Yup indeed, but I seem to not be allowed to mention it :)

Same here :)

In my opinion there is a difference between Big Brother and the other programms you mention.
These are specifically written and have a storyline, have actors who are working hard to portray and make the show you are watching believable.

Big Brother has no storyline, no actors, and frankly if I wanted to watch people do nothing or stupid tasks all day then I may as well just look at people in real life, not on the TV.

Don't get me wrong, when this show first started it was interesting to see an experiment how people would get on together in a house but I really cant understand people who watch this 24/7 on TV, online, and on their phones.
The world is more exciting outside of the TV so press the off button and step outside.

Thanks, Dilly.

Well, we all felt attacked last year on the BB thread. I'm not going to open old wounds, so to speak, but it did feel like that. :(

I do second that and what should have been a good send of for the last bb thread and for the people who liked and posted on it, it went down like a stone and people just weren't interested anymore in posting on it.

You lot love the programme so enjoy if it returns but expect the occasional joke or picture to be included.

I thought that it had run its course especially with Channel 4 cancelling it which is unusual if they thought it possible to go on, maybe Channel Five will be successful with their revamp but at this time no one knows.

Re: Big Brother: Channel 5 close to deal

To be honest there is little wrong with the format. It only went wrong when C4 & The rights owners had differing ideas on what they wanted to do with the show. That and monet is what killed the format on C4. 12 months without rights in the UK is whats kicked the rights owners into gear to get here act sorted.

Sasha222 30-01-2011 16:38

Re: Big Brother: Channel 5 close to deal

I could be wrong but channel 4 didn't want go keep it and wanted I think to kill it of so no other company would touch it. A lot of the audience bycotted it also when the live feed on the red button was taken away. They only gave back the live feed last year when you paid for it online when they were getting a lot of flack over it. The ratings were very good last year for both CBB and the ordinary bb. Endemol wanted them to show the live feed for a long time and if they did show it they would have had a lot more people watching it

The live feed could have been on E4 or More 4 if they had been really bothered about keeping you guys happy and you could have all been quilt watchers.

Ya I know but they didn't think of the people who had been there from the start and just messed us around. I was quite happy to pay for it online but it wasn't fair on other people who probably didn't have the internet and just got half an hour in the afternoon and the feed on late when they were going to bed

I believe it was only Telewest viewers that had the red button live feed, for only one or two series

Re: Big Brother: Channel 5 close to deal

You could only get it the full live feede via the red button and then on the back of the red button you could get all the live feed on sky if you put in the frequency no but then channel 4 took away full live feed so you could only watch an hour or sometimes half an hour and then it came back on again at one or two in the morning when they were all gone to ged or going to bed

Suspect the figures only went up a fraction last year as it was the last series. Certainly 2010 was still lower than 2008 by over a million viewers a show.

Big Brother has a loyal fan base, you only have to look at Digital Spy's forum to see that. There is a whole forum of it's own over there.

Was'nt most of the "live" (or should I day "for stupid legal reasons" 15 min delay footage) mainly at night where most were fast asleep anyways?. Never understood why the "live" footage was bothered with when it was at such a late hour there was never anything worth tuning in for anyways.

It was live live for years and then one Friday night when Divina went lve to the house someone in the house said a swear word and it was before the watershed so they delayed it for the 15mins then after that.

Pretty sure that was never the case as during the first series there was always a 15 min delay and that was even on the "live" web feed (that was free at the time) that would have possably been exempt from such broadcasting regulations at the time.

So think they have always used the 15 min delay within a "live" feed for more political reasons than regulation reasons (easy to get aboyt 18 rated content (scenes or language) like PPV do with films these days). As there have always been ways to "adult" protect live feeds to satisfy regulators had that ever been needed on the net?.

Sasha222 30-01-2011 20:48

Re: Big Brother: Channel 5 close to deal

Lol was only the web feed that got me into the series. Recall thinking that will never work as those web cams look so crap pic quality wise it will never fit a tv broadcast quality program. How little did I know at the time lol.

Well as long as Channel 5 manage to show BB and keep up the schedule for it's other shows I can't see any problem. My biggest complaint with it on 4 was the other satellite shows around it discussing it endlessly. At long as it's not on all the subsidiary 5 channels and those of us who watch 5 normally don't get it stuffed down our throats I shan't mind.

