remember that F1 cars used to have windscreens so it's nothing new

The only downside to a good race was the start. It now seems acceptable to run someone off the road at the start. Schumi started it but Seb seems the master of this tactic. Does not seem sporting to me, but then call be old fashioned if you like......

Yeah weird how seb got away with it yet Lewis was investigated for a lot less..

Anyway congrats to the new world champion, today named as the RB7 car.. ;)

It's been a season yet again dominated by the car and not the drivers, which is a shame.. Pity there's no high level single make racing or identical aerodynamics/engines racing as then you could classify yourself as a real world champion and not just someone who can drive the fastest car..

At last the stewards made the right decision. You could clearly see that Massa looked to his left and saw Lewis, and then turned in on him.

I'm not saying that Lewis shouldn't be blamed for any of the incidents with Massa, but most of them would normally be put down to a racing incident if it wasn't for the fact that they were between Lewis and Massa.

He is a racer, and to win races you have to take risks. The main difference between the drivers when you get to an F1 level isn't driving skill, it's bravery. And the braver you are the more risks you take. Senna was a perfect example of this.

As for Vettel. I don't think he is the best driver by a long way. He just has the best car by far. This is the unfortunate thing about F1, one team always seems to dominate. As a racing driver I should think that Vettel finds it boring when he doesn't have to race wheel to wheel with anyone. However, we have seen in the past that he can't handle pressure.

The answer to that is no as the colour of skin is not of relevance in my mind nor should it be in the minds of the stewards.

Yes l have to agree with a lot of what you are saying as when Vettel has been put under pressure in the past he is not as good as he thinks he is.

The worst thing is that he got repremanded for that joke. I know people who went to school with Lewis, and that is just his sense of humor...he likes Ali G

+1 but Webber has the same car, and with the same setup he's 1-2 10ths off Vettel. It would be nice to see Vettel along side Alonso, Hamilton, Schumy et-al.

Tounge in *cheek* (ref to what Hamilton said after Massa & Hamilton had a little love bump)

I've never rated Webber as a top driver either, but he has still won races in a Red Bull.

Rear tyre came of rim, and he rushed to get it back to the pits and damaged the rear of the car.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton returned to form to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as Sebastian Vettel retired.

"He just turned it on here and looked like the old Lewis again," said BBC F1 commentator Martin Brundle.
Lets hope this is a prelude to next season.

Pity we don't have access to the telemetry to see if the tyre lost pressure before the loss of control or it lost pressure as it went from track to kerb to run-off to grass... The resulting damage was to the hub and wishbone probably caused by the unbalanced flailing of the tyre carcass.

Either way though it was a good race which proved that the DSR zones are promoting overtaking (can't remember the exact figures from the same track from last year but I think completed over taking events was in single figures)

Formula 1 drivers want a rethink on the use of the controversial DRS overtaking aid for next season.

Quote:

Red Bull driver Mark Webber said: "There have been a few incidents where people have gone off because they were pushing the boundaries of using DRS.

Webber, writing in his BBC Sport column, said there had been at least three incidents this year caused by this issue.

He added that the drivers would like the regulations to be changed so the system can be used in practice and qualifying "just in the DRS zone and perhaps a couple of the key straights, and with a restriction on the point at which you can deploy it so you're not too close to the exit of a corner".

The comentators said that red bull and other teams run the tyres under the recommended pressures that are recommended, so this bit RB on the bum.

....and at the start the tyre temps and hence pressures are at their lowest..

They have been upsetting Pirelli for a long time by not following their recommendations. Remember when they had problems with tyre wear because they used too much camber.

Maybe the FIA should insist that teams stay within the guidelines in the interest of safety.

Goodbye F1 on the BBC, why should I watch only half the races?
Nobody would ever watch halp a football match.

I'm in two mind about F1, watch it or not. At the moment do something else is winning, as RB winning got very boring, plus some crap marshall desicions.

Yet not all the football matches are available on Sky.. Anyway that's a whole other thread of discussion ;)

Well it's the end of the season so as usual any discussion for next year (apart from the reduced BBC coverage which has it's own thead) should go in the 2012 pre-season thread

In the mean time well done to all the teams, drivers and organisers for giving us an exciting year even though the RB7 with vettel hanging on inside ran away with it.
