Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I got an email about offering free tickets which directed me to this page...
http://movieoffers.virginmedia.com/previews/ .....but unless I'm being thick I can't see how or where I enter my VM account details? |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
It's available from tomorrow
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
And its crashed.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Tried to order mine at exactly 9:58 and the website crashed =[
It did say I have been confirmed as a customer, but then said unable to connect to database server? |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I got as far as putting my details in,have to go out in 10 mins hope i dont miss out.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Absolute joke of a roll out from virgin again. Site can't cope and keeps crashing.
When will companies learn that if they give away free stuff then demand will be great. **** me off sometimes. What a waste of my life. |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
How is it a joke. Exactly the same as Ticketmaster crashing when tickets for popular events go on sale
No matter how much bandwidth you dedicate to it, at somepoint it may run out. |

Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Its not Virgins fault.
It looks like www.showfilmfirst.com is actually down and thats the site that VM links into. |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Anybody managed to get any yet?
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I got to the 3rd url, ticket_uncheckout.php but it's just loading and loading.
Chose my cinema, and clicked order, then database error again -_- |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Yep the showfilmfirst website is down. Still no less annoying though and I can't believe companies cannot plan for this with proper infrastructure and bandwidth or alteast roll things out phased. Whichever involves the least time and hassle and lottery.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I really don't think it was this that broke the showfilmfirst site. Pure coincidence I think.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Its a legal DOS attack!!!
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers

|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers

XXXXXX = Ticket number, which you should see when you hit checkout for the first time. Although now this page keeps going down too =[ |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Managed to get to the select cinema screen and once again nothing with in 30 miles of where I live.

Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Unable to connect to database server is all I get!!!
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Close to giving up now. I don't have the time for it.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
have not been able to connect at all. After putting in myaccount details and using firefox 4 I either get a fatal error server message, a timeout, or unable to connect message. When I switched to IE 9 that was even worse, I just enter my account details and click on the continue button and nothing happens at all. Seems like the button does not work in IE9. Anyone getting the same problems, or is it just me?
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
+1, Giving up. It's true nothing in life is truely free, i'll have carpal tunnel by the time i'd complete my order.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Yeah basically it's a lottery. Same as buying tickets for popular gigs. Pathetic really. The people that end up getting them are either lucky or have a day they can dedicate to keep trying.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Yes im nearly sacking myself for internet abuse at work here cant get past account details but the website says beware now there in high demad so thats ok lol.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
They should have just limited the connections to the site to match that of available tickets so it's truely first come first serve.

Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I eventually got in to the site after 50 minutes of trying to fond out that the nearest showing was 100 miles away!. No showings at all in the south west.
A total waste of time. Would it not be better to list the locations available the day before so we could avoid all this hassle and avoid blocking access to the ticket site for others. |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I saw the locations once and off the top of my head remembering them they included:
Brighton Liverpool Manchester Leeds Glasgow London Newcastle I saw this page once and then it crashed. That was after 45 minutes of refreshing. I'm out. |

Theres nothing to learn, nothing they do would make any difference, if someone is giving away 100 of something and 50,000 people want it then it doesn't matter how good your site is, the thing their giving away is going to go to the first few When we people learn to use their brains and think before they start blaming people. Oh wait, they have to blame someone so they feel better about themselves |

Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
After hitting refresh on and off for the last couple of hours, I've just made it through and have got two tickets for Mansfield. Shame there wasn't anything in Nottingham as Mansfield is a bit of a trek up north.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Both Manchester and Liverpool are full. Some still available in Stoke but might as well pay for the cinema as I'd have to pay for the train
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Now after entering my details and getting this:
Thank you, you have been confirmed as a customer! I now get invalid ticket code on the next screen where i choose which cinema i want. |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
What a farse. Just finally got to the checkout screen and the locations are all sold out apart from one, Norwich! lol
How are they all sold out (unavailable I should say) if nobody has been able to get on there? |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I doubt very much it was that no-one could get on it, there probably were some successful orders before it went down and then since it's come back up
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
yep said it had tickets ealier for near me never got any futher and all tickets gone it says now firtst time ive tried to get any and probably the last .
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Chances are as in previous films the cinema will be half empty, Free tickets = cant be arsed or got tickets cos they were free and no one wants to go .....
About time virgin blocked those that get tickets and have no intetntion of turning up repeatedly... There is a process for returning unwanted tickets but apparently its rarely ever used. !!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Show Film First have posted on their facebook page that they were hit by a DoS attack this morning and that is why the site went down.
Co-incidently around the same time the VM tickets were meant to go live. Hmmmmm. |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Tried again today as soon as got home from work only to get the message "Sorry, no tickets left".
Great! |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
They should really setup a second preview showing for the problems and seemingly instant unavailability of tickets.
Strange that the Virgin Media 'confirmation' page is not Https, it would be nice to enter my email and post code securely. |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I received the same message and therefore was unable to get any tickets so this is the first showing where the has been problems this year.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I managed to get as far as entering my details, then was redirected to the FilmFirst site, but by then it had crashed. When things were fixed later I couldnt re-enter my details as the Virgin site thought I had aready got tickets, the link that wouldnt work earlier just told me to register with Virgin!
What a total joke! |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
I think tickets may not have existed as the site went down almost straight away. As for the excuse of denial of service this is very poor in this day and age most basic home user broadband router firewalls can deal with this problem and cost less than £100. So Show Film First would have much better equipment that would ignore this traffic and beside the error message that came back was not a generic browser message but a SQL web command error so points to website or database not coping. I also would how many tickets have been allocated and not sent due to the problem. Because I had got through to final screen and put in who was attending and then it failed at point only not being able to get back on till all tickets had gone. I don't know if I have tickets or not as they have not been emailed so I assume not, which peeves me to an extent. SO I think Virgin media should put its hands and say sorry we got it badly wrong and offer an additional showings because I don't believe anyone got any tickets as this happen to me at 10.02 and by the time they sorted the problem there were no tickets left. mmm!!!
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Its all ok now there looking to improve it for next month !!! im so excited I cant wait .... those 3 hours the other day are a distant memory i cant even remember the name of the film anymore.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Another month....Another film !
All seemed to be ok ! Got tickets |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Looks like they've changed the way customers apply for tickets. The way its written I think it going to be more like a random draw for those that register. I suppose it will make it a fairer system.
|
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Yup. It's based on the feedback Virgin have got from previous films offers, as if you aren't at a PC at 10am when the application goes live you have little chance at being successful.

Well here we are 2 days after Registration closed and still it seems no one has received the emails..... Still remains to see if this new random draw will increase the number of people who actually turn up on the night .... The last four films I have been to have all had at least 33% empty seats and indeed the last one (Super 8) was probably nearer 80% empty ! |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Well the emails have been sent out today .......
YES;) got the tickets ! |
Re: Virgin Media - free cinema tickets for customers
Just checked mail, 2 tickets for Leeds!