4 went a bit over the top with it but if 5 use some common sense I'm sure things will be OK.Even with the change to 5 I can't see it regaining it's former popularity

From what I can remember channel 4 only showed the highlights for an hour and the live feed came on very late. Later than it did on e4. So it was only an hour that it was on for. E4 carried the spin of shows

I dont watch anything on Channel 5 and dont even know what CSI is about. Coouldn't even tell you what time It's on at. Channel 5 are still in talks with Endemol and nothing has been finalised yet so at this stage nobody knows what time it will be shown at so bit early to get excited even for the bb fans.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they do come away from the table with a deal. So Its all up in the air still at the moment

CSI is also on Living. Its a massive show and has 2 spin offs, CSI, Miami and CSI New York. CSI Stands for Crime Scene Investigation btw. Can't believe you have no idea what its about.

If they do manage to get BB, I hope Ch5 take it back to its roots and make it simpler without all the extra shows.

Videos went out 50 years ago :P and i only have/need a TV in the bedroom, like i said i don't wish to record it i wish to watch it prime time mid evening when it is always on, this was my moan about BB as BB takes over the telly like no other programme does, when BB is on it may take over the channel every night for 3 months and this is the reason why people who hate BB moan so much and it can't be compared to other TV programmes in the same way. :)

Actually these days I cheat and watch CSI using Demand 5 player on my PC. Much better because the ads are minimal and thus the shows are quicker and shorter. Same with the other 5 shows like Justified and anything else on 5 like documentaries.

Re: Big Brother: Channel 5 close to deal

I bought my videos 5yrs ago so exradration really and are going very strong still. Big brother has only been on Channel 4 for an hour an night and also it was on for an hour live feed or less on e4 at lunch time and came back on again late at night so it didn't take over any programmes. It was on an hour and a half on a Friday night for the eviction and then a programme was on while the votes were counted and came back on for a half an hour to do the interview so how is that taken over.

I could say that about football and soccer as it sometimes takes over programmes I like but I couldn't be bothered complaining as other people like it. I can also say I find it crazy grown men/women running up and down a field trying to get a ball into a net and hugging each other when it does but hey different things for different folks

I accept people are different and like different things and give them the respect for it

But football isn't on every night for 3 months, so it is different. :)

If BB is only on for 1hr each evening then maybe i can survive but i always thought it was on for 2-3hrs at a time.

You could always tape it and watch it in your bedroom if you wanted to.

You actually said you don't know what it's about. It's a great show.

Soccer is what the Americans call football. It's totally the same thing. You must be thinking of American football ;)

But football and soccer are the same thing. Who mentioned Gaelic football?

It's called football for a reason, you make contact with the ball with your foot not hand.

The UK = Football
The USA = Soccer

They are the same though.

I've never heard of that before i had to Google it, but obviously the majority would be talking about English football on this site or in England. :D

I guess you should have called it by its full name, and most people in England don't use the word soccer to describe football. ;)

I knew what Gaelic football is, but generally 100% of the UK calls it football. Only the Americans would call it soccer.

Completely different in my opinion, the World Cup is only on for about 4 weeks every 4 years and not every night on the same channel for 3 months, so you can't compare it. :)

Anyway if BB only affects 1hr each evening on the same channel then i guess it is bearable!

A celebrity edition could be on air within months, while a series with everyday people is set to be broadcast on the summer of 2012.

Former host Davina McCall has backed the plans and tipped 'Big Brother's Little Brother' co-host Emma Willis to take over the presenting duties.

SOCCER

Is actually the English derived name for the sport not American.

It is derived from the term Association Football.

Back in the day you has Association Football and Rugby Football (or depending when Rugby Union Football and Rugby League Football).

Soccer or Rugger

So in the UK, and the rest of the world, the terms Soccer and Football are equally valid for our National Sport.

Always a laugh about how the English get upset at others using the word football - it's not your word! They always claim no-one in the UK uses the word soccer whereas a quick glance at the TV listings will prove them wrong.

Go to America - Football will be NFL
Go to Australia - Football will be Aussie Rules
Go to Canada - Football will be CFL
Go to Ireland - Football will be Gaelic
Go to New Zealand - Football will be Rugby Union

;)

Ya I doubt if the papers would have been able to print about it coming back if it wasn't going to happen. They have to advertise it so people get to know about it for the summer.
